Chapter 80 The Tense Physical Examination
Bella originally wanted to refuse, but Sterling ignored her refusal and forcibly had Ryan take her to the hospital.
On the way there, she avoided looking at Ryan in the rearview mirror and secretly texted Anna on her phone.
"Mrs. Windsor, Mr. Windsor is just worried about you. Plus, you've been feeling pretty lousy lately. Those stomachaches aren't going to fix themselves," Ryan said from the driver's seat, trying to comfort her.
"I get it, I just can't stand the smell of hospitals," Bella said, trying to brush him off.
Ryan noticed her fiddling with her phone and gently reminded her, "Mrs. Windsor, using your phone in the car might make you feel worse. With your stomach issues, that's not a great idea."
"I know, I just have some urgent stuff to discuss with Micah. He's my boss now, and I can't afford to lose this job," Bella said, making up another excuse.
In reality, she was texting Anna non-stop.
Bella: [Anna, help me out. Sterling's making Ryan take me to the hospital for a check-up. He might find out I'm pregnant.]
Anna: [Wouldn't that be a good thing? Sterling might treat you better because of the baby. At least he wouldn't hurt you anymore.]
Bella: [No, even if you're right, it's only for a few months. Once I give birth, I'm screwed.]
Anna: [What's going on? I never got your logic. Shouldn't Sterling be happy to know he's having a kid?]
Bella clenched her fists and finally decided to spill the beans about her deal with Sterling.
Bella: [Sterling said that if I have a baby, he'd let me go. But I can't let him take the baby away from me. You know my past; my mom abandoned me, and I don't want my kid to go through that.]
Anna: [Then stay with the baby. Wait, are you worried Sterling will use the baby to keep controlling you? That sounds like something he'd do!]
Bella: [Exactly, so you have to help me.]
Anna: [But how? I'm not a doctor. Wait! Maybe I do have an idea?]
Seeing Anna had a plan, Bella's eyes lit up.
Bella: [What is it? Tell me quick!]
Anna: [I just had a physical for a job application. I'll go to the hospital and wait for you. We can swap the reports.]
Bella: [Okay, let's do it.]
After agreeing on the plan with Anna, Bella relaxed and put her phone away.
Ryan noticed her relaxed expression in the rearview mirror and smiled, "Mrs. Windsor, did you sort things out?"
His words startled Bella, making her think he knew about her and Anna's plan. But she quickly realized he was talking about her work discussion with Micah.
"Yeah, it's all good," Bella smiled and secretly sent a leave message to Micah.
Even though she doubted Sterling would check with Micah, she wanted to be prepared.
When they got to the hospital, Bella quickly took advantage of Ryan parking the car to find the doctor first. She asked the doctor to skip any tests that weren't safe for pregnant women.
After her check-up, Bella waited anxiously for the report.
'The report should be ready soon. Where the heck is Anna?' Bella thought, looking around nervously but not seeing Anna anywhere.
"Ryan, why don't you head back? I'll wait here," Bella suggested.
Ryan shook his head. "Sorry, Mrs. Windsor, Mr. Windsor told me to see your report first."
Bella bit her lip, worried the doctor's report would come out before Anna showed up.
Her fears seemed to be coming true.
Just then, a nurse wearing a mask walked over with a report.
"Is this Miss Grey? Here's your report," the nurse said, winking at Bella as she handed it over.
Bella felt a wave of relief wash over her when she realized the nurse was actually Anna in disguise.
Ryan quickly took the report and looked it over.
After reading it, Ryan sighed in relief. "Mrs. Windsor, it looks like your stomach condition has gotten worse. You need to take your meds on time. Also, you have some anemia. I'll let Mr. Windsor know so he can stop worrying."
Ryan then stepped outside to call Sterling.
Once he was gone, Bella grabbed Anna's hand, surprised. "How did you pull off the nurse disguise?"
Anna grinned. "I borrowed it from a friend who works here."
Bella gave her a thumbs-up for her quick thinking.
"Don't celebrate just yet. Even if you get through this time, your belly's going to grow, and Sterling's not blind. Have you thought about what to do next?" Anna asked, worried.
Bella shook her head, feeling stressed. "Not yet."
Anna sighed and gently touched Bella's belly. "You've put on some weight recently. You don't have much time."
Bella nodded, feeling the pressure. She needed a plan.
Just then, Ryan came back, and Bella signaled Anna, who nodded and left.
"Mrs. Windsor, Mr. Windsor asked us to stop by the pharmacy to get some meds. He also told Zoey to get you some supplements," Ryan said with a smile.
As Bella and Ryan were leaving the hospital and getting into the car, they heard someone knocking on the window.
Bella looked out and frowned. It was her mother, Mira.
"What do you want?" Bella rolled down the window and asked coldly.
Mira glanced at Ryan in the driver's seat and said bitterly, "I need to talk to you alone. Please, Bella, give me a chance."
