Chapter 79 Severe Infection
After chatting with the cops, Bella finally found out that the person who'd been sending her the letter had vanished ages ago.
"A couple used to live there with a kid. They disappeared, leaving just the kid, but then the kid went missing too. No one knows where they went. Sorry, we can't help you," the officer said, looking pretty helpless.
"Thanks, that's enough for now," Bella replied, though she looked really bummed out. It seemed like her lead had gone cold again.
Bella carefully put the photo back in her bag and got ready to leave. But then she spotted Orion and his crew sitting on a bench, rubbing their eyes like crazy.
"Orion, what's up with you guys?" Bella asked, worried.
Orion and his team's eyes were red and bloodshot. "Sorry, Mrs. Windsor, our eyes hurt like hell. We might have an infection. Damn, that stripper's urine must've been contaminated."
Bella immediately took Orion and his team to the town's hospital. The doctor said they had a severe infection, but the town didn't have the right meds.
"Sorry, Mrs. Windsor, looks like we can't protect you anymore," Orion and his team said, closing their eyes tightly, sounding really apologetic.
"It's okay, I can call Sterling and have him send a helicopter to pick us up," Bella said, pulling out her phone to call Sterling.
Three hours later, a helicopter showed up in town. Once it landed, Sterling jumped out.
Bella and Anna helped Orion and his team.
"We're really sorry, Mr. Windsor, we messed up," Orion apologized.
Sterling glanced at the streetlamp, looking a bit speechless. "Alright, I've already contacted the hospital. This helicopter will take you straight there."
He waved his hand, and someone immediately helped Orion and his team onto the helicopter.
Sterling looked at Bella, who was looking down, clearly embarrassed.
Orion and his team had gotten infected while helping her chase down leads.
"Let's talk on the helicopter," Sterling said, not blaming Bella right away, and led them onto the helicopter.
The helicopter was way faster than driving, and in just over two hours, they arrived at a nearby hospital.
Orion and his team were taken into the operating room. Outside, Sterling stared at the silent Bella.
"Staying quiet won't save them. Weren't you looking for someone? Did you find any leads?" Sterling asked.
Bella shook her head and explained everything to Sterling.
When Sterling heard that they had gone to a strip club, he frowned deeply.
He wanted to scold Bella, but seeing the sadness in her eyes, he held back.
At that moment, the operating room door opened, and a doctor came out and spoke to Sterling.
Bella and Anna listened carefully and caught words like "severe infection" and "blindness."
"Is Orion and his team's condition serious?" Bella asked Sterling, worried.
Sterling looked at Bella and said, "The doctor said their eyes are severely infected. They might go blind."
Anna's eyes widened in shock. "Damn, was that stripper's urine some kind of biological weapon?"
Sterling, clearly annoyed, turned to Bella. "Places like that are full of thugs and lowlifes. What would you have done if you were in danger?"
Bella bit her lip and didn't argue.
Anna wanted to defend her but was stopped by Bella.
"Can Orion and his team's eyes be treated?" Bella asked.
Sterling waved his hand dismissively. "I'll get the best doctors to treat them. If they can't be cured, they'll get compensation and insurance. As long as they don't gamble or buy drugs, they can retire comfortably."
Seeing that Bella wanted to say more, Sterling cut her off impatiently. "I know you care about them, but this job comes with risks. For them, your comforting words are less valuable than money. I'll have someone stay with them. You should go home."
Bella bit her lip. She knew Sterling was right, but his almost cold words made her feel uncomfortable.
"Got it, I'll go home," she said, standing up and preparing to leave with Anna.
Sterling's voice came from behind them. "Take a shower when you get home. I don't want any germs from that strip club in my bedroom."
Bella took a deep breath, resisting the urge to argue with Sterling, and left the hospital. His words made it sound like he was calling her a stripper.
After leaving the hospital, Bella and Anna parted ways. The first thing Bella did when she got home was take a shower.
When she came out of the bathroom, she took out the photo again.
"Dad, if you can see me from heaven, please give me a clue!" Bella's tears fell onto the photo.
She quickly took out a tissue to gently wipe the tears off the photo.
This photo might be her only clue.
If she could find out who the people in the photo were, she might be able to find out who was sending her the letter.
That night, Bella had a dream. She dreamed of a plane crashing from the sky, turning into a huge fireball.
From the fireball came the screams of men and women, and a man in a pilot's uniform walked out.
The pilot was on fire, walking towards Bella step by step. The flames burned his skin, revealing white bones.
"Bella, I've come to find you. I'm a hero! Come give me a hug," Bella's father said with a creepy smile, looking like a burning zombie.
Bella screamed as Lucas reached out to her, then she sat up in bed.
She had had a nightmare.
Her movements woke up Sterling, who was sleeping beside her.
"What are you doing?" Sterling asked coldly.
"I had a nightmare..." Bella started to say, but suddenly felt a sharp pain in her lower abdomen, making her face turn pale.
"What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?" Sterling asked, his tone carrying a hint of concern.
"I'm fine." Bella shook her head. She knew it was related to her pregnancy, but Sterling didn't know.
He immediately contacted Ryan to drive Bella to the hospital for a check-up.
