Chapter 237 A Perfect Plan
Caleb didn't even notice his own injuries; he was too busy worrying about Anna. "What were you thinking? You were so lost in thought you didn't even see the car coming."
Anna couldn't admit she was thinking about what he had said that morning. She replied, "Can you walk if I help you up?"
Anna supported Caleb's arm, but he suddenly winced in pain, his face turning pale. Anna panicked, "I'll call 911."
As she observed Caleb, Anna quickly took out her phone and dialed 911. Soon, Caleb was taken to the hospital.
Anna paced anxiously outside the emergency room when Bella called her.
Before Bella could say anything, Anna spoke with a tearful voice, "What should I do? Caleb... he's hurt."
Bella's voice immediately rose several notches, "What? What happened?"
"Caleb was in a car accident. Well, not exactly. He got hurt saving me. Anyway, he's in the emergency room at the hospital," Anna said, her words tumbling out in a rush.
Bella tried to calm her down, "Don't worry. Do you need me to come over and be with you?"
Anna quickly replied, "No, you're still recovering. Your health isn't great, so don't trouble yourself."
After hearing the details from Anna, Bella went to find Sterling. Sterling was in his study, looking over some documents when Bella walked in. "Sterling, did you know Caleb was in a car accident?"
Sterling looked up at Bella, momentarily stunned. Then he said, "A car accident? He hasn't seen me in agony yet, nor has he seen the Windsor family go bankrupt. How could he be in a car accident?"
Bella immediately asked, "Do you mean he's lying to Anna?"
Sterling shook his head and then shared his thoughts, "I don't know if he's lying to Anna, but given Caleb's personality, he wouldn't let himself get hurt unless he had an ulterior motive."
Bella responded, "Then I'll call Anna right away and tell her not to be fooled by Caleb."
Sterling quickly stopped Bella, "Bella, don't tell Anna our suspicions just yet."
Bella looked at him, confused, "Why not?"
Sterling got up and walked over to Bella, guiding her to sit on the couch.
He spoke seriously, "We don't know what Caleb might do next. If you tell Anna now, it will only make her more distressed and might push Caleb to take more drastic measures, possibly even hurting Anna."
Sterling was actually considering Caleb's threat. If Caleb released Bella's photos, everything would be irreparable.
Sterling was trying to come up with a foolproof plan.
Knowing the truth might make things more complicated for Anna, so he had to interrupt Bella's intention to inform her.
But Bella was clearly struggling to accept this, "He's deceiving Anna right now. How can I just stand by and watch her be tricked by him?"
Sterling patiently reassured her, "Don't worry, we won't let him deceive Anna. We'll resolve all the issues before anything happens. Just leave it to us, okay?"
Bella felt frustrated, "So I can't say anything?"
Sterling gently stroked Bella's face, "You can tell Anna that Caleb is the Windsor family's illegitimate child, but don't mention what Caleb has done to the Powell family."
This was part of Caleb's threat, so Sterling had to be half-truthful with Bella.
Bella suppressed her frustration and reluctantly agreed. Then she asked, "What about Caleb wanting the Powell family's dock? How do we handle that?"
"He doesn't have enough cash flow right now to take over such a large dock. He might try to get Anna to transfer it to him or give it to him," Sterling explained honestly.
"What? Anna would never transfer the dock to him," Bella said, incredulous.
"Exactly. How could Anna willingly transfer the dock to him?" Sterling muttered to himself.
Caleb had already given up hope of Anna giving him the dock.
Now Caleb was threatening Sterling, wanting him to buy the dock and give it to him as a wedding gift, which was absurd.
Bella thought for a moment, wondering if Caleb intended to get Anna pregnant.
No, pregnancy would take too long and might not succeed. The quickest way would be for him to marry Anna.
Bella was startled by her own thoughts and quickly said, "No way, Anna wouldn't marry Caleb."
Sterling replied, "I know. He won't easily marry Anna, and Colin wouldn't allow Anna to marry Caleb either."
Bella now understood that Colin probably had feelings for Anna.
But given the current situation, if Caleb continued to deceive Anna, her soft-hearted nature would likely lead her to fall for him quickly.
"Bella, you have to trust Anna. She's not someone who would easily fall for a scam. Don't you know her well?" Sterling reassured her.
Bella nodded. Anna's greatest strength was her kindness, but her biggest weakness was also her kindness. Whether it was towards an ex or someone else, she was always easily swayed.
Especially after hearing about Caleb saving her tonight, which might be part of Caleb's plan to win Anna's sympathy. Bella still felt uneasy.
Sterling had to comfort her, at least for now, she couldn't tell Anna about Caleb's actions. He needed to come up with a foolproof plan that would prevent Caleb from releasing the photos and reveal Caleb's true nature to Anna.
Sterling thought he might use Anna to gather evidence against Caleb, but Colin would likely oppose this plan.
Sterling finally managed to calm Bella down and sent her to her room to rest. "Don't worry, everything is under control."
Bella had no choice but to trust Sterling.
Meanwhile, in the hospital room, Caleb's arm was in a cast and hung across his chest, with a few scrapes on his leg.
Anna stood by the bed, her face full of guilt. "I'm sorry. If it weren't for saving me, you wouldn't be like this."
Caleb smiled, "Silly, of course I had to save you. It's just a fracture, it'll heal soon. Don't worry."
Anna had intended to say some rejecting words to him, but now she couldn't bring herself to do it. She said, "Rest well. I'll come see you tomorrow."
Caleb grabbed Anna's hand, "Anna, you know I don't have any family here. Can you take care of me while I'm in the hospital?"
Anna thought for a moment and said, "Okay, I understand."
Caleb then let go, having achieved his goal. He watched her leave the room, his face immediately darkening.
He took out his phone and made a call, "Clean up the car and everything else."
The next day, Colin received news that Anna had taken leave and immediately called her.
