Chapter 159 Settling the Score Upon Return
Bella took a deep breath and said calmly, "He's coming to settle scores with me? I haven't even started with him yet."
She thought about the photo of him and Debra from last night, which made her blood boil. With that in mind, she wasn't scared of Sterling coming after her anymore.
The next day, Bella and Anna headed to the nursing home again, only to find out that Beck had already checked out and was nowhere to be found.
They were stunned. Was someone else pulling the strings? Why did Beck vanish just after they found him?
They exchanged a look, and Bella quickly said, "Anna, call the private detective right now and have him track down where Beck was taken."
At the nursing home, they learned that Beck was taken by a young, handsome, and tall guy. Most importantly, he seemed loaded; otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to cover Beck's nursing and living expenses for so long.
The nurses were unusually excited when they talked about the guy who took Beck, like he was their dream boyfriend.
Bella said, "Have the private detective check his marital status too. See if he got married over the years and has a rich son who can afford such high medical bills."
Bella laid out all the details and asked Anna to get the private detective on it. She needed answers.
The detective agreed, saying as long as he got paid, everything else was cool.
Bella was actually feeling very sad today, probably because of what happened with Sterling last night and Beck's disappearance today. Her mental defenses were crumbling, like someone was playing a cruel game with her.
The truth she had been chasing for so long, and the relationship she thought could turn into love with Sterling, seemed to have disappeared overnight.
All the moments she had shared with Sterling, all the warmth, now felt like a dream, reminding her it was time to wake up.
Anna noticed Bella's disappointment and said, "Bella, don't worry. We've seen Beck. It's just a matter of time before we find him."
Bella stood in the cold wind, trying to clear her head. "Of course, I won't give up. He worked at Windsor Villa for so long; they have all his records. As long as he's not really dead, I believe we can find him."
Anna nodded vigorously, and Bella walked out of the nursing home.
Just as she was about to say a few more comforting words to Bella, her phone rang.
Without looking, Anna answered, "Mom, if you can't cook, just order takeout, okay? I've given you money. What do you want now? Gambling, shopping? Please, stop bothering me."
Before Anna could finish, she was interrupted by the caller. "Anna!"
Anna thought she misheard. Her eyes widened as she glanced at her phone screen and exclaimed, "This isn't my mom? It's a strange number."
Anna heard a man's voice on the phone and paused for a moment. Then suddenly, she felt a wave of shock wash over her. She immediately shouted to Bella, "Bella!"
Bella was startled and turned back, saying, "What's the matter?"
Anna, covering the phone, looked at her in horror. "It's Sterling. He called me. Is he looking for you?"
Anna handed the phone to Bella, who immediately noticed that it was indeed Sterling's private number.
Bella thought this was the first time Sterling had called Anna to find her, and she felt a strange sensation.
She took the phone and asked in a bad tone, "What's the matter?"
Hearing Bella's words, Sterling asked, "What's going on with you? You called me out last night, didn't say anything, and then hung up angrily. This morning, you didn't answer my calls. If I hadn't called Anna, I wouldn't even know where you are. Now, come home. Before I see you, you'd better think about how to explain yourself."
Listening in on the conversation, Anna got furious. She grabbed the phone and yelled, "There's nothing to explain, you jerk. When you're out there flirting and sleeping with other women, do you explain that to Bella? Your photos with Debra are all over social media. How dare you ask Bella for an explanation?"
Bella, frightened, grabbed the phone and hung up. She said, "Anna, what are you doing? Calm down. Do you even realize what could happen if you piss him off? Things between Sterling and me are already complicated. I don't care what you say, but I'm afraid he won't let you off."
Anna spun around and said, "Don't worry. I have nothing now. What more can he do to me? But that jerk, flirting with Debra, still wants to ask for an explanation from you. Stop being so meek. If you keep acting like this, Sterling will walk all over you."
Bella was finally amused by Anna's words. She said, "Stay calm. Since Sterling wronged me, let's use his money to have fun and get back at him."
Hearing that, Anna said, "Sure, we'll go to the restaurant at Whitewater Bay and order the most expensive dishes. If we don't spend it, he'll just spend it on other women. Let's use it all today."
Bella, amused by the whole situation, was dragged to the expensive Whitewater Bay Restaurant by Anna, who insisted they spend all his money.
At Whitewater Bay, Bella wanted to tell Anna that the restaurant was owned by Colin and that Sterling had taken her there frequently. But Bella was afraid that if she said it, Anna wouldn't want to come there.
They ordered a table full of food. While they were dining, Anna glanced up and noticed a tall figure entering the restaurant.
As he got closer, she realized it was Sterling. She didn't expect him to find them so quickly.
And he spotted them right away. Anna signaled to Bella, "He is back."
