Chapter 317 He Told Me
Mira looked at Bella, her eyes a swirl of emotions. She knew the rift between them wouldn't heal overnight, but she had to try. "Bella, I know you're still mad at me. But I miss you, and I want to make things right."
Bella listened, feeling a mix of emotions herself. She wanted to forgive, but the hurt was still fresh. She took a deep breath. "Mira, let's leave the past where it is. We both have our own lives now. Let's not get in each other's way."
Mira took the takeout but didn't close the door right away. Instead, she offered, "Bella, come in and sit for a bit. Let's talk."
Bella was a bit surprised, then shook her head. "No, I have a lot to do at the shop. Did you order because you like our desserts, or is there another reason?"
Bella's eyes showed a hint of curiosity, trying to figure out Mira's true intentions.
Mira sighed softly, her eyes reflecting a mix of emotions. "Honestly, it wasn't just about the desserts. I wanted a chance to see you and talk face-to-face."
Bella felt a surge of emotions she couldn't quite explain. She knew she couldn't avoid this forever. So, she nodded, deciding to give Mira—and herself—a chance.
"Alright, I'll give you ten minutes," Bella said, her tone a mix of compromise and resignation.
Mira's face lit up with gratitude. She quickly stepped aside to let Bella in and then closed the door.
The room was cozy and elegant, with a faint fragrance in the air. Bella found a spot by the window and sat down.
Ten minutes flew by. Bella stood up, ready to leave. She looked at Mira, her tone firm and resolute. "Mira, let's leave the past in the past. We both have our own lives now. Please respect my choice and my life."
With that, Bella turned and left the room.
Mira watched Bella walk away, feeling a wave of panic. She quickly spoke, her voice tinged with urgency and confusion. "Bella, what do you mean by this? Do you think I have some hidden agenda? Please, don't be so hostile. I know you don't want to be disturbed, but as your mother, I need to know you're okay. That's all I came for."
Mira paused, her tone pleading. "I ordered again because I really do love your desserts. And I'm leaving for Harborvale tomorrow. Does that help?"
Bella stopped and turned around, her gaze calm but deep. She could sense Mira's sincerity in her words, but the scars inside her hadn't healed.
"Mira, it's not that I'm hostile. It's just that past experiences make it hard for me to trust. You showing up here, at my shop, caught me off guard. It's hard for me to accept."
Bella spoke, her voice calm and firm, each word carrying weight.
Mira took a deep breath and continued, "I get it, as your mom, it's natural for me to care."
Mira listened to Bella's words, her eyes reflecting a mix of emotions. She knew her past actions had deeply hurt Bella, and it wouldn't be easy to repair. But she couldn't help but say, "Bella, I know I messed up a lot before, but I'm trying to make things right. Can you give me a chance to start over?"
Bella looked at Mira, her eyes showing a hint of hesitation. She could feel Mira's longing, but the scars inside her made it hard to let go.
"Mira, let's leave the past where it is. We both have our own lives now. Let's not get in each other's way."
Bella looked at Mira, her eyes reflecting a mix of emotions, and finally couldn't help but ask, "Are you sure no one else asked you to come see me besides Sterling?"
Mira looked at Bella, her eyes showing a hint of guilt. She lowered her head slightly, her voice carrying a hint of resignation, "You got me. Before coming here, I did meet with Sterling. He told me you were here, but he said he wouldn't come looking for you. You can relax."
Hearing this, Bella's heart sank. Although she had anticipated Sterling knowing her whereabouts, hearing it from Mira still made her uncomfortable. She felt like a kite, no matter how high or far she flew, the string was still tightly held in Sterling's hand.
Bella took a deep breath, trying to calm her emotions, "What does it matter if Sterling knows I'm here? Why does he still want to interfere in my life? It's over between us. I hope he can respect my choice."
Mira looked at Bella, her eyes showing a hint of concern. "Bella, I know things between you and Sterling are complicated, but I hope you can handle it calmly. Sterling still cares about you."
Bella stood at the door, her thoughts in turmoil. She took a deep breath, trying to stabilize her emotions, then turned to Mira and said, "When you go back, please tell him I don't want to be his kite anymore. Ask him to let go of the string. That's the life I want, even if it means getting hurt, even if it means breaking into pieces. My life has nothing to do with him anymore."
Bella's voice was firm and powerful, her eyes shining with determination and resolve. It was as if she was telling herself and Mira that she had made her decision and wouldn't look back.
Mira looked at Bella, her eyes reflecting a mix of emotions. She knew Bella was determined to sever ties with Sterling completely. Though she felt worried, she also knew it was Bella's choice, and she couldn't interfere.
"Alright, Bella. I'll pass the message to Sterling," Mira said, her voice hinting at resignation and compromise.
Mira looked at Bella, her eyes showing a hint of hesitation and curiosity. She tentatively asked, "What happened between you two? I know you might think it's unnecessary for me to know, but I'm just curious. You two seemed to be moving in a good direction, but why did you suddenly choose to leave and have no connection with him anymore?"
