Chapter 440 Heartbroken

After all, he really wanted to leave Anna with a special memory.

By ten o'clock, the mall was starting to clear out, and stores were closing one by one. The loudspeaker announced the impending closure, urging folks to finish up their shopping and head out.

Colin had spent the entire evening with Anna, and he was feeling pretty worn out. He sighed softly and said to Anna, "Hey, let's head back to the hotel. It's getting late, and I don't want you to get too tired."

Anna seemed lost in her own thoughts, completely unaware of the time passing. She blinked and looked around, realizing the mall was almost empty.

She finally noticed how late it was. She nodded slightly, her voice tinged with a hint of surprise, "Is it really that late? Okay, let's go back."

Colin felt a wave of relief wash over him as she agreed. A smile of ease spread across his face. He gently put his arm around Anna's shoulder, pulling her close. "Tomorrow, I'll spend the whole day with you. I've already arranged it with Sterling, so we have the day free to do whatever you want."

However, Anna didn't react much to Colin's words. She responded absentmindedly, her gaze vacant as she stared ahead, as if she hadn't really heard him. A sense of foreboding filled Colin's heart; he knew Anna had something on her mind but didn't know how to bring it up.

He sighed silently, deciding to discuss it back at the hotel. She had been distracted all evening—did she think he hadn't noticed?

When they arrived at the hotel and opened the door, Anna seemed to have made a significant decision. She took a deep breath, mustered all her courage, and said in a soft yet firm voice, "Colin, let's break up."

Her words felt like a cold, sharp blade, freezing the air around them. Colin's movement to close the door halted abruptly. His eyes flashed with disbelief, followed by deep confusion and pain. He slowly turned to face Anna, his voice low and trembling, "What did you say?"

Anna's body trembled slightly as she tried to maintain her composure, but the struggle and reluctance within her made it hard to breathe. She remained facing away from him, her voice barely concealing a sob, "I said, let's break up." Each word felt like a heavy burden, weighing down on her heart with unprecedented pain.

Colin felt a strong premonition; he had sensed this day might come but didn't want to face it or believe it.

He slowly approached Anna, each step feeling like walking on sharp blades, piercing his heart. His voice grew weak, his features more profound and heavy in the dim light, "You can't just say things like that. Our relationship isn't something that can end with a simple breakup."

Anna's shoulders trembled lightly. She bit her lower lip hard, trying not to let her tears fall. She knew that once she uttered those words, their beautiful moments would forever be in the past. But she also knew that a short pain was better than a long one, and for their future, she had to make this difficult decision.

"So, I'm not saying it lightly. I'm serious." Anna's voice echoed clearly and decisively in the empty hotel room, each word like a sharp knife cutting through Colin's heart.

Anna tried to make her tone sound casual, as if discussing something trivial, but her eyes betrayed a hint of sorrow and determination.

She continued, "I booked a flight for 1 AM tonight. I'll be heading to the airport soon." Her words were like a heavy hammer, striking Colin's heart.

Colin stared at Anna in shock, as if he couldn't believe his ears. She had already booked the flight, choosing to leave in the silent night without giving him any chance to change her mind.

Trying to act nonchalant, Anna walked into the bedroom and started packing her luggage. Her movements were quick and practiced, as if she was avoiding something, not wanting to face Colin's painful and confused gaze.

Colin stood there, tightly gripping the gift box containing the watch. At this moment, the carefully prepared gift felt like a cruel joke, lying silently in his palm.

He had planned to surprise her tonight, to show her how important she was to him. But reality had dealt him a harsh blow.

Colin knew Anna had something on her mind, but he didn't realize she had been contemplating breaking up.

Taking a deep breath, Colin tried to calm the turmoil within him. He walked to the window and pulled back the curtains, letting the moonlight flood the room and his broken heart.

Colin wasn't one to cling desperately. He silently gazed at the nightscape outside, then slowly turned to look at Anna, his voice low, "Anna, is being with me really that painful? Am I not as good as Caleb? You were with him for three years, but with me, it's only been three months, and you want to break up? Am I really that hard to love?"

Anna's heart felt like it was being squeezed tightly. She lowered her head, biting her lip to keep from crying out loud.

Tears fell one by one onto the clothes in her suitcase, and Colin mistook her silence for agreement with his words.

In that moment, Colin suddenly threw the gift bag to the ground with force, the sound startling Anna.

Colin's sudden anger was palpable. He opened his mouth as if to curse, but seeing Anna's trembling body, his fury dissolved into a single sentence, "Tell me, why? Am I not good enough?"

Anna felt her heart shatter at his words. She struggled to keep herself from crying out loud.

"No, you're great. It's me who's not good enough, who doesn't deserve you."

Colin closed his eyes briefly and exhaled slowly, "I respect your choice. Before I change my mind, get out."

The harshest word Colin said to her tonight was probably that "get out."

Anna felt a pang of sadness. Even in anger, Colin only said "get out."

How could she ever be worthy of someone so composed? Anna suddenly felt like a terrible person, like a love scammer, hurting Colin. This realization made it impossible for her to move.

"Still not leaving? Waiting to see me find a woman to play with?" Colin suddenly said coldly.
