Chapter 91 Selling Alcohol

Bella had asked Anna to look into Owen's situation yesterday. Turned out, Owen got bailed out and Sterling hooked him up with a new gig, which finally let her breathe a sigh of relief.

She figured Sterling had some decency left. At least he didn't ditch Owen, which was a bit of a comfort.

She spent a few chill days with her cat, but Anna was still knee-deep in trouble.

One night at the bar where she worked part-time, a few drunk customers started causing trouble, and she couldn't shake them off.

Out of nowhere, a hand yanked her into a tight embrace.

"You got the guts to mess with Mr. Rivera's girl? Beat it!" the bar manager barked at the rowdy customers.

Then he turned to Colin with a sheepish grin. "Sorry, Mr. Rivera, I had no idea Miss Powell was your girl. I wouldn't have let her work here if I knew. My bad, totally my bad."

Anna watched the manager's groveling act. He wasn't like this with them. What a phony.

"Scram," Colin growled.

Then he glanced down at Anna in his arms.

"How long are you planning to stay in my arms? Enjoying yourself?" Colin chuckled lazily.

Anna stomped hard on his foot, fuming.

"Let go of me first," she snapped, slapping Colin's hand off her waist forcefully.

Colin, now with a sore foot and a slapped hand, lost his cool.

"You! I just saved your butt, and this is the thanks I get?" He glared at Anna.

"Thanks, I guess," she said, clearly not meaning it, her tone dismissive.

Because even if Colin hadn't shown up, she had her own way to handle it, probably with some force.

Colin noticed her in the bar's bunny costume, with those cute ears on her head.

"Still selling drinks?" He flicked her headband.

Anna shot him a look. "Yeah, you buying?"

She was $50,000 short of her daily goal, then she could call it a night.

Colin nodded.

"How much more?" he asked about her target.

Anna held out her hand, looking at him.

"$50,000, Mr. Rivera, can you swing it?" She knew Colin had deep pockets, but all rich guys were the same.

Colin pretended not to notice the calculation in Anna's eyes. He smiled. "Sure, come with me. Upstairs is where the big spenders are. How much you sell is up to you."

Anna snorted, unsure of his game, but she knew his friends were loaded.

She didn't hesitate and followed Colin to the upstairs VIP room. She wasn't surprised to see Sterling and Micah there. They were buddies, so it made sense they'd be hanging out.

But Anna shot Sterling a dirty look. She hadn't forgotten what he did to Bella.

"What are you standing there for? Aren't you here to sell drinks?" Colin reminded her when he saw Anna lingering at the door.

Micah recognized Anna. He didn't get what Colin was up to.

"What are you doing, bringing her here?" he frowned and asked.

Most of the folks there didn't know Anna, so they had no clue she used to be the Powell family's princess. They just saw her as another pretty face trying to catch a rich guy's eye.

So, their looks were full of disdain and a bit of sleazy interest.

"Hey there, gorgeous! First time here? Don't be shy, we don't bite. Come on, pour us some drinks. I'll cover whatever you're short of tonight," a bearded guy in the room said, eyeing Anna up and down.

Anna knew this guy was bad news.

If it were the old Anna, she would've dumped the drink on his head without a second thought. But now, with her family bankrupt, she had to swallow her pride and step up.

"Sure, this bottle is $58,000. You buying?" she asked with a smile, holding up the priciest wine she had.

Axel Bennett's face twitched a bit at that.

What kind of wine costs that much?

But with everyone watching, he couldn't back down.

"Fine, as long as you drink this wine, I'll buy it. My bottle's already open, and it'd be a waste not to finish it," Axel said, pushing the wine on the table towards Anna.

Anna smiled.

"Alright, I'll drink," she said, but just as she picked up the bottle, Axel snatched it away.

"Drinking it like that is no fun. How about I feed you?" he said with a nasty grin, making Anna's skin crawl.

He poured the wine into a glass and grabbed Anna's hand, pulling her into his lap. He raised the glass to pour the wine into her mouth.

The other guys just watched.

"Are you just gonna sit there and let Anna get bullied?" Micah asked calmly, swirling his wine glass.

Sterling looked lost in thought, indifferent.

Colin snorted, "I just want to see if she'll fight back when pushed."

Micah smiled and said nothing.

When people were pushed to their limit, they could do anything, and it was true.

Anna couldn't break free, Axel's hand was on her waist, pouring wine into her mouth. With the mocking laughter from the others, she couldn't care about making money anymore.

She quietly grabbed a bottle of wine and smashed it hard on Axel's head.

The room went dead silent for a moment.

Anna took the chance to pry Axel's hand away and bolted out of there.

The door muffled his angry curses.

Anna ran into the bathroom, scrubbing her hands furiously under the faucet. It felt like she couldn't wash away the filth, scrubbing so hard her fingers turned white.

But the sticky feeling wouldn't go away. Her face went pale as she looked at herself in the mirror, feeling like today had been a nightmare.

Anna glanced weakly at the bathroom door and closed her eyes to catch her breath.

Looked like she lost her job today. She didn't hit her target, and she hit a customer. She'd probably have to pay up.

Now she felt a bit of regret. Wasn't it just drinking? Wasn't it just being touched? What was the big deal? She wouldn't get hurt anyway.
