Chapter 46 The Reckless Mistress
Debra's heart sank. Seeing Sterling all serious and intimidating was a rare sight. She started thinking maybe things were way more complicated than she thought.
She was like, 'Why? Sterling knows Bella doesn't love him, so why won't he just divorce her? Is it just some dumb male pride thing?' Debra couldn't wrap her head around Sterling's thoughts, but she was super jealous of Bella. A guy as awesome as Sterling was snatched up by Bella, who didn't even appreciate him.
Debra figured she had to stir the pot between Bella and Sterling to split them up. She wanted to be Sterling's real wife, not just his side chick.
While Sterling was busy, Debra strutted into his bedroom, took a shower, and grabbed one of Bella's nightgowns from the wardrobe, acting like she owned the place.
After all that, Debra waltzed into the living room and barked at Owen, "Hey, go get the guest room ready."
Owen frowned at Debra's bossy attitude and then glanced at Bella.
Bella was chilling on the couch, flipping through a magazine. "Owen, go help her with the guest room."
Owen nodded and called a servant to get the room ready.
Debra shot daggers at Owen's back and muttered, "Damn it. Can't he see who the future lady of the house is?"
Bella looked up at Debra, squinting. "Debra, I'm warning you, if you keep being rude, get out of my house."
Debra sneered. "I said it. What are you gonna do about it? Sterling brought me home on Christmas Eve. Haven't you figured it out yet? The guest room is for you."
Bella stood up and rolled the magazine in her hand into a tube. "You think you can just waltz into Sterling's bed? Let me give you a heads-up; he doesn't like arrogant women."
Debra shouted, "Don't think just because you've been around him for a while, you know him well. You're just the daughter of a criminal. Your dad killed his parents, and he keeps you around to torment you!"
Bella didn't say a word. She just raised the rolled-up magazine and smacked Debra in the face with it.
Debra, fuming, was ready to throw down, but Owen stepped in front of her, giving her a cold stare.
With Owen there, Debra didn't dare go too crazy. She turned and stormed upstairs to Sterling's room, and soon, the sound of things breaking echoed through the house.
Bella bit her lip, ignoring the noise. Debra wouldn't dare break Sterling's stuff; she was probably smashing Bella's cosmetics, but Bella didn't care.
Bella kept lounging on the couch, reading her magazine. She wasn't about to move to a guest room just because Debra said so. Even though there was no love between her and Sterling, she was still the lady of the house and had to keep her dignity.
Eventually, Bella started feeling sleepy. Just as she was about to doze off, laughter and Debra's flirty voice came from upstairs, waking her up.
After waiting for two hours, the noise upstairs finally died down. Owen, seeing how exhausted Bella looked, walked over with some concern.
"Mrs. Windsor, aren't you gonna rest?" Owen asked.
Bella shook her head. "No way I'm bowing down to that bitch Debra. I'm not going to the guest room."
Owen's tone was firm. "That's right. You're Mrs. Windsor, and no one can take that spot from you."
Bella frowned. In this house, it felt like everyone expected so much from her, like a heavy burden she couldn't shake off.
Bella got up and went upstairs, stopping in front of Sterling's door.
As Bella hesitated, Owen just pushed the door open, making her jump.
Bella instinctively looked away, not wanting to see Sterling and Debra naked together.
"Mr. Windsor, Mrs. Windsor isn't feeling well and needs to rest. Let the guest go to the guest room," Owen said with a hint of elder authority in his voice.
The scene in the room wasn't what Bella had imagined.
Sterling was sitting in a chair by the floor-to-ceiling window, smoking, and glanced at Bella without saying a word.
Debra was super pissed at Owen's words. "Sterling already said I could stay with him tonight. Bella, you should go to the guest room."
Bella knew she had to speak up now, or she'd look too weak.
"Until I divorce him, I'm the lady of this house. You don't want me to call security to throw you out, do you?" Bella's cold gaze and voice startled Debra.
Debra quickly walked behind Sterling and wrapped her arms around his neck, whining, "Sterling, Bella's scaring me! You gotta stand up for me."
Sterling put out his cigarette and said lightly, "Debra, go to the guest room."
Debra's face lit up with joy. "Did you hear that? Sterling wants you to go to the guest room. Wait, I'm going to the guest room?"
Debra pointed at herself, thinking she misheard. Sterling removed Debra's hands from his neck and nodded lightly. "You heard me right. Tonight, you stay in the guest room."
Debra knew she lost again and reluctantly left.
As she passed the door, Debra deliberately bumped into Bella.
"Mr. and Mrs. Windsor, I'll be going now." Owen closed the door and left.
Bella opened the window to let in some fresh air. The smell of smoke in the room made her feel sick, and she felt like her cold was coming back.
Behind Bella, Sterling suddenly spoke, "Isn't the first man unforgettable?"
Bella's hand froze in mid-air.
Sterling stayed silent, like he was waiting for Bella to give him an answer.
"I don't wanna talk about it anymore. Now, I am your wife," Bella didn't answer directly, dodging his question. But that answer clearly didn't satisfy Sterling.
Sterling stood up from his chair in anger and roared, "Do you think I can forgive James this way? When he gets back from abroad, I'll make you both feel my wrath!"
Bella looked up at Sterling in shock. He was actually gonna let James come back?
