Chapter 56 The Wife's Coquettishness

Bella didn't expect that Anna's family was in such deep trouble.

Seeing Anna bawling her eyes out, Bella knew only Sterling could save the day.

But Anna, reading Bella's mind, grabbed her hand and sobbed, "Don't you dare go to Sterling. He's a total jerk! He'll just use this to mess with you. Don't even think about it."

Anna kept begging Bella.

Seeing how serious Anna was, Bella promised she wouldn't go to Sterling.

Once Anna was totally wasted, Bella called Caleb to come get her.

To Bella's shock, Caleb told her to bring Anna back. That's when Bella knew something was up between Caleb and Anna.

Bella had Owen drive while she took Anna home.

Caleb was already at Anna's place. After tucking Anna into bed, Bella shot Caleb a cold look.

"I don't know what's going on with you two. Anna's my bestie. If you don't love her, let her go now. Hurt her, and you'll regret it," Bella said, her voice icy and sharp.

Owen, standing at the door, was a bit stunned. He thought he saw a bit of Sterling in Bella.

Caleb just stared at Bella in silence.

After that, Bella left Anna's house.

In the car, on the way home, Owen glanced in the rearview mirror. Bella was hugging herself, looking pretty down.

"Mrs. Windsor, I've heard some stuff about the Powell Family. They went bankrupt, and Anna's dad had a heart attack. He's in the hospital now, but it's not looking good," Owen said while driving.

Bella was shocked. She finally got why Anna felt like she had nothing left.

Anna's dad was seriously ill, her boyfriend was a jerk, her company went under, and her best friend was getting bullied by Sterling. Anna was really going through it.

Owen sighed and said, "Mrs. Windsor, I know you want Mr. Windsor to help the Powells, but knowing him, he probably won't. My advice? Stay out of it and just be there for your friend."

Bella frowned. "Owen, Anna's my best friend. I have to help her."

"In some ways, you're just like Mr. Windsor," Owen sighed again, but this time Bella didn't hear him.

When Bella got home, she was surprised to see Sterling back.

"Weren't you on a business trip? Why are you back so soon?" Bella asked, looking at Sterling on the couch.

Zoey and the other servants were giving Bella looks, but she ignored them.

Sterling sat there smoking, flicking ash into the tray.

"Owen, you've done a lot over the years. You're not getting any younger; it's time to retire. I've set up a nice nursing home in your hometown. If you don't want to go home, you can stay there," Sterling said to Owen, not even glancing at Bella.

Owen sighed and nodded.

Bella was pissed. She stormed over to Sterling and snapped, "I asked Owen to take me out. If you got a problem, take it up with me! I'm the lady of this house. Don't I get to give orders to the butler?"

Sterling finally looked up, his eyes locking onto Bella's.

"Don't forget, you're my wife. Your rights come from me," Sterling said in a low, icy tone.

Just as Bella was about to fire back, Sterling got up from the couch, shoved her aside, and headed upstairs.

"Zoey, pack Owen's stuff," Sterling's voice echoed from the second floor.

Bella was shaking with anger. Now, not only could she not ask Sterling to help the Powell Family, but she couldn't even save Owen.

"It's okay, Mrs. Windsor. I am at retirement age. Mr. Windsor won't treat me unfairly," Owen said with a smile, heading to his room.

"Mrs. Windsor, please talk to Mr. Windsor. There are so many people who don't want Owen to leave," Zoey said anxiously to Bella.

"I know, Zoey. Stall him a bit. I'll go upstairs and try to talk to him," Bella reassured Zoey and then went upstairs.

Zoey watched Bella's back and sighed, "This job isn't easy. I thought staying quiet would keep me safe, but as long as they keep fighting, we could all be affected."

Zoey shook her head helplessly and walked towards Owen's room.

Bella reached the study and hesitated before knocking.

'How can I get Owen to stay?' Bella bit her lip and suddenly thought of Debra.

Taking a deep breath, Bella pushed open the door and walked into the study.

Sterling was sitting in a chair, reading a book.

"Honey, I know I was wrong," Bella said in a sweet, pleading voice as soon as she entered.

Sterling's body tensed as he held the book. He frowned and looked up at Bella.

Bella walked over and leaned against Sterling, hugging his shoulders and shaking them.

"Please, I really know I was wrong. Please don't make Owen leave, okay? Give me another chance, please?" Bella pouted, looking pitiful.

Sterling's facial muscles twitched. Bella's behavior reminded him of Debra.

In fact, Bella didn't want to imitate Debra, but it was the only way she could think of at the moment. She had seen Sterling enjoy it when Debra acted sweet towards him before.

Bella noticed goosebumps on Sterling's arm. This made Bella feel a bit annoyed.

"Enough. You don't need to imitate Debra. Your tone makes me feel sick," Sterling said, taking a deep breath and tossing the book onto the table.

"Go tell Owen he doesn't have to leave," Sterling said, shaking off Bella's arm and walking out of the study.

'Looks like this works. Even though imitating Debra makes me feel gross, should I use this chance to bring up the Powell Family's issue?' Bella began to consider the possibility of this approach.
