Chapter 20 Attack
Bella really didn't wanna see Sterling; she'd had enough of him. But Anna? She had no clue and dragged Bella downstairs anyway.
"Come on, it's not every day a hottie shows up at school. We gotta check him out! Why are you always buried in books?" Anna grumbled, clearly annoyed with Bella's attitude.
Right then, Oliver and the school bigwigs were escorting Sterling through the gate.
"Look at him! Total heartthrob! And don't forget, Mr. Windsor covered your medical bills. You owe him a thank you," Anna insisted, pulling Bella into the crowd.
Despite the dirty looks from the other girls, Anna managed to yank Bella to the front row.
Bella kept her head down, avoiding Sterling's gaze, but Anna wasn't having it.
"Mr. Windsor! Over here! Look this way! This is the girl you saved!" Anna hollered, pointing at Bella.
Bella covered her face, realizing Anna was a total social nut.
Sure enough, Sterling's attention shifted, and he walked over to Bella.
"You look way better. Been eating and sleeping well, huh?" Sterling teased.
Bella awkwardly nodded.
Anna, hugging Bella's shoulders, chimed in, "Bella's a bit shy, so I'll thank you for her."
Sterling nodded at Anna but kept his eyes on Bella, clearly wanting to hear it from herself.
Bella sighed, lifted her head, and met Sterling's gaze.
Just as she was about to say thank you, she noticed someone rushing at Sterling with a knife.
"Watch out!" Bella yelled, shoving Sterling aside.
The knife, meant for Sterling's back, ended up stabbing Bella's arm, instantly soaking her sleeve in blood.
Sterling reacted fast, kicking the attacker away.
Chaos erupted, and Oliver shouted for security. But Sterling's bodyguards were quicker, pinning the attacker to the ground.
"Everyone, back off!" Sterling roared, making the crowd instinctively step back.
He scooped Bella up and sprinted to his car.
Blood kept pouring from Bella's arm, and her face turned pale.
Before passing out, Bella looked at Sterling's worried face.
'Was he this freaked out last time I was out cold? But why? Aren't I just a pawn in his revenge game?' Bella's thoughts faded, but something inside her seemed to soften.
Outside the ER, Sterling sat with a cold expression, Oliver standing next to him.
Oliver was fuming. He hadn't expected Sterling to face two incidents in just two visits, and Bella got hurt both times.
Oliver knew if he didn't handle this right, his job as principal was on the line.
"Mr. Windsor, trust me, I've got people looking into the attacker's identity. We'll get you a satisfactory answer," Oliver said seriously, knowing it was the least he could do.
