Chapter 425 Embarrassment
After she finished talking, Bella hung up the phone without a second thought, not giving Ryan any chance to argue.
Bella walked over to Sterling and noticed that, despite being drunk, he had at least managed to put on some clothes. This way, when Ryan arrived, the situation wouldn't be too embarrassing.
Standing quietly by the door, Bella waited for Ryan to show up. She looked at Sterling's sleeping face, feeling a mix of emotions. She couldn't understand why Sterling had suddenly done something like this, nor why he was being so heartless towards her.
It wasn't long before Ryan arrived. He pushed open the door and frowned at the scene before him. But he quickly understood Bella's intention and walked over to try to wake Sterling.
Bella stood at the door, watching Ryan calmly, with a hint of reproach in her voice. "Next time he gets drunk, don't let him run around."
Her eyes showed her dissatisfaction with Sterling's behavior, and she hoped Ryan, as someone close to Sterling, could take better care of and restrain him.
Ryan looked slightly embarrassed and lowered his head a bit, replying helplessly, "Mr. Windsor goes wherever he wants. It's not like I can control him..."
Bella understood a bit more after hearing Ryan's words. She knew that as Mr. Windsor of the Windsor family, Sterling had a prestigious status and freedom of action. Ryan, as his driver, indeed had a hard time restraining him.
So, she didn't make things difficult for Ryan anymore. She just stood at the door, quietly waiting for Ryan to take Sterling away.
Finally, Ryan managed to get Sterling into the car, and it slowly drove off. Bella watched them leave, letting out a long sigh, as if releasing all the frustration and dissatisfaction in her heart.
Bella closed the door, went back to her bedroom, lay down on the bed, and closed her eyes, trying to fall asleep quickly.
However, despite her efforts to calm down, the frustration and unease in her heart were hard to dispel. It felt like she had experienced a bad dream, filled with humiliation, anger, and helplessness.
Bella wanted to forget everything, but those memories were deeply etched in her heart, making it hard to let go.
She tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep. She knew she needed time to heal from this painful past. How long would it take for her to recover from the shock Sterling had given her tonight?
To make matters worse, in the chaos of last night, Bella had accidentally dropped her phone, cracking the screen with two noticeable lines. Although it still worked, it was quite disheartening to look at. She sighed, thinking this must be what they call "when it rains, it pours."
Meanwhile, elsewhere, Sterling slowly woke up in the luxurious bed of his hotel suite. The headache from his hangover made him frown, and he called out softly, "Ryan."
Ryan, who had been keeping watch on the couch in the living room all night, immediately stood up and quickly walked to the bedroom door, asking with concern, "Mr. Windsor, you're awake?" His voice carried a hint of fatigue.
Sterling sat up, shaking his still-groggy head, trying to clear his mind. He ordered, "Get me a glass of water."
Ryan quickly turned to get a glass of water and carefully handed it to Sterling. Sterling took the glass and drank it all in one go, then wiped his mouth with his hand and asked, "By the way, how much did I drink last night? I didn't do anything stupid, did I?"
Ryan's heart tightened at Sterling's question. He knew Sterling's behavior last night had been beyond his expectations, but he also knew that Sterling didn't want to hear any unpleasant news at this moment.
So, he answered cautiously, "Mr. Windsor, you drank quite a bit last night, but I don't know exactly how much. As for whether you did anything you shouldn't have..."
Ryan hesitated for a moment but decided to tell the truth. "Mr. Windsor, you insisted on going to Mrs. Windsor's place last night, and I couldn't stop you. Later, Mrs. Windsor called me to take you back, saying if I didn't come, she'd leave you on the street."
Hearing Ryan's confirmation, Sterling was struck dumb, as if hit by an invisible lightning bolt. His mind went blank, unable to imagine that he had done something so absurd last night.
Sterling tried hard to recall every detail of the previous night, but his memory was shrouded in a thick fog, unclear. He only remembered drinking a lot, and then everything was a blank.
Sterling couldn't imagine how he had found Bella, let alone what he had done after finding her.
Seeing Sterling's changing expressions, Ryan knew he was struggling with intense regret and remorse. He quickly clarified his position, "It's not that I didn't try to stop you, but you were unstoppable! Mr. Windsor, when you're drunk, your strength is terrifying. Who could hold you back? Ask Mr. Rivera and Micah if you don't believe me. When you're drunk and acting up, you're like a wild horse. Unless we knock you out, there's no way to control you!"
Sterling closed his eyes in frustration, taking a deep breath to calm his inner turmoil. He opened his eyes, a determined look in them. "Next time, just knock me out."
Then, Sterling suddenly remembered something, his expression growing more serious. "I didn't do anything to her, did I?"
His voice trembled slightly, clearly worried that his actions last night might have caused irreparable harm to Bella.
Ryan tried to recall the scene when he went to pick up Sterling from Bella's place, his brow furrowed, unsure of the situation. He spoke slowly, with a hint of uncertainty, "I'm not sure. When I got there, you weren't wearing any clothes, just lying on the couch, sleeping deeply. Mrs. Windsor's face didn't look good at all, like she wanted to tear you apart. So, it's possible something did happen."
Hearing this, Sterling's face turned ashen. Not wearing any clothes? That could mean anything might have happened.
But he couldn't remember any details, not even if he had eaten anything. So, was this embarrassment worth it or not?
Sterling asked himself in a low voice, his tone filled with self-mockery and helplessness.
The morning passed quietly. Isadora, as usual, walked to the office building but didn't see Sterling's familiar car. She couldn't help but feel a bit puzzled and turned to Bella beside her, saying, "Bella, it looks like your husband didn't come to the office today. I didn't see his car."
Bella's expression changed slightly but quickly returned to calm. She snorted, her tone carrying a hint of disdain, "He's probably too hungover to get up."
