Chapter 120 I Admit Defeat
Nia gave a quick nod. "Yeah, I think so."
Sterling replied, "Got it."
Nia just shrugged, not in the mood to deal with Bella. She pressed her lips together and walked away without a word.
Bella was crying like her world had just ended.
Out of nowhere, Sterling handed Bella a piece of paper. "What's going on? Why are you crying? Who upset you?"
Seeing Sterling made Bella feel even worse. If it weren't for what happened with Lucas, if Lucas hadn't had that accident, she could still be happy. But now, it was too late for that.
Bella looked at Sterling and asked, "Why do you like Debra? Are you using her to get back at me, or do you really like her? If that's the case, then I give up, okay? I can't compete with you all. You torment me, Debra torments me, and now even my mom is tormenting me. Are you all so heartless? Why do you have to treat me this way?"
She continued, "Debra killed my child, and my mom helped her cover it up by blaming the driver. And you're just like them, protecting Debra. That was our child. How can you be so heartless? I give up, okay? I'll stay at Windsor Villa from now on. I won't go anywhere. Sterling, please let me go. I'm really tired."
Bella was crying so hard she could barely breathe. "I'm really tired. If you like Debra, just let me go, okay? I can't compete with you all."
Bella collapsed on the edge of the bed, unable to stop her tears. Sterling listened to Bella's accusations and saw her tears. The pain in his heart was just as intense as Bella's.
Sterling squatted down and said, "Bella, I won't see Debra anymore. You don't have to worry about her, okay? Tell me what happened."
Bella looked up at Sterling. He had brought her back when she was young, watched her grow up, and then tormented her. Bella really didn't know what kind of twisted relationship this was.
If Sterling was like a brother, then why would he do such intimate things with her? But if he was her lover, why would he torment and humiliate her so much?
Bella thought she might be depressed; otherwise, why was she always so emotionally unstable?
Bella looked at Sterling and asked, "Are you really never going to see Debra again?"
Sterling nodded. "I won't see her again. Don't cry."
He reached out to wipe away Bella's tears. What Bella didn't know was that seeing her cry also caused Sterling great pain.
He picked Bella up, held her close, and said, "I'm sorry. Is it me and Debra who made you suffer? And your mom too?"
It was the first time Sterling had apologized. Bella thought he was apologizing for the child, so she didn't feel comforted.
Bella said, "You are all murderers. You all protected Debra. The help you gave the Foster family was exchanged for my child's life. Remember, it was exchanged for my child's life."
Sterling looked into Bella's pained eyes, and his heart ached so much he could hardly breathe.
He reached out to wipe her tears and said, "Bella, I always keep my word. There has never been another woman around me, no Debra, no Nia."
Bella looked at Sterling with tear-filled eyes, wondering, 'Is he really explaining himself to me?'
Sterling, sensing her doubt, pulled out his phone. "I'll call Debra right now and tell her to stay away."
He dialed Debra's number.
As soon as the call connected, Debra's voice came through, "Sterling, you finally remembered to call me. I..."
Before she could finish, Bella cut in, "Debra, it's me. Sterling doesn't want you around anymore. He really hates you. Don't come near him again."
Debra's tone turned vicious. "Bella, how dare you use Sterling's phone to call me? What are you trying to pull? You bitch, playing the victim again? You evil woman."
Debra kept ranting, and Sterling stood there with a grim look on his face. Debra continued, her words becoming increasingly vile.
Bella deliberately kept the call going, wanting Sterling to see Debra's true colors. The more Debra ranted, the better; she wanted Sterling to get mad.
Finally, Sterling grabbed the phone. "It's me. I won't see you anymore. The help for the Foster family is done. I've had enough."
Debra's tone changed instantly. "It's not like that, Sterling. Listen to me."
But Sterling cut her off. "Debra, I'll ask you one more time. Was that car accident really the driver's fault?"
Debra, caught off guard, tried to hide her panic. "Of course."
Sterling hung up.
He turned to Bella. "Do you believe me now?"
Bella suddenly said, "I want to go to work tomorrow."
Sterling's face darkened. "You're not fully recovered. You need more rest."
Bella insisted, "I'm fine. I really want to go to work. Didn't you say you'd consider my feelings from now on? Well, I want to go to work tomorrow."
Seeing her determination, he relented. "Fine, but take care of yourself."
Bella nodded.
After Sterling coaxed her to sleep, he went to his study, thinking about everything Bella had said.
Her tearful words still echoed in his mind, making his heart ache. He never doubted that Bella's child was his. In moments of anger, he had said many hurtful things.
Looking back, those words had hurt Bella deeply. That was their child, and he wouldn't let their child die in vain.
Now, he really wanted to have another child with Bella. Maybe a child could help mend their relationship.
When Sterling brought Bella back, he was driven by revenge and the desire to torment her.
Over the years, he had acted on those feelings, humiliating and tormenting Bella. But he never felt the satisfaction of revenge.
