Chapter 398 Indifferent Meeting
Isadora's next words threw Bella for a loop: "Hey, you think that Rolls-Royce we saw this morning could be your husband's? I mean, who else would order that many desserts at once besides a boss treating their team?"
Isadora's comment was like a stone tossed into Bella's calm pond, stirring up surprise, doubt, and a touch of anxiety.
Could Sterling really be here?
Bella tried to keep her cool. One big order didn't prove anything. It could just be a coincidence, and maybe the Rolls-Royce had nothing to do with Sterling. She didn't want this speculation to mess with her work or her life.
"Who knows, maybe some company boss was just feeling generous and decided to treat their employees," Bella replied nonchalantly.
But desserts with American coffee—that's Sterling's thing. Only he would make that combo. A hundred servings? That's gonna be a lot of work.
Still, Bella knew better than anyone that turning down money was a bad idea. She quickly tied on her apron, her eyes sparkling with determination, and asked, "When do they need these desserts and coffee? If they want regular delivery, I'll head over right now."
Isadora chuckled at Bella's enthusiasm: "No rush, they said by 4 PM. You've got plenty of time, no need to overdo it."
Bella nodded, but her resolve didn't waver. She took a deep breath and seriously told Isadora, "One more thing, Sterling is just Sterling, don't call him my husband! Our relationship is way more complicated than you think. I don't want this to cause any trouble for you."
Isadora's face turned serious. She got the message and felt the firmness in Bella's tone. She nodded in understanding: "Got it, Bella. I won't say anything, don't worry."
With that, they both got to work. Bella threw herself into making the desserts, aiming for perfection with every step. She knew this order wasn't just about the shop's business but also about her own pride and dignity. She wanted to prove her worth with her own hands, not letting anyone look down on her.
Meanwhile, Isadora helped with packing and preparing the coffee.
In the afternoon, as the sunlight slanted into the small shop, Bella finally completed a hundred exquisite and delicious desserts.
At the same time, Serafina, with the help of other employees, efficiently prepared the American coffee.
Given the size of the order, one person couldn't handle the delivery alone. With limited staff, they decided to pause other afternoon business and focus entirely on delivering the hundred servings of desserts and coffee.
Isadora initially planned to handle the delivery with other staff, not intending for Bella to join, considering she had already spent the whole day making desserts, which was exhausting.
However, Bella insisted on going along, her eyes showing an indescribable determination.
Bella changed into comfortable clothes, put on a hat, and dressed herself professionally yet friendly. She wanted to know if Sterling, who had once caused her heartache and confusion, was really here.
A group of them set out, crossing bustling streets, and arrived at the office building across the way. The building's doors were wide open, with people coming and going, a busy scene. They carefully carried the heavy desserts and coffee into the building, following the instructions on the order, and reached the floor of the financial company.
Standing at the company reception, ready to hand over the desserts and coffee, Bella's heart raced. She nervously looked around, hoping to catch a glimpse of that familiar figure.
However, the receptionist politely accepted the desserts and coffee without mentioning anything related to Sterling.
Bella felt a twinge of disappointment but quickly adjusted her emotions. She reminded herself that this was just a regular business transaction, nothing to overthink. She smiled and said goodbye to the staff.
As they were about to leave the building, someone suddenly shouted from the entrance: "Can't fit it all, bring it inside! Boss lady, take what you're holding to the office."
The term "boss lady" made Bella's face darken instantly. She wasn't sure if the person was really calling her, but the title made her uncomfortable. Her relationship with Sterling was already complicated, and this title only tied her to him more tightly.
Despite her displeasure, Bella chose to remain silent. She didn't voice any objections or show any dissatisfaction.
She knew that any drastic action in this situation could cause unnecessary trouble.
So, she obediently picked up the desserts and coffee and followed the instructions to the designated office.
The person who had called out was polite to Bella, though he didn't offer to help carry anything. He nodded and smiled obsequiously all the way.
This attitude made Bella even more uncomfortable, feeling like she was being treated as someone to be flattered.
When Bella reached the office door, the guide turned and left, leaving her alone to face the unlocked door.
With both hands full, she couldn't open the door, so she kicked it open in a hurry.
The door wasn't locked and opened with a loud noise.
At that moment, Bella's gaze locked onto Sterling, sitting at his desk.
He was focused on his documents, looking serious and detached, as if the whole world was irrelevant to him, an image of aloofness.
Bella finally confirmed that Sterling was indeed here, so close yet seemingly unreachable.
She tried to keep her emotions in check, not looking at Sterling more than necessary, and gently placed the desserts and coffee on his desk: "Your desserts and coffee, enjoy."
Bella's voice was calm and indifferent, as if she were just completing a task, without any extra emotion.
Sterling looked up, his eyes meeting Bella's. A flicker of surprise crossed his face but quickly returned to calm. He nodded: "Thank you." His voice was deep and magnetic, with a hint of subtle detachment.
Seeing that Sterling didn't call her back, Bella quickly left the office, feeling both relieved and puzzled.
