Chapter 32 I Shouldn't Have Come
Bella wasn't about to let Debra get the upper hand. She grabbed the cup on the table and splashed all the water right in Debra's face.
"How dare you!" Debra shrieked, lunging at Bella.
Bella still had the cup in her hand, a solid stainless steel mug. Debra stopped in her tracks; she didn't want to get clocked by that thing.
Debra might've lost the physical battle, but she wasn't about to lose the war of words.
"Remember what went down with Mr. Savoy three years ago? You're just a tramp with a messy love life," Debra spat, aiming to hit Bella where it hurt.
Bella struck a pose, looking down at Debra with pure disdain. "But Sterling still put a ring on it, and you, dear sister, are just his side piece."
Debra's face turned red with rage. "I'm not your sister! That's my mom, not yours!"
Bella shot back with a smirk, "You're just a mistress!"
Debra hated hearing that, even though it was true. Bella's words were driving her nuts.
"I'm gonna rip your mouth off!" Debra charged at Bella, but a voice cut through the tension.
"What the hell are you two doing?" Micah's voice echoed through the office, and everyone quickly pretended to be busy.
Micah walked over and saw Bella and Debra going at it. He wanted to turn around and bolt.
Micah didn't want to get mixed up in Sterling's family drama. It was like handling a live grenade.
But Debra saw a lifeline and grabbed Micah's hand, pointing at Bella. "Micah, she's bullying me."
Micah rolled his eyes. Bella had a red bump on her forehead, probably from getting hit, while Debra's face was soaked. Looked like a fair fight to him.
'Why did I even come here?' Micah thought, looking at Bella for help.
Bella caught Micah's look and sneered at Debra. "Did you tell Sterling you were coming here? You know what he hates the most."
Debra's face fell.
Micah jumped on Bella's cue. "Yeah, Debra, did Sterling send you? If not, you better leave. I can't save you if he flips out."
"Fine, I'm leaving." Debra shot Bella a death glare before storming off.
Once Debra was gone, Micah let out a sigh of relief.
"Alright, show's over, back to work," Micah said, heading back to his office.
In his office, Micah called Sterling to fill him in. After a pause, Sterling gave him new orders.
Micah hung up, looking annoyed.
"Your wife is picking up her best friend from the airport, and you can't call an Uber? Why do I have to play chauffeur? I'm the boss, for crying out loud!" Micah grumbled to his phone.
Micah knew he couldn't change a thing, so he called Bella over and passed on Sterling's orders.
Bella had no choice but to go along with it. She wanted to catch up with Anna, but with Micah around, their chat would be limited.
Micah drove Bella to the airport. Soon enough, Bella spotted her best friend Anna, who she hadn't seen in three years.
"Bella, I've missed you like crazy," Anna said, pulling Bella into a tight hug.
Bella glanced around but didn't see Anna's fiancé, Caleb.
"Where's Caleb?" Bella asked, confused. Caleb had left with Anna back then.
Anna shook her head. "He's got some stuff to handle abroad. He'll be back tomorrow."
"Got it. Have you eaten yet? Let's go grab a bite at our usual spot," Bella said, holding Anna's hand and telling Micah to head to their favorite restaurant.
On the way, Bella introduced Micah to Anna.
"Don't mind me, you two chat away. I'm just the chauffeur," Micah joked with a shrug.
Both Bella and Anna knew Micah was there to keep an eye on Bella and make sure she didn't talk to Anna about James.
Anna shared her adventures abroad, and Bella talked about her new job.
When the topic of Anna's wedding came up, a shadow crossed her face. "I feel like there's a gap between Caleb and me. He doesn't seem too pumped about getting married. Maybe I was wrong from the start."
Bella wanted to comfort her, but her own love life was a mess too.
Their conversation got cut short when Anna got a phone call.
After dropping Anna off, Micah drove Bella back to Windsor Villa.
As soon as Bella walked in, she saw Sterling sitting in a chair.
"Debra showed up at your office today. I heard she even hit you?" Sterling asked.
Bella quickly figured out Micah had told him.
"It was just a minor spat. I handled it," Bella said and headed straight upstairs.
Sterling frowned. Bella didn't seem interested in complaining to him. Was she disappointed in him, or just playing tough?
The next day, Bella met up with Anna again, this time for a shopping spree.
Last time, with Micah around, Anna hadn't fully opened up about her situation with Caleb.
"I just feel like Caleb only wants to come back to the country. He never really planned our future together. I feel like he's just using my status as a stepping stone to meet people and gain resources through my dad. But it seems like his dreams don't include me," Anna said, looking really down.
Bella wanted to comfort her, but Anna spoke first.
"Enough about me. How are things with you and Sterling? Aren't you two planning to have kids?" Anna's question left Bella speechless. It seemed like there was no real affection between her and Sterling.
Then Anna suddenly flashed a mischievous grin and leaned in to whisper, "Sterling was a heartthrob for a lot of girls back then. I've always wondered about his... performance."
