Chapter 30 New Boss

When Zoey rolled up with the meds, she saw Bella looking all kinds of down.

"Mrs. Windsor, what's up? How'd you get hurt?" Zoey asked, eyebrows raised, checking out the cut on Bella's leg.

Bella, feeling pretty low, spilled the beans on what just went down.

As Zoey dabbed the medicine on Bella, she looked up, kinda helpless. "Mrs. Windsor, you ever think maybe Mr. Windsor actually loves you, and you've just been seeing it as torture and a business deal?"

Zoey's words made Bella freeze. She started replaying everything Sterling had done for her in her head.

Seeing Bella go quiet, Zoey figured her words hit home and kept going, "What happened three years ago would've been a major blow to any guy. But Mr. Windsor still married you. Doesn't that show he's into you?"

Bella shook her head, clearly not buying it. "He did all this for PR, using marriage to tie me down forever. And if he really loved me, why'd he bring another woman home?"

Zoey looked at Bella's serious face, knowing she wasn't gonna change her mind. Zoey just packed up the medical stuff and left the room.

All the staff at the villa could see Sterling was into Bella. But Sterling sucked at showing it, and Bella never believed in their relationship, leading to their messed-up marriage.

"Two smart people acting dumb when it comes to feelings," Zoey muttered as she headed back to her room.

Working at Windsor Villa had its perks. Even though the staff noticed Sterling's emotional mess, no one said much 'cause no one wanted to get fired.

Bella lay in bed, replaying Zoey's words. She still didn't buy that Sterling loved her.

Then Bella's phone rang. It was Sterling calling.

Bella picked up, but the voice on the other end wasn't Sterling's.

"Bella, it's me again. Can you come to the bar? Same place as last time. Your husband's drunk again," the voice said, sounding kinda helpless.

Bella checked the time. Sterling had only been gone for two hours, and he was already wasted again.

"Got it. I'll be there," Bella said, sighing, putting down her phone and finding Owen to drive her.

In the car, Bella wondered if she should get a driver's license. Owen was getting old, and it wasn't fair to keep bugging him.

When they got to the bar, Colin and Micah were still there, holding up Sterling.

"Bella, don't you have any booze at home? Why's your husband always out drinking?" Micah teased, looking at Bella.

Bella didn't know how to answer that. But Micah seemed to get it and quickly changed the topic.

"I remember you work at Skyline Group, right?" Micah suddenly asked.

Bella nodded, not sure where he was going with this.

Micah smirked. "You'll see tomorrow. Maybe we'll run into each other again."

Bella didn't get what Micah meant, but Sterling was too drunk, so she had to get him home first.

Just like last time, Bella helped Sterling out of his clothes and wiped him down. But this time, she didn't bail. After making sure he wasn't gonna puke again, she took him to another room.

Next morning, Sterling woke up to find Bella crashed out next to him.

Bella's face was all tired from a rough night. She was out cold, and didn't even stir when Sterling got up.

Sterling smirked a bit, quietly got out of bed, tucked Bella in, and turned off her alarm. Then he got dressed and bounced out of the villa.

When Bella finally woke up, she realized her alarm didn't go off, and she was already late.

Bella rushed to get ready and bolted to the office. As soon as she sat down, a coworker told her the boss wanted to see her.

Bella thought she was gonna get chewed out for being late. But when she opened the boss's office door, she saw Micah.

Bella stared at Micah, totally forgetting to say hi.

Micah, chillin' behind the desk, grinned at her. "Told you we'd meet again. Surprised? Let me introduce myself. I'm your new boss. Ms. Grey, looks like you're late today."

Bella rolled her eyes and smirked. "So, is Mr. Hughes gonna dock my pay?"

Micah awkwardly scratched his nose. "If I dared to do that, Sterling would kick my ass."

Micah's words made Bella raise an eyebrow. She didn't think Sterling was the violent type.

Micah saw her confusion and chuckled. "Remember your supervisor Felix getting beat up in the restroom? That was Sterling. Felix tried to make a move on you, and Sterling caught him. Poor guy. Oh, and Felix is fired. You won't see him again."

Bella finally got it. Sterling was the one who beat up Felix. And Micah being her boss? Totally Sterling's doing.

"Got it. If that's all, I'll head out," Bella said, leaving Micah's office.

For most people, having their new boss be their husband's buddy would be a win. But for Bella, it just felt like she couldn't escape Sterling's grip.

"Such a control freak," Bella muttered, then got to work at her computer.

After wrapping up her work for the day, Bella stretched and finally left the office. Even though Sterling's control was annoying, the upside of Micah being the boss was no more overtime.

As Bella walked out of the company's door with her bag, she saw a woman outside.

The woman's eyes were red and puffy from crying, and she looked worn out. Bella's face turned ice-cold when she saw her.

"Looks like you know who I am. You should get that I don't wanna see you. Move, I wanna go home," Bella said, trying to walk past Mira, but Mira grabbed her arm.

"Bella, listen to me. I am your mother after all," Mira said, but Bella cut her off.

"What right do you have to call yourself my mother? My mother died the year my parents split!" Bella glared at Mira and said in a low voice.
