Chapter 190 A Chance Encounter

Bella thought for a moment and realized now wasn't the time to dwell on this.

This incident was clearly a conspiracy orchestrated by someone.

She remembered that the first time she was placed on the bed that night, she saw James. It was obvious that Debra was behind it.

Later, she was knocked out and placed on Micah's bed. This second incident was definitely the work of the Hughes family.

No matter what, she couldn't let herself be taken advantage of.

Under Sterling's protection, she had once clung to him like a pet. But after everything she had been through with Sterling, she was no longer a little lamb who let others bully her.

So Bella decided to find Micah the next day. She had to get to the bottom of this.

Sterling still cared about her lying next to Micah, but she couldn't do anything about it. It was a fact she couldn't change, but she had a clear conscience, so she could face Micah openly.

Bella spent the whole night building up her mental fortitude, but she still didn't sleep well, waking up several times. Each time she woke up, she felt an overwhelming fear of emptiness.

Even though the room wasn't big and looked cozy, she felt as if she was the only person left in the world.

Without Sterling by her side, she seemed to suffer from insomnia and unease. It was a terrifying realization.

Finally, morning came, and she was wide awake. At 6 o'clock, the alarm went off. Not long after, Anna woke up too.

Bella and Anna washed up and went downstairs.

Seeing Bella's tired face, Anna asked, "Didn't sleep well last night? Is something wrong with the bed? Tell me, and I'll fix it for you."

Bella forced a smile and said, "No, I just had insomnia last night. Anyway, today I'm going to find Micah. I need to get to the bottom of this. I can't let them bully me for nothing."

Anna said, "That's right, you can't let them bully you. Don't think too much about it. Sterling is just stubborn; he'll regret it one day. Come on, I'll take you to a great breakfast place."

Anna's warm and sunny personality lifted Bella's spirits, and they walked arm in arm into a breakfast place.

But there was a long line at the entrance.

Anna enthusiastically recommended, "I'm telling you, their breakfast is amazing. You have to try it."

Bella smiled and, looking at the long line, said helplessly, "But with such a long line, how long will we have to wait?"

Bella and Anna stood at the end of the line, looking frustrated.

Suddenly, Bella noticed a familiar face in the crowd. She looked closely and realized it was Caleb.

Anna noticed too, and Bella glanced at Anna's face, which had lost all its cheerfulness.

"Maybe we should go somewhere else," Bella suggested cautiously.

Anna forced a smile and said, "No, we're eating here."

Hearing the stubbornness in Anna's voice, Bella sighed. Anna always got upset when she saw Caleb.

At that moment, Caleb seemed to sense something and turned around, spotting Bella and Anna. He didn't say anything and turned back.

Not long after, Caleb came over with two breakfasts and said calmly, "These are for you."

Anna's expression changed. "We don't need them. We can buy our own."

Caleb, acting like an old friend, said, "Who knows how long this line will take? Don't be stubborn. Here, you love this, don't you?"

Anna didn't take it, so Caleb kept holding out the breakfasts.

Finally, Bella couldn't stand it and took the breakfasts from Caleb, saying, "Thank you."

Caleb looked at Anna and said helplessly, "It's just breakfast. No need to be so stubborn."

This made Anna furious. She replied coldly, "Buying breakfast for your girlfriend and not forgetting your ex? You're quite the saint."

Caleb didn't get angry; he even smiled. "Anna, there's no need to talk to me like that. We..."

Anna cut him off immediately. "Stop. There's no 'we,' only you and me."

With that, Anna dragged Bella away, not noticing Caleb's gaze growing darker behind her.

As Anna stormed off with Bella, Bella asked worriedly, "Anna, do you still have feelings for Caleb?"

Anna stopped and, with a disdainful look, retorted, "Feelings for him? He's just an ex I don't want to talk about."

Bella couldn't tell if Anna's words were entirely truthful. She sighed and handed Anna the breakfast.

"Yeah, an ex who keeps showing up. But he seems to be doing well now, not the poor guy he used to be."

Anna remembered Caleb's wealthy appearance. She scoffed, "What does that have to do with me? He wanted to climb the social ladder. When my family went bankrupt, he dumped me. Now he's probably found a richer woman. He's showing off to satisfy his vanity."

Bella quickly said, "Don't judge him like that. But it's true, his sudden wealth and presence are annoying. Avoid him if you can."

Anna thought to herself, 'Why should I avoid him? I did nothing wrong.'

After a few more words, Bella and Anna went to work. Bella headed straight to Micah's office.

Micah, having recovered a bit, stood up as soon as he saw Bella.

Bella didn't care about any awkwardness between them because she knew there was nothing between them.

Seeing Bella's straightforward gaze, Micah felt a bit guilty. But he hid his emotions and smiled, "Bella? Why are you at work? Why not rest a few more days?"

Bella got straight to the point, "Was the last incident a conspiracy by the Hughes family?"

Micah knew Bella would ask this. He answered seriously, "Yes, it was the Hughes family. Sterling has been dealing with them these past few days. His warnings and punishments should keep them in line for a while."
