Chapter 211 Waking Up to Loss
Sterling could only lie in bed, turning his head to stare unblinkingly at Bella.
After the doctors left, Colin had to ask, "What do you think about these two car accidents?"
Mentioning this, a different emotion finally appeared in Sterling's eyes, which suddenly turned sharp and sinister.
"Investigate. Send everyone out. I don't want to go through the police; I want to make him wish he were dead in my own way."
Thinking of Bella fainting in front of him and the large patches of blood mixed with rainwater, he couldn't suppress his murderous rage.
Colin said, "Ryan and Micah have been out there investigating with our people. Don't worry, but he might only be able to push out a scapegoat."
Sterling said in a low voice, "Besides him, who else could it be? Even a scapegoat deserves to die."
Colin took a deep breath and shared his speculation, "Could these two accidents be related to our previous test on him? Did he lose patience and decide to act early, causing your accident? Then, after learning you were unharmed, he targeted Bella?"
"Bella was fine while staying at Anna's house. Why did something happen as soon as she left?"
Sterling thought for a moment and shook his head. "No, he shouldn't have realized Bella's importance to me yet. Otherwise, he had plenty of opportunities to act when she was with Anna, but he didn't."
"These two accidents were aimed at me. He tampered with the car I usually use at the company and the one I often use at home for double insurance. It just so happened that Bella and Anna were in that car. Bella and Anna were implicated because of me. By the way, how is Anna?"
Thinking of this, Sterling looked at Colin gratefully and said, "I really need to thank Anna this time. If it weren't for her, I might never have seen Bella again."
Mentioning Anna, a dark look flashed in Colin's eyes. Thinking of Anna being injured and unconscious, he also found it hard to suppress his murderous rage.
Colin said with a stern face, "This is no longer just your problem. I won't let him get away with it."
Colin paused and continued, "The Windsor Group has blocked the news externally, but the stock price has still been affected, probably due to his manipulation."
Sterling snorted, "He won't be smug for long."
Colin still looked at Sterling in confusion, "Why does he want your life? Isn't he after the Windsor Group?"
Sterling shook his head, his eyes dark, "If he only wanted the Windsor Group, he wouldn't need to go to such lengths to kill me."
"He's back for revenge. He wants to destroy the Windsor Group, destroy the Windsor family. He wants the entire Windsor family to be buried with him."
Colin was shocked, "Just him? Does he think he can shake the Windsor family's position in Harborvale? Could he have other cards up his sleeve?"
Sterling looked at Bella and said, "He won this round, but I'll be the one setting the stage for the next."
Bella felt like she had been asleep for a long time. She wanted to wake up but felt her eyelids were heavy and couldn't open them.
Bella felt someone holding her hand. She instinctively grabbed back and, not knowing who it was, called out, "Dad."
But it wasn't the voice from her memory; it was a familiar one, "Bella, Bella, it's me."
It was Sterling.
Bella finally opened her eyes. The light was blinding, and she instinctively closed them.
The room's lights were then dimmed, and her blurry vision slowly became clear.
Sterling's face finally appeared before her. Her eyes were so dry that she couldn't shed tears. It was good; she wasn't dead.
Bella's ability to think hadn't returned yet when she heard someone run out and call the doctor in.
Will walked to Sterling's side and said softly, "Sterling, let me check on her."
As soon as Sterling let go of her hand, Bella instinctively grabbed him tighter.
Sensing Bella's unease, Sterling leaned down and whispered in her ear, "It's okay. I'm right here. Let the doctor check you, just for a moment."
Bella, still in a daze, slowly let go of his hand. Seeing Sterling hadn't gone far, she gradually felt at ease.
During Will's examination, Bella seemed to finally regain her ability to think.
She raised her hand to touch her abdomen, then glanced around the room, and suddenly became fully awake.
She panicked, feeling a strong sense of separation from the days when her body was connected to another life.
"The baby, where's the baby?"
Sterling couldn't hide his sorrow but explained, "Bella, it's okay. We can have more children."
Bella finally remembered the terrifying scene. Ignoring the pain, she struggled and said, "Why, why, my baby, why couldn't I protect my baby?"
Will immediately tried to calm her, "Bella, you mustn't move. You have multiple fractures and went through a miscarriage. You need to rest carefully, or you'll have lasting issues."
Will's words drained Bella of her strength. She collapsed on the bed, staring blankly at Sterling, her eyes too dry to shed tears.
Sterling's heart ached unbearably as he watched her.
Sterling could only gently wipe her tears and say, "Don't be afraid. It's over. We can have more children. The most important thing is that you're okay."
Bella couldn't snap out of it. Why had things turned out this way? She didn't want to speak, feeling all her strength had been drained along with the baby.
Bella felt like her whole body had been through a brutal battle, as if her bones had been disassembled and reassembled.
Despite the anesthesia, the pain still numbed her. She couldn't fully control her body and knew she was seriously injured. The baby was clearly lost.
Bella closed her eyes, and tears finally flowed. She lay there silently crying, unable to say a word.
"Bella, my poor Bella, it breaks my heart. Why, God, why?" Zoey wiped her tears while also wiping Bella's.
Sterling was beside her, helping to wipe her tears, saying, "Bella, don't cry. It's bad for your eyes."
Bella's sorrow was something no one could truly understand, not even Sterling, who was equally heartbroken.
He wondered if he would ever have another child if he couldn't protect this one.
Suddenly, Bella thought of something else.
"Anna, where's Anna?"
Sterling immediately said, "She only has some minor injuries. She's in the next room. Bella, don't worry."
Bella finally felt relieved. She looked at Sterling and suddenly said, "Someone must be behind this. Who is it?"
"Sterling, don't treat me like a fool. If your accident was an accident, what about mine? I don't believe in so many coincidences."
