Chapter 96 Ask Him for Money
Bella was desperate to blow off some steam.
She didn't have anyone to vent to except Anna. Clutching Sunny, she sat on the swing in the yard.
Recently, all her emotional support was centered on Sunny, and it seemed that apart from Sunny, she couldn't muster any interest in anything else.
So when Anna showed up, she found Bella holding the cat, staring off into space on the swing.
Bella looked down a bit and saw Anna at the gate with a cake. She smiled and waved her in.
"How's it going?" she asked, still holding Sunny.
Anna shrugged, "Not bad. You know, my mom's always asking for money, so I'm working extra jobs to keep up."
She didn't bring up the incident with Colin at the bar last time.
Bella listened to Anna talk about her life and felt a pang of envy. It seemed like Anna was living the life a girl should have.
Despite all the struggles, she was living with energy and passion, busy with life.
Bella wished she could be like Anna, but she knew that was a pipe dream.
Seeing the light fade from Bella's eyes, Anna suddenly said, "Why keep talking about me? What about you, Bella? How have you been? Are you unhappy?"
Bella then started to spill about the recent events.
Anna thought for a moment and said, "Bella, no matter what you do, I've got your back."
Bella looked into Anna's eyes and said gratefully, "Anna, you're so kind. Having a friend like you gives me a bit of warmth. Staying with Sterling feels like being a bird trapped in a cage."
Anna gently held Bella's hand and frowned. "Bella, I know you must be unhappy with him. Sterling is so controlling. He keeps you by his side without considering your feelings. Why don't you find a chance to leave him?"
Bella sighed helplessly. "It's not that easy. He controls everything about me. I have no chance to escape. And he warned me that if I tried to run away... Forget it, I don't want to talk about it."
She didn't want to mention that Sterling had threatened her with Anna.
"So, are you planning to stay like this forever?" Anna asked, seeing Bella hesitate to speak.
Bella gave a bitter smile. "I have no choice. Sometimes I feel like my life is devoid of any vitality. Only when I talk to you do I feel alive and can sense a bit of warmth from the outside world, and there's Sunny."
Anna looked at Bella with pity.
"Do you want me to help you think of a way?" Although she was struggling herself, she still wanted to help Bella seeing her so unhappy.
"Let's come up with a plan to get you out of his control," she added.
A glimmer of hope flashed in Bella's eyes. "Really? Anna, would you really help me? But I don't want to drag you into this."
Anna said firmly, "We're friends, right? We should help each other. I can't just watch you being trapped by him."
Bella felt a warm current in her heart after hearing Anna's words. Although she really wanted to devise a thorough plan to escape Sterling's control, she knew it was impossible.
Bella looked at Anna and asked, pretending to be relaxed, "What? You're not scared of him anymore? You're really willing to help me get away from him? Aren't you worried about his revenge?"
Anna's face tightened, and she stubbornly said, "I have nothing to lose now. Why should I be scared?"
But thinking about Sterling's ruthless ways, she realized he might take her out before she could even come up with a plan.
Still, she couldn't stand seeing Bella so unhappy.
Bella chuckled at Anna's conflicted expression and said, "Anna, are you crazy? How could I joke about your life? I'm just venting. Even though I'm stuck with Sterling, he hasn't mistreated me."
Both Anna and Bella sighed together.
Finally, Anna slapped Bella on the shoulder and said, "Alright, since Sterling has you tied to his side, you should exercise your rights as Mrs. Windsor."
Bella didn't get what Anna meant.
Anna added, "Come on, Bella, let's go shopping. But I don't have any money. You should ask Sterling for some money now. Remember, you're Mrs. Windsor. He's loaded; he won't refuse you some pocket money, right?"
Bella thought about it and realized it might work. So she sent a message to Sterling: [Give me some money, I want to go shopping with Anna.]
When Sterling got Bella's message, Debra was right beside him. She saw the smile on Sterling's lips as he checked his phone.
Debra immediately asked, "Sterling, who is it that's making you so happy?"
Sterling's face turned cold again, and he replied, "None of your business. Just do your job."
Debra gritted her teeth in anger at his words.
She knew it must be Bella on the other end. She wondered what Bella had said to Sterling recently to make him smile like that, while all her efforts couldn't even get a smile from him.
Debra wished Bella would drop dead right now, but she still put on a sweet face. "Sterling, I was just asking. Don't be mad. Tomorrow is my birthday. Remember to bring Bella to the party. She was so angry last time. I'll make sure to apologize to her properly tomorrow."
Sterling responded with a grunt and said nothing more.
Bella and Anna huddled together, and when they saw that Sterling had indeed transferred the money, Bella opened it to see a substantial amount.
Bella knew that Sterling's money always came with strings attached. But now she couldn't think about that. Since she had decided to fight Sterling to the end, she might as well spend more of his money while she could.
Anna was surprised by the amount and joked, "My god! Bella? Sterling seems ruthless, but he's quite generous. If he doesn't like you, why does he give you so much money? If he likes you, why is he so harsh, imprisoning and restraining you? What is he thinking?"
Bella sighed. If only she knew what Sterling was thinking.
