Chapter 121 Happy
As Bella got older, Sterling's feelings for her started to change.
Bella's smiles, her tears, and every little thing she did seemed to plant themselves in his heart.
Sterling couldn't pinpoint when he began to notice Bella more, wanting her to cry for him, to smile for him. He craved everything about her—her body, her heart, her whole being.
Maybe his methods were wrong, but as long as he could keep Bella by his side, Sterling didn't care what he had to do.
Maybe they were right; he was indeed restraining Bella. He wanted to keep her close, to use a child to keep Bella by his side.
Sterling never thought his methods were shameless; he only knew that Bella couldn't leave Windsor Villa, nor could she leave him.
Actually, when Bella said she wanted to go to work just now, he really wanted to tell her that her only job now was to take care of her health and then give him a child.
Seeing Bella's hopeful eyes, the words were on the tip of his tongue, but he couldn't bring himself to say them.
No matter what, he had to keep Bella by his side.
When Bella woke up in the morning, she noticed her hair was a bit messy. She had been resting at home for a while, and her hair had grown long and unmanageable.
Bella struggled in front of the mirror for a while, and just as she was about to cut it with scissors, a slender hand suddenly reached out from behind.
"Give me the comb," Sterling said.
In a daze, Bella handed the comb over.
Then Sterling gently combed her hair, and this scene made Bella feel like she was back in her childhood.
Back then, Sterling would occasionally help her with her hair. When Bella was eight, she always had trouble with her hair. She wasn't familiar with the maids and didn't want to bother them, so she would hide in the bathroom, struggling with how to comb and tie her hair.
Then, just like today, Sterling would suddenly appear, take the comb from her hand, and tie her hair.
Bella felt like she was back in her childhood. Sterling saw Bella's dazed eyes in the mirror, not knowing what she was thinking.
After combing her hair, Sterling held Bella's shoulders and looked at her in the mirror, asking, "What are you thinking about?"
Bella's ears suddenly felt a bit hot. "Nothing."
Actually, Bella was just looking at Sterling. If nothing had happened between them, they might be living harmoniously now. Maybe even with a bit of warmth, they could coexist peacefully.
Bella pushed Sterling away and went downstairs for breakfast, seeing that Zoey had prepared a very rich breakfast this morning.
As soon as Zoey saw Bella, she smiled and said, "Mrs. Windsor, why are you dressed so beautifully today? Is there something happy happening?"
Bella had cleared things up with Sterling last night, so she wasn't as depressed anymore. She could go out to work, so she was in a good mood.
Bella immediately replied to Zoey, "I'm going to work today. Of course, I'm happy!"
Zoey could sense Bella's joy and said, "That's a good thing. I'll bring you lunch at noon."
Bella said, "No need."
Sterling walked up behind Bella and said, "Let Zoey bring you lunch at noon. Otherwise, you'll end up eating junk food at the office."
Bella pouted but didn't say anything and sat at the table. She was really happy today. Despite the drama with Mira yesterday, Bella felt there was no need to let people and things that didn't matter to her affect her anymore.
Thinking this way, her mood had significantly lifted since last night.
Who cares about Mira? Or Debra? They were all irrelevant. Why should Bella let irrelevant people affect her mood?
"Are you that happy? You're grinning from ear to ear," Sterling asked, placing a piece of egg on her plate.
Bella finally warmed up to him and smiled, "Of course, I'm going to work today. I've been stuck at home for so long. If it were you, wouldn't you be happy? Wouldn't you be thrilled to be released from prison?"
Sterling sneered, "Prison? You think home is like a prison?"
Bella smiled, stuck out her tongue, and didn't say anything. Seeing her so happy, Sterling's mood seemed to lighten too.
Sterling finally felt relieved and kept reminding Bella, "If you feel uncomfortable at work, you must tell me or Micah immediately. Don't push yourself, understand? If you feel unwell, come back right away."
Bella thought Sterling was being too nagging, but hearing his concerned words, she suddenly felt a bit uneasy.
Bella didn't know if Sterling's concern for her now had any hidden agenda.
Bella thought for a moment and said, "I know, why are you so nagging?"
Bella suppressed the flutter in her heart. Maybe Sterling really cared about her?
Thinking this, Bella didn't dwell on it anymore. It was hard enough to get Sterling to agree to separate from Debra and not see her anymore; Bella had no more demands.
Perhaps it mattered to her. Any other woman might have been acceptable, but not Debra, for she was Mira's daughter, the one responsible for her child's death.
Seeing that Bella didn't want to talk anymore, Sterling didn't insist. But when he dropped her off at the company, he reminded her again, "If you feel unwell at work, come back immediately."
Bella wanted to roll her eyes at him but held back and said, "I know. Can you talk to me in a different tone? Don't talk to me like you're my dad. I'm not your daughter."
Sterling, sitting in the back seat, suddenly smiled, lazily staring at Bella and asking, "A different tone? What kind?"
Sterling suddenly leaned in and kissed her on the lips. "Like this?"
Bella's face flushed instantly, and she found herself speechless. All she could do was lower her head in silence.
Sterling suddenly pinched her cheek, smiling as he said, "This is cuter."
Bella suddenly felt a bit shy. With Sterling's gaze fixed upon her, it seemed as though his eyes were entirely captivated by her.
There was a spark between them. She could only hurriedly say, "I'm going to work," then pushed the door open and ran out.
Sterling called after her, "Don't run so fast."
Bella slowed her pace, lifted her head, and walked into the company.
