Chapter 29 Twisted Marriage

Bella didn't spot Felix until her shift was almost over. She figured he had bailed, but then her coworkers spilled the tea: Felix got his ass handed to him in the restroom and was already at the hospital.

"Serves him right. Felix is always using his position to mess with young girls. Bet he got what was coming from one of their friends or family," someone snickered behind his back.

"Hope the guy who beat him doesn't get caught. Heard the cameras were conveniently busted, so Felix is just outta luck," another colleague chimed in.

Bella didn't dwell on it much, but she was stoked that Felix wouldn't be bugging her for a while.

Thinking about the peace she'd have for the next few days, Bella felt a bit lighter and even had a spring in her step.

But just as she was about to bounce, the security guard stopped her.

"Ms. Grey, some lady asked me to give this to you," he said, handing her a business card.

The name on the card was Mira Morris. Bella was sure she didn't know anyone by that name.

After thanking the guard, Bella dialed the number on the card. A woman answered, and from her voice, Bella guessed Mira was middle-aged.

"Hello, is that Ms. Morris? This is Bella. What can I do for you?" Bella asked politely, thinking Mira might be a client looking for a fashion designer.

Mira's snooty voice came through the line. "Are you Bella? Good, I haven't gone far. I'm at a nearby café. Let's meet there."

Mira hung up before Bella could even respond. Bella frowned but still headed to the café.

In the café, a waiter led Bella to Mira, but she only saw her back. When Bella got closer and was about to speak, she saw Mira's face and froze.

Mira was a middle-aged woman who must have been a knockout in her younger days. Bella froze not because of her looks but because she recognized this woman, who had once been her nightmare.

"You must be Bella. Let me introduce myself. I'm Debra's mom. So, how much will it take for you to leave Sterling?" Mira said arrogantly, crossing her arms.

Bella sat down across from Mira, their eyes locked.

"Don't you recognize me?" Bella suddenly asked.

Mira looked at Bella, puzzled, feeling a weird sense of déjà vu.

"I know you. You're Sterling's wife. But you know Sterling loves my daughter Debra the most. I don't know how you tricked him into marrying you, but now that Sterling has found his true love, you should let go," Mira said to Bella.

But Bella kept staring at Mira's face without saying a word, her eyes burning with anger and hatred, emotions so intense they made Mira squirm.

"Why are you looking at me like that? Am I wrong?" Mira snapped at Bella.

Bella suddenly laughed, tears welling up in her eyes. "You want me to ditch my husband and divorce him? Just like you did back then."

As soon as Bella finished talking, Mira's face went pale.

Mira stared at Bella, speechless, like Bella had just unearthed her darkest secret.

"You're still the same, all high and mighty. Go check my identity; it might blow your mind," Bella said with a cold smirk, giving Mira a pat on the shoulder before strutting out of the café.

Watching Bella leave, a horrifying thought hit Mira. She fumbled for her phone and called someone to dig into Bella's background.

Bella's identity wasn't hard to uncover. News from three years ago popped up quickly. When the info was laid out in front of Mira, she was on the brink of losing it.

Bella was the daughter she had ditched years ago!

Bella got back to Windsor Villa, her good mood from Felix's beatdown totally ruined by Mira's appearance.

After dinner, Bella headed to Sterling's bedroom.

The room had fresh bedding, and the air was filled with a light floral scent.

"Help me dry my hair," Sterling said, handing Bella a hairdryer as he walked out of the bathroom.

Bella didn't argue and started drying Sterling's hair.

Her touch was gentle, and the hairdryer made barely any noise.

As Sterling enjoyed Bella's care, her voice suddenly broke the silence.

"When can we get a divorce?" Bella asked, noticing Sterling's body tense up.

"Why are you asking that? Still hung up on James?" Sterling turned around, his eyes piercing into Bella.

Bella frowned. "It's not about James. You have Debra now. If you divorce me, she can marry you."

"You think I love Debra?" Sterling scoffed.

Bella's lips twisted into a bitter smile. "Am I wrong? You never let other women near you. Debra can cling to you. Don't you love her?"

Sterling's face turned icy. He realized Bella didn't get him at all.

"And why do you keep me around? My dad killed your family. You keep me here just for revenge. Why risk your marriage on it?" Bella's words were barely out when Sterling grabbed her by the neck and shoved her onto the bed.

"You think I keep you around for revenge?" Sterling's bottled-up emotions were about to explode.

Bella looked at Sterling, a tear slipping down her cheek. "Am I wrong?"

"Right, absolutely right. Since it's revenge, let's do what I should do!" Sterling suddenly lowered his head and kissed Bella roughly, tearing at her clothes.

Bella was shocked and pushed Sterling away with all her might.

She tried to run but tripped on her skirt, her knee hitting the floor hard, scraping the skin, and blood staining her skirt.

Sterling instinctively wanted to help her up, but seeing her terrified expression, he felt a surge of anger.

"Zoey, help Bella with her wound!" Sterling yelled towards the door, then grabbed his clothes and stormed out of the bedroom.
