Chapter 446 Reconciliation

Bella walked up to him and asked softly, "Why didn't you wake me up?"

Sterling put the book on the table and leaned over to fiddle with his laptop. Hearing Bella's words, he paused before saying slowly, "You were sleeping so deeply and snoring. How was I supposed to wake you?"

Hearing this, Bella's face instantly flushed with embarrassment. She never knew she had a snoring habit.

Bella coughed lightly, trying to ease the awkwardness. "Thanks for last night. I won't bother you anymore. I'll get going."

Sterling put down his laptop and looked at her gently. "You haven't eaten yet. I ordered food. Eat before you go."

"No need. I can just go back and make something simple myself." Bella almost instinctively refused Sterling's invitation, her voice carrying a hint of barely noticeable distance, as if deliberately keeping her distance from Sterling.

Hearing this, Sterling gently closed his laptop, shifting his gaze from the screen to Bella.

"Colin hasn't called yet," he said slowly, his voice deep and firm, as if each word carried deeper meaning.

This statement was both an explanation and a reminder, making Bella realize that Colin might still be at the apartment, so it wasn't really appropriate for her to go back right now.

After some internal struggle and consideration, Bella finally nodded and forced a smile. "Alright then, thanks for the trouble." Though her voice carried a hint of reluctance.

Bella's words still revealed a kind of unfamiliarity and wariness toward a stranger. This made Sterling feel somewhat frustrated and helpless. He knew there was still quite a distance between him and Bella that needed to be crossed. But he also understood that this distance couldn't be shortened overnight—it would take time and patience to gradually close the gap.

So Sterling said nothing more. He just silently stood up, straightened his clothes, and went back to the bedroom.

The takeout arrived quickly. Bella looked at the table full of various dishes. These dishes looked and smelled amazing, clearly from Colin's restaurant. Each dish gave off an enticing aroma that made one's mouth water.

Sterling watched her unwrap all the packaging one by one and fill the table, a barely noticeable smile playing at the corner of his mouth. He didn't say much, just silently picked up his utensils and began eating.

While eating, Sterling suddenly put down his utensils. He glanced at Bella, then served her a lot of food all at once. "You've lost weight."

Sterling's tone was unexpectedly gentle. Hearing this, Bella's heart trembled. Her fingers gripping the utensils tightened involuntarily, and the spoon scraped lightly against the edge of the bowl, making a faint sound.

Bella didn't dare look into Sterling's eyes. She just kept her head down, silently eating the food in her bowl.

In the past, she had countless times hoped Sterling would be gentler with her, even if it was just a simple word of concern. However, those years of coldness and distance had already left her heart full of wounds.

Now, when she so easily received this long-awaited gentleness, it no longer felt the way it should have.

Sterling looked at Bella's lowered eyes, and an indescribable feeling welled up in his heart. He knew he had missed too much and hurt her too much. Now, he wanted to make up for it, wanted to use his actions to warm her once-cold heart.

But she no longer gave him any chance to get close.

In the apartment, in the kitchen, the aroma of food drifted out leisurely, stirring Anna's appetite. She rubbed her sleepy eyes, her hair still messy from just waking up, and bounced into the kitchen looking confused.

"Bella, what are you making? It smells so good, I'm drooling..." Before she finished speaking, she froze. Standing in the kitchen wasn't Bella, but Colin!

Colin was wearing casual clothes with an apron tied around his waist, holding a spatula and stir-frying the food in the pan.

Anna's expression instantly became stiff. She widened her eyes, looking at Colin in disbelief.

She had no memory of how he got here, much less why he was here cooking. Countless questions flashed through her mind, but she didn't know where to start asking.

Colin looked back at her, his eyes carrying some amusement and tenderness. His voice was deep and magnetic. "You're awake? Get ready and come eat."

Anna's mood felt like it was covered by dark clouds, that uncomfortable feeling spreading through her heart, leaving her momentarily lost and confused.

She only remembered getting drunk last night, but everything after that was a complete blank—she had no memory of it at all.

So how exactly did Colin end up here? Her heart was full of doubt and confusion.

When they broke up, their relationship had indeed become quite unpleasant. At that time, she thought their relationship had reached its end, that the hurt between them could no longer be mended.

But just now, seeing Colin busy in the kitchen and his calm, natural expression when speaking to her, she couldn't help but doubt her own memory. Did she never actually break up with him? Was all of this just her imagination?

Anna felt like she had fallen into a chaotic whirlpool, unable to distinguish what was real and what was illusion.

While she was dawdling on the toilet, trying to sort out her thoughts, Colin suddenly pushed open the bathroom door. His voice carried a hint of impatience. "Can you hurry up? You slept until now and you're not hungry?"

Though these words sounded somewhat rude, they revealed a familiar intimacy. But her face turned red, and she grabbed the soap dish and threw it at him.

Colin quickly closed the door with quick reflexes. "Alright, hurry up!"

When she came out of the bathroom, Anna's mood was still unsettled. She saw Colin already sitting properly at the dining table.

After sitting down, Anna couldn't hold back her doubts and asked, "What's going on? Didn't we break up?"

Her voice carried a hint of trembling, clearly not completely recovered from her earlier confusion.

Colin was prepared. He calmly took out his phone from his pocket, tapped it lightly, and the screen immediately played a pre-recorded phone conversation.

It was Anna from last night when she was drunk, calling him over and over, desperately begging to see him, saying nonsense about not wanting to break up. Then he opened a video, where she looked even more disheveled, tearfully expressing her love and reluctance to let him go.

Listening to the recording and watching the video, Anna's face looked terrible. She could hardly believe this was her own behavior last night. She awkwardly lowered her head, her voice getting smaller and smaller. "I just drank too much and was talking nonsense. You actually believe that?"
