Chapter 151 Kept Outside

To take over the Rivera family, Colin had to show some serious leadership, but his personality had rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.

If he wanted to run the Rivera family in the future, he was definitely going to face some big hurdles.

Elysia and Cade looked pretty ticked off. They didn't care about the marriage alliance; they were all about the Elysian Horizon project.

With the Turner family and the bank loans about to expire, they were stressing over how to pay back those billions. The Elysian Horizon project was their last shot, and even a tiny profit would help.

Gia sighed and asked, "Colin, have you really thought this through? You want to call off the engagement?"

Colin replied, "Calling off the engagement is up to them." He stared straight at Elysia and Cade.

"What do you mean?" Cade snapped, clearly pissed.

Colin smirked, "You want the two percent profit from the Elysian Horizon project? Fine, call off the engagement, and those two percent will be your compensation for Miss Turner's reputation. Deal?"

Elysia and Cade stayed quiet, but Opal lost it. "No, I don't agree. Colin, I messed up. Give me another chance. I promise I won't see Miss Powell again."

But Colin wasn't having it. "Mom, I'll leave this to you," he said.

Colin was about to walk out, but Gia stopped him. He looked at her, puzzled.

Gia turned to Elysia and Cade, "Mr. Turner, Mrs. Turner, since they aren't a good match, I'm willing to trade the two percent profit from the Elysian Horizon project for calling off the engagement. But the Rivera and Turner families will still work together. Consider it our compensation. I'll give you this two percent profit."

Elysia and Cade were secretly thrilled but pretended to be mad. They stood up and said, "Fine, I can accept how the Rivera family is treating Opal. Calling off the engagement is the right move. I've heard about Mr. Rivera's affairs. His private life is a mess, and Opal is smart to get out now."

Cade then glared at Opal. "Why are you crying? Don't make a scene."

Colin's face turned icy. "My private life is none of your business."

But Opal still clung to Colin's arm, pleading, "Colin, I really like you. Give me another chance, okay?"

Colin calmly pulled his arm away and said coldly, "Miss Turner, I haven't even brought up the online photos. I hope you won't do such petty things in the future."

Hearing that Colin was still defending Anna, Opal got furious and yelled, "I didn't do it. I took down all the photos like you asked. I have no idea who posted the later ones. Believe me."

Colin didn't respond. After the butler escorted the Turner family out, only Colin and Gia were left in the living room.

Gia broke the silence, "Colin, is Miss Powell the reason you want to call off the engagement?"

Colin glanced at her and said, "How do you know it's because of her? What, can't I make my own decisions about my marriage? Does the Rivera family need to use me for a marriage alliance to grow stronger?"

Gia shook her head, knowing Colin didn't want to listen, but she still said, "You know how it is with wealthy families—it's all about mutual interests. If you really like Miss Powell, you can keep her as a mistress, but she's not fit to be the lady of the Rivera family."

Colin snorted, "The woman I choose to love could be from a wealthy family or a modest background. But do you think I'd be okay with keeping her on the side, without status? Do you think I'm like Dad?"

When Colin mentioned his father, Gia's face immediately darkened. "Colin, don't push your luck. Just because I'm willing to let you keep Miss Powell doesn't mean I can accept her becoming a member of the Rivera family."

Colin suddenly smiled and said something that struck Gia. "Mom, have you forgotten how Grandpa and Grandma didn't let you into the Rivera Mansion back then?"

Seeing Gia stunned, Colin continued, "How did you feel? You were also a girl from a wealthy family, right? Now you're using the same tactics on the woman I like. How are you any different from how Grandpa and Grandma treated you back then?"

These words were like a knife stabbing into Gia's heart, making her tremble slightly.

Colin continued, "Mom, are you preventing a woman of low status from becoming a member of the Rivera family to get back at what Grandpa and Grandma did to you, or do you simply look down on women of low status? Or is it that you've always looked down on yourself?"

His words were harsh but also woke Gia up. She had meticulously crafted her reputation. She thought she had forgotten, thought she was truly a wealthy person, but before becoming a member of the Rivera family, she was also an ordinary woman with no background. She was fortunate to have attracted Colin's father's attention.

Gia realized Colin was right. Her tactics against Anna were no different from how his grandparents treated her back then.

Colin knew his words were harsh, but he had to say them to wake Gia up. He didn't continue to provoke her and just said, "Mom, my words may have been harsh, but please understand that I'm particular about whom I love. But if I like a woman, I won't look down on her because of her status."

After saying this, Colin turned and left the house. He had been ordered by Gia to stay home for the past few days, waiting for Opal's family to visit.

Although it was supposed to be an apology, Gia's inherent pride wouldn't let her visit in person. She waited for Opal's family to visit, and Colin felt Gia had really lost herself over the years.

But he never blamed Gia. Perhaps she had her own helplessness.

Leaving the Rivera Mansion, Colin's first instinct was to find Anna. However, he hesitated, fearing that his presence would cause her more trouble. Despite this, he went straight to find Micah, wanting to know what was going on with Anna.

But no one expected that three days later, another piece of news hit the headlines.

And it wasn't just a scuffle; it was a one-sided beatdown. This incident catapulted the situation into an even bigger frenzy, with everyone speculating that Colin had lashed out in anger, all for Anna's sake.
