Chapter 11 The Unlucky Girl

Thalia's snarky comment had the whole class cracking up.

Bella didn't even flinch at Thalia's jabs. She knew these girls secretly had a thing for Sterling. Who wouldn't? The guy was loaded, good-looking, and had a heart of gold.

But living under the same roof as Sterling? Yeah, Bella wasn't feeling it.

Why did she even sketch Sterling's face? Probably just a knee-jerk reaction to his constant bossing around.

"Bella, seriously, you gonna let Thalia get away with that? She's such a witch," Anna said, rolling her eyes.

Bella just shrugged. "Nah, not worth my time."

To Bella, Thalia was just a joke. No way was she stooping to her level.

After classes wrapped up, Anna bounced over to Bella with an invite to the ice rink that night.

"Ice rink? Are you nuts? It's freezing out. Just flood the yard and skate there. Why blow cash?" Bella said, ruffling Anna's hair, which earned her a playful slap.

Anna scrunched up her nose. "Come on, don't be a buzzkill. The rink's a blast!"

Bella sighed. Crowds weren't her thing. Even handing out flyers for part-time gigs made her jittery.

"Not happening. Gotta get home or my brother will flip," Bella said, stuffing her backpack.

Anna pouted, "Why are you so scared of your brother? Is he Dracula or something?"

Bella tilted her head, picturing Sterling. Yeah, he was drop-dead gorgeous, like a vampire. But nah, he wouldn't bite. His icy vibe, though? That was killer.

"Yeah, he's kinda scary. Better not push it. I'm out. You stay safe, okay?" Bella waved and headed out.

Passing the school bulletin board, Bella saw the announcement for the school's anniversary bash, urging students to sign up for performances. A mysterious guest was also teased.

Bella rolled her eyes. No brainer, the mystery guest must be Sterling, who never missed these things.

'Wait, isn't Sterling supposed to be abroad?' Bella thought, pedaling away.

Suddenly, her bike made a weird noise, and she stopped to check it out.

The chain had snapped.

Bella's bike was a beat-up second-hand deal. The bell was busted, and every part creaked like it was begging for retirement.

With no other choice, Bella started pushing her bike home.

"Should've lubed the chain. Now it's toast," Bella muttered, kicking herself for slacking.

But when she got to the villa, her heart sank.

Sterling was there, waiting at the door.
