Chapter 454 His Apology
Bella now hates herself for not being heartless enough, for not being able to stand seeing Sterling humble himself before her like that.
She brought all of this on herself!
At the beach, the sunset's glow scattered across the golden sand. Anna and Colin had finished their surfing experience and were lounging comfortably on beach chairs, flirting with each other without a care in the world, as if they were the only two people left on earth.
Just then, Bella approached from a distance with a gloomy expression. Her steps seemed heavy, and her eyes revealed a hint of displeasure.
Seeing this, Anna immediately sat up from her beach chair and moved closer with a playful smile: "What's wrong? Where's Sterling? Why didn't he come back with you?"
Hearing Anna mention Sterling, the dissatisfaction in Bella's heart surged even more. She replied irritably: "Who knows where he went! So annoying, can't even let me have peace of mind when we're out having fun."
Anna's face flashed with surprise. She hadn't expected the two to be at odds again: "Did you guys fight again? Weren't you having a great time just now? How did things change so quickly? You two are like sworn enemies, but don't worry, I'm here. Come on, I'll take you to do something exciting that'll make you forget all your troubles."
What Anna meant by "something exciting" was the towering water slide that twisted down like a giant dragon. Looking down from above, you could see rafts tumbling through the rapids, accompanied by visitors' screams and cheers. It looked incredibly thrilling.
Bella shook her head repeatedly. Such an intense ride really wasn't for her. She valued her life and didn't want to risk it.
"I'm not going! You go with Colin. I'm afraid of heights." Bella was afraid of heights, let alone in the mood to enjoy thrilling fun right now.
Anna's eyes flashed with disappointment, but since Bella didn't dare to go, she couldn't force her.
Anna could only gently pat Bella's shoulder: "Alright, since you don't want to go, just rest here for a bit. Colin and I will go for a round, and we'll come find you later."
With that, Anna turned around, took Colin's hand, and the two walked together toward the water slide entrance.
When Sterling came back, he spotted Bella from far away, sitting quietly on a beach chair, lost in thought.
He walked quickly up to Bella, carrying a plastic bag with a pharmacy logo printed on it.
Inside the bag was medicine he had specifically gone back to the city to buy. Besides the medicine, he had thoughtfully prepared a bottle of room-temperature mineral water.
When Sterling gave the plastic bag and water to Bella, he didn't get even a hint of a pleasant expression from her.
Bella still had a gloomy face, her eyes revealing displeasure and coldness. Seeing this, Sterling couldn't help but feel a wave of disappointment and helplessness. But he understood that this time, he was truly in the wrong.
Sterling let out a soft sigh, placed the plastic bag on the table next to the beach chair, then sat down beside Bella without saying anything. Of course, he knew Bella was angry.
Bella glanced at Sterling, her eyes still carrying a hint of wariness and coldness. She didn't want to talk to him, but she also wouldn't joke around with her own health.
Bella silently picked up the medicine and mineral water from the table. She didn't want to experience that tearing, heart-wrenching pain again.
Bella took the medicine Sterling had bought and silently returned to the changing room. She carefully took the medication according to the instructions.
Then she went to the public bathroom, turned on the tap, let the cool water flow over her body, and gave herself a simple shower.
After showering, she changed back into simple casual clothes. She felt much more relaxed, but she didn't want to go back into the water park, so she found a quiet bubble tea shop. Sitting under the air conditioning, she instantly felt much cooler.
Just then, Sterling pushed the door open. His gaze searched around the shop and finally settled on Bella.
Sterling walked straight over and sat down across from her. Bella glanced at him, her eyes full of coldness and distance, as if he were just a stranger.
Sterling sensed Bella's coldness, but he didn't mind. He let out a soft sigh, then said, "Bella, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have been so impulsive. I hope you can give me a chance to make it up to you."
Hearing this, Bella didn't respond immediately. She lowered her head and continued sipping her bubble tea, as if she hadn't heard Sterling's words at all.
After a long while, the fierce anger that had been burning in Bella's heart began to waver in the face of Sterling's sincere apology.
She straightened up, lifted her gaze from the rim of her bubble tea cup, and looked at Sterling with a hint of barely noticeable complex emotion in her tone: "You're not wrong. Everything you do is right. You're Sterling—you can do whatever you want. Who can stop you? Who can do anything to you?"
Hearing this, a flash of pain crossed Sterling's eyes. He took a shallow breath, as if trying to calm his emotions, then looked at Bella with intense eyes: "It won't happen again."
Sterling's voice was low and powerful, each word seeming to be a promise from the depths of his heart.
Listening to his words, the firm anger in Bella's heart slowly began to dissipate, replaced by complicated emotions.
Bella remained silent, not speaking, not daring to look at him. Her mind was a bit chaotic because she had never imagined that one day he would be the first to back down.
She didn't know whether she should believe Sterling's words. After all, his previous behavior had already made her lose basic trust in him.
Around 5 PM, the sunlight was no longer intense, and the four of them drove back to the city center together.
Anna excitedly suggested they go out for dinner together that evening to have a proper gathering, so she didn't let Bella go home. Instead, she dragged her along to the hotel where Sterling and Colin were temporarily staying.
After arriving at the hotel, the four tidied up a bit, preparing for the evening dinner. Sterling and Colin's rooms were next to each other. For convenience, everyone decided to rest in the rooms first and go out once it got completely dark.
Originally, Bella had planned to stick with Colin and Anna, but what she hadn't expected was that Colin and Anna were constantly showing off their relationship, making her feel hurt at every turn.
Watching them being so loving and sweet, Bella felt somewhat out of place on the side, even starting to feel like she was unnecessary.
To avoid continuing to be "tortured," Bella could only temporarily go to Sterling's room. Although the relationship between her and Sterling was still somewhat delicate, at least in his room, she didn't have to watch them being romantic.
Sterling's room was simple and spacious, with a fresh atmosphere. As soon as Bella entered, she consciously sat on the sofa, trying not to disturb Sterling.
Sterling also seemed to sense something and didn't disturb her too much. He just silently poured her a cup of warm water and placed it in front of her.
