Chapter 264 Forced to Act
Colin held Anna in his arms, feeling her weakness, but he couldn't resist a sarcastic remark.
"Weren't you out on a date? How'd you end up fainting from exhaustion? Your fiancé didn't even bother to carry you in."
Colin's deliberate jabs about her fiancé Caleb made Anna even more annoyed, and she felt dizzier. "Shut up and put me down."
As Colin carried her out of the elevator, Bella rushed over, alarmed at the sight of Anna being carried. "Anna, what happened? Are you hurt?"
"No, she's got heatstroke," Colin replied.
In truth, Colin had been worried about Anna since she went out that afternoon and had followed her the entire time.
Bella quickly opened the door. "How'd you get heatstroke? I'll go get some medicine."
Colin laid Anna on the bed and turned on the air conditioning. His emotions were a mix of jealousy and concern.
He knew deep down that she might not end up with Caleb, but seeing Caleb propose to her today had driven him mad with jealousy.
Colin sighed, hoping this situation would resolve quickly. He was about to leave when he felt a tug on his hand.
He turned to see Anna holding his hand, her eyes filled with emotions he couldn't decipher.
Colin knelt down and gently asked, "What's wrong? Are you feeling really uncomfortable? Bella will be back with the medicine soon, and you'll feel better after taking it."
He touched her forehead, feeling that her temperature hadn't dropped yet.
He immediately grabbed the remote from the nightstand and lowered the temperature a few more degrees.
Anna shook her head, her head throbbing, but she still held onto Colin and asked out of nowhere, "Lisa told me you turned her down. Why? Shouldn't you be happily partying with her every night?"
Colin, if not for Anna's condition, would have been tempted to snap at her.
"Where'd you hear that nonsense? Partying every night? Can't you learn something decent?"
Anna, undeterred by his evasion, pressed on, "Answer me, why?"
Colin retorted, "Are you suffering from heatstroke or did you drink too much? What kind of question is that? Do you think I, Colin, can't live without a woman and need to party every night?"
Anna looked at him and slowly nodded.
Colin was exasperated. "You should stop talking. Didn't I tell you before that I just want to find someone to settle down with?"
He paused and then asked, "Didn't you accept Caleb's proposal today? Are you regretting it?"
Anna didn't respond, closing her eyes and pretending not to hear. To her, today's ridiculous proposal didn't count.
She had only agreed to Caleb's proposal to avoid embarrassing him in front of so many people. Her reasons were many, but love for Caleb wasn't one of them.
Seeing her silence, Colin ruffled her hair. "Alright, don't think too much. Just rest."
Anna didn't know what she wanted to hear from Colin.
Soon, Bella returned with the medicine, and Colin was called away by Sterling.
Bella helped Anna take the medicine and then asked, "What happened? Did Caleb take you for a run? How'd you get heatstroke?"
Anna, still in pain, gave a bitter smile. "More exciting than a run. He proposed to me in the mall."
Bella was stunned, taking a moment to process. "What? A proposal? You didn't accept, did you?"
Anna showed Bella her hand, revealing the ring on her finger.
"You accepted?" Bella asked quietly, without the usual excitement or curiosity.
Anna, lying weakly on the bed, explained, "There were so many people watching. I didn't want to embarrass Caleb. I was forced into it. I didn't expect him to prepare such a grand proposal."
"If it were before, I would have been thrilled, but after all these years apart, the feelings just aren't the same."
Bella understood Anna's kind and soft-hearted nature.
Though Anna had a sharp tongue, she was indecisive and couldn't bear to see Caleb embarrassed.
But agreeing to the proposal, was that really okay?
Bella felt uneasy. Though the situation might resolve quickly, who knew what would happen next?
Caleb had proposed; the next step would likely be moving in together.
Was Caleb planning to tie Anna down with a child? If so, that was terrifying.
Caleb's approach, using Anna to bring down the Powell family, was chilling.
Bella feared the day Anna learned the truth and broke down.
Seeing Bella's silence, Anna forced a smile. "What's wrong? You look more troubled than me. He proposed to me, not you. Why the long face?"
Bella knew Anna was teasing her and smiled. "Nothing, just thinking that Caleb proposed to you, but Sterling hasn't proposed to me. It's a bit disappointing."
Anna said, "Are you comparing now? I'll tell Sterling to prepare a grand, high-profile proposal for you tomorrow."
Bella quickly said, "No, don't. Please don't."
She had only been joking. If Anna really told Sterling, he might actually do it, and she didn't want to die of embarrassment.
They were already married; what more did she need?
"Alright, you rest. Even with heatstroke, you can't stay still. Let me know what you want for dinner, and I'll have the hotel send it up," Bella said helplessly.
"Okay," Anna nodded.
She sighed inwardly. This trip had been unforgettable, meeting Lisa and Caleb's proposal, all adding to her stress.
She had come to relax and escape, but now she was more troubled than ever.
After leaving Anna's room, Bella went to find Sterling. She figured he and the others must have heard about Caleb's proposal by now.
When Bella entered the room, she saw Micah and the others, seemingly in the middle of a discussion. They all stopped when they saw her.
