Chapter 138 Did I Kill Him?

The middle-aged guy got whacked on the head and dropped like a sack of potatoes. Bella was stunned, tears instantly streaming down her face. "I didn't mean to."

Bella's hand was cut from the sharp edge of the flowerpot she was holding, and it was bleeding pretty badly.

Micah rushed over to her. "Are you okay?"

He pulled Bella behind him, eyeing the guy on the ground. Bella was freaking out, her mind racing. "What do we do? Did I kill him? I didn't mean to. I just saw him trying to hit you. I didn't mean to."

Bella was crying, feeling both scared and guilty. Micah gave the guy a nudge with his foot. "Relax, he's not dead. Even if he was, it'd be self-defense."

Bella finally dared to look at the guy. "Who is he? Why were you two fighting?"

Micah wiped some blood from his mouth and plopped down on a chair. "That's my brother, Elijah Hughes. He came to take over the company, so I gave him a good beating."

Bella looked at Micah, tears still streaming down her face, thinking, 'It wasn't just you beating him up; you two were going at it.'

Micah seemed to read her mind because he was pretty banged up too. "Forget it, you wouldn't get it. Elijah's always trying to pull some shady stuff, taking advantage of people. I've been wanting to teach him a lesson for a while."

Just then, Sterling rushed over and immediately ran to Bella. Seeing Bella in a state of panic, tears streaming down her face and trembling with fear, he pulled her into his arms and gently reassured her, "It's okay."

Seeing Sterling, Bella felt a glimmer of hope. She pointed at Elijah. "I didn't kill him, did I?"

Sterling glanced at Elijah and then at Micah, chuckling. "He's fine; just knocked out."

Sterling patted Bella's shoulder, reassuring her, then told Micah, "Get him to the hospital and clean this mess up."

Micah knew what Sterling meant by cleaning up, especially the last hit Bella had made.

"Don't worry, I don't need a woman to save me, but I appreciate it, Bella. Thanks."

Sterling shot him a warning look. "Cut the crap and handle it."

Sterling and Micah didn't need to say much; they understood each other. "Let me know if you need help. I'm taking Bella out of here."

Micah nodded, watching them leave.

In the car, Sterling noticed Bella's hand was bleeding. His expression darkened. "You're hurt? Didn't I tell you to stay back? Does it hurt?"

Bella looked at her hand and frowned. "I didn't feel it at the time," she said, feeling a bit sorry for herself.

But now that Sterling mentioned it, it did hurt. Bella pouted and nodded. "Yeah, it hurts."

On the way, Sterling kept scolding her. "Why did you have to be so brave? When you saw them fighting, why didn't you stay back? You actually tried to intervene. What were you thinking?"

Bella, already hurting and now getting scolded, felt a wave of frustration. "Do you think I wanted to? I had no idea what was going on. I just saw that guy trying to hit Micah. I didn't think, I just reacted."

Sterling glanced at her. "So you were trying to play hero for a guy?"

Bella's face flushed with anger. "What are you talking about? I thought he was your good friend. If he got hurt, wouldn't you care?"

Sterling snorted. "I don't get involved in their family drama, and there's not much I can do about it."

Even though Sterling said that, Bella noticed the concern in his eyes when he saw Micah in the office. She didn't call him out on it and instead asked, "What's the deal with Micah's family? Do they have a lot of kids? Why all this fighting over inheritance?"

Sterling replied, "They have four kids: one daughter and three sons. Micah's the youngest. The guy who got beat up, Elijah, is his second brother."

Bella was surprised. "Why did Elijah hit Micah?"

Sterling, keeping his eyes on the road, said, "Their parents favor Elijah. Micah's always been the black sheep, so it's not unusual for him to get targeted."

Bella didn't get these family feuds. She nodded, deciding not to get involved in their complicated issues.

Sterling added, "Their family is a mess."

At the hospital, Bella's hand needed a few stitches. The cut on her palm hurt so much that she winced in pain.

Looking at her heavily bandaged hand, Bella sighed. "How am I supposed to work like this?"

Sterling said, "If you can't work, take some time off. Your company's been unstable lately anyway. Take a week off."

Bella reluctantly agreed.

That night, when Bella was taking a shower, Sterling insisted on helping her.

Even though they'd seen each other naked plenty of times, Bella still felt awkward. It was really embarrassing to be fully awake and held by him while showering.

But Sterling acted like it was no big deal, calmly undressing her, applying body wash, and washing her all over. After making sure she was clean and smelling good, he wrapped her in a towel and carried her to bed.

Then Sterling started doing what he wanted, as if the shower was just a prelude.

The next day, Bella swore she'd never let Sterling help her shower again.

Bella remembered that last night in bed, Sterling held her tightly, looking into her eyes with deep affection, as if he'd loved her for years. "Bella, kiss me."

Bella, under Sterling's insistence, had to lift her head to find his lips. As soon as they touched, Sterling took control, leaving her breathless with his kiss.

Sterling whispered, "Bella, who am I?"

Bella, trembling with him, couldn't speak. Sterling, as if on purpose, suddenly stopped and forced her to say, "Bella, say it, who am I?"

Bella, unable to bear it, could only call out, "Sterling, you are Sterling."

Sterling suddenly thrust deeply, making Bella almost scream. Sterling said, "Wrong."

Bella, tormented by him, couldn't stand it. But Sterling held her, never letting her go.
