Chapter 305 Caleb's Entanglement
Anna had made up her mind. She was leaving this city to start a new life.
The car drove in silence for a while before finally stopping in front of a mansion.
Caleb got out and opened the door for Anna, smiling as he invited her inside.
This was the Powell Mansion, the place where she had grown up.
Anna knew that tonight, she had to settle things with Caleb once and for all. No matter the outcome, she had to face it bravely.
And in the process, she had to learn to protect herself, to not let the pain of the past repeat itself.
Clutching the car door handle tightly, her eyes filled with wariness and confusion, she looked at the house that had once been hers, now belonging to Caleb. Her emotions were a tangled mess.
"Why'd you bring me here? This is your house now, right? Weren't we supposed to have dinner? What's the deal?" Her voice carried a hint of anger and unease.
Caleb turned to her, his gaze gentle but firm. "I bought this house for you. You grew up here, and it holds a lot of your memories. I thought you'd appreciate having dinner here. No need to be so tense."
Despite his explanation, Anna's guard remained up.
She knew Caleb's cunning ways and couldn't easily trust his intentions.
"If we're having dinner, let's go to a restaurant. I don't want to be alone with you!" she refused firmly, her eyes full of resistance.
Caleb sighed softly, his tone becoming more sincere. "Anna, I know you're still mad at me, but please believe me. I genuinely want to talk things out this time. I promise, once we're inside, I won't do anything to you. I just hope you'll give me a chance to start over."
Anna was silent for a moment, her inner turmoil evident.
She knew that avoiding the issue wouldn't solve anything, but facing Caleb filled her with fear and anxiety.
Finally, she took a deep breath and stepped out of the car. She knew that no matter what happened, she had to face it bravely.
This time, she would fight for her dignity and freedom.
Anna followed Caleb into the familiar house, each step taken with caution, afraid of stirring up buried memories and pain.
But as she stepped inside, she realized everything had changed.
Caleb's expression turned colder, his tone more commanding. "My patience is limited. If I wanted to do something to you, I would have done it in the car. You wouldn't have been able to stop me. Stop wasting time and come inside."
Anna knew that continuing to resist was pointless. She gritted her teeth, suppressing her fear and unease, and followed Caleb inside.
The house was exactly as she remembered it.
The decor, the furniture, even the small ornaments, all held pieces of her past.
The familiar surroundings made her feel disoriented, as if she had traveled back to a carefree time.
But Anna knew that those days were gone. She was no longer the naive girl she once was, and Caleb was no longer the man she had loved.
Caleb watched Anna's silence, feeling a sense of satisfaction. He knew he had played his cards right. Choosing this place would make Anna lower her guard.
He believed that with enough time and space, he could win her back.
"Anna, have a seat. I'll get you some water," Caleb said with a smile, heading to the kitchen.
Anna sat on the couch, her eyes wandering around the room.
She tried to stay calm, but the fear and unease inside her were overwhelming. She knew she couldn't easily give in to Caleb.
But facing his dominance and cunning, she felt powerless.
She didn't know if she could escape this shadow and start anew.
The housekeeper had prepared a feast, each dish looking and smelling delicious.
The aroma brought back memories of happier times with her family.
But reality was harsh. The man she had once loved, Caleb, now brought her back to this place as its owner.
Caleb hugged her from behind, guiding her to the dining table. She tried to break free, but his grip was too strong.
She felt humiliated and angry, yet helpless.
The housekeeper, seeing their closeness, smiled, thinking they were a couple. But Anna's inner turmoil was hidden from everyone.
Caleb told the housekeeper, "You can go home now. Come back tomorrow."
Caleb didn't like having strangers in the house, so the housekeeper didn't live there. She nodded, gathered her things, and left.
With just the two of them left, the atmosphere grew tense and awkward.
Anna kept her head down, avoiding Caleb's gaze, afraid of losing her dignity and courage.
"Anna, I know you're still mad at me, but please believe me. I truly want to make things right," Caleb broke the silence, his voice sincere and gentle.
But Anna no longer believed his words. She looked up, her gaze firm.
"Caleb, it's over between us. No matter what you do, I won't come back. I hope you respect my choice and let us both move on."
Caleb listened, a mix of disappointment and anger in his eyes.
But he didn't force her. He quietly returned to his seat.
They ate in silence, the meal heavy with tension. Anna knew she had to leave and start over. Caleb needed to face the consequences of his actions.
After the housekeeper left, the house was silent, just Anna and Caleb. Anna nervously clutched her clothes, filled with unease.
"What do you want from me?" she asked, her voice trembling with helplessness and despair.
Caleb sat beside her, serving her favorite dishes, looking at her with genuine eyes. "I want to treat you well, like you used to treat me. If you want, I can transfer this house to you."
But Anna wasn't moved. She laughed bitterly, her eyes cold and distant. "I don't need that. All I want is for you to leave my life forever."
Caleb's face darkened.
He hadn't expected Anna to be so resolute.
