Chapter 127 He Will Love You
Bella was totally thrown off by Nia's sudden change of topic. Her face turned red, and she snapped, "What are you even talking about?"
Nia just shrugged. "You two are married now. Most people go from love to family vibes, but you guys are doing it backwards. Family vibes can totally turn into love."
Bella was at a loss for words.
Nia kept going, "Next time you argue, try saying 'I love you' instead of 'I don't love you.' It might change things up."
Bella's head was spinning from Nia's words, and she just stared at her, confused.
"Nia, don't you like Sterling? You used to flaunt it in front of me and act all superior. Why are you trying to set us up now? Did you stop liking him that fast?" Bella asked, frowning.
Nia shrugged again. "If I hadn't heard what Sterling said today, I might still be competing with you. But today, I realized he doesn't like me; he likes you. If he had even a little interest in me, I'd fight for it. But now, I feel like I can't compete with you."
Bella stayed quiet. Nia suddenly smiled, like she had let something go. "Bella, only you could push a gentle guy like Sterling to the edge. You really know how to push his buttons."
Bella looked at Nia, even more puzzled. As they talked, Bella found herself starting to like Nia a bit. Nia loved and hated with equal intensity, always ready to embrace or let go without hesitation.
Bella suddenly felt that Nia was much better than herself. Nia leaned on Bella's shoulder and said, "Bella, do you know? I was really ugly when I was a kid. I went to kindergarten and elementary school with Sterling. Back then, I was the ugly duckling, and he was the prince. Do you know the difference?"
"He's the guy I've loved since I was a kid. But today, seeing him driven crazy by you, I realized that I've admired him for so many years, always thinking he deserves the best love in the world. Can you please stop saying those things to him? I can't stand seeing him unloved and unappreciated."
Bella turned to Nia and saw tears in her eyes. Then Nia looked up at the starry sky, her eyes sparkling like stars.
That night, when Bella got back to her room, she found that Sterling hadn't come back yet. She thought about Nia's words. She wanted to find Sterling, but he had already gone out before she could. Not knowing what he was up to so late, she decided she didn't care anymore.
Around one in the morning, Bella was woken up by the phone ringing. She answered it groggily, and Colin's voice came through.
Bella instantly woke up. "Colin, why are you calling me so late?"
Reaching out to the empty spot beside her, Bella realized Sterling still hadn't come back.
Colin said, "Bella, Sterling is drunk. Can you come pick him up? Everyone here is pretty much out of it, and I don't think anyone can carry him back."
Bella snorted, "Just call him a cab to send him back. Why are you calling me?"
Colin patiently said, "Sterling is at my place, and he doesn't want to leave."
Bella said, "If he doesn't want to leave, let him crash at your place for the night. Don't bother me."
Colin looked at the hung-up phone and shook his head with a smile. Sterling's love life was even more tangled than he thought.
Just as Bella hung up, Nia burst into her room and said, "Bella, why are you still sleeping? It's so late, and Sterling hasn't come back yet. Aren't you worried? Don't you want to find him?"
Bella sighed, "Why are you acting like Zoey? If you're so worried, go find him yourself."
Bella was still fuming. Couldn't she just have one peaceful night?
Nia said, "Fine, Bella. If I go find him and he's drunk, I'll take him to a hotel and sleep with him. Let's see if you get anxious then."
Bella didn't respond and went back to sleep. Frustrated, Nia gave her a light punch and hurried out in her slippers.
Bella didn't know if Nia went to find Sterling, but he didn't come back that night.
The next day, as soon as Bella got to the office, Micah called her to his office. When she reached the door, she heard Micah's angry voice from inside. "What do you mean? You're treating me like chopped liver. You gave me the bad projects, said they were hard to do, and wanted to give up. Now that I've completed them, you hand the results to him? Have I been working for him all this time? This level of favoritism is unbelievable. Do you treat my brother like he's your only child while I'm just an outsider? Forget it, do whatever you want."
Bella waited until Micah hung up the phone before knocking. Micah had calmed down and said, "Come in."
Bella thought Micah had something urgent for her, but he just handed her a document and said, "Take this to Sterling for his signature. You don't need to work overtime because of your health. Anyway, I might not be the boss here for much longer, so I need to make as much as I can while I still can."
Bella didn't say anything, not understanding their issues. She just took the document and headed to the Windsor Group.
The receptionists at the Windsor Group all knew Bella, so she didn't need to check in and went straight to the 46th floor.
Bella saw Sterling's new secretary, Sable, who stopped her at the door and said, "Please wait a moment. I'll inform Mr. Windsor."
Bella didn't say anything and waited quietly outside, thinking that Sable was quite responsible.
Soon, Sable returned and said, "Please come in."
Sable remained expressionless the whole time, which Bella found a bit strange but didn't dwell on.
When Bella entered, Sterling was busy writing. They had a big fight last night, so he hadn't come back. She didn't know if he had stayed at Colin's place.
But Bella didn't want to argue with Sterling first thing in the morning. She steadied herself and handed the document to him. "Mr. Windsor, Mr. Hughes asked you to review this document. Please sign it if everything is in order."
Sterling didn't say anything. He glanced at the document, signed it, and handed it back to Bella, saying in a businesslike tone, "You can go now."
