Chapter 208 A Moment of Life and Death
Bella laughed and said, "It's good to have you back. Let's go to the hospital to see Sterling now."
In the car, Bella was thinking about what to say to Sterling when she first saw him.
As she thought about it, her heart inexplicably started to beat faster.
And with the heartbeat came danger and unexpected events.
Raindrops tapped on the car window. Bella leaned back in the seat, her excitement gradually subsiding.
She watched the unpredictable rain curtain ahead, wondering how much longer it would take to get there.
Anna and Owen were chatting in the front passenger seat when Anna suddenly received a call from Colin.
"Yes, we're on our way to the hospital. I know it's raining today; I brought an umbrella, okay? You're so nagging."
Bella couldn't help but laugh. Colin was always paying attention to Anna, but Anna, being so oblivious, hadn't noticed anything.
Bella couldn't help but wonder if Anna, having suffered in love with Caleb, was going to make Colin experience the same.
Bella was amused by her own thoughts.
Bella didn't know what would happen between Colin and Anna in the end, but since Anna hadn't fallen for Colin yet, she didn't bother to clarify things for them.
Colin was probably still nagging on the other end of the line. Anna, with her head down, was talking quietly, sounding very impatient.
Bella also took out her phone and glanced at it.
A few minutes ago, she had received a message from Sterling. It was the first message from him in two months.
It was just one sentence: [I'm fine, don't worry.]
Sterling had reassured her. Bella stared at the message for a long time, feeling very content as she touched her belly.
This time, she was determined to have the baby and be with Sterling, never to be separated again."Bella..."
Anna's voice suddenly came through. Bella was about to speak when the car suddenly hit something with a bang!
The incident happened so suddenly that no one had time to react.
They were all wearing seat belts, and after the impact, Owen quickly turned the steering wheel to get the car back on track.
Bella panicked because she felt the car lurch forward, and the speed suddenly increased.
"What happened?" Anna shouted.
Bella felt the impact and was pulled back into her seat by the seat belt. Her abdomen hit hard, and she felt nauseous.
Owen, in the driver's seat, said, "I don't know what happened. The car suddenly went out of control and hit the side of the road. Are you all okay?"
It was Owen's first time experiencing something like this. He held the steering wheel steadily to prevent the car from losing control again.
"Then stop the car, Owen," Anna was almost in tears.
Bella, feeling the pain in her abdomen, said, "Owen, pull over quickly."
Owen's next words made them feel as if their souls had left their bodies. "I can't. The brakes have failed, Mrs. Windsor."
Owen's words made Bella and Anna feel like they had fallen into an ice cellar, their hands and feet cold.
Anna and Bella felt as if their voices had been taken away, and they could only hold onto their seat belts tightly.
Bella's face turned pale. She held her belly with both hands, trying to stay calm.
She took out her phone to call Sterling and told Anna to tell Colin to send help immediately.
"Okay," Anna said. "I'll tell him right now."
Anna snapped out of it and frantically searched for her phone, which had fallen during the collision.
In the back seat, Bella was also urgently making a call.
Before Anna could say anything and before Bella could complete her call, the car began to veer off course again.
Bella only heard Anna's panicked scream. In the chaos, she grabbed the seat belt, feeling her mind go blank for a few seconds before the car was back on track.
Looking ahead, Bella saw that Anna had climbed over to the driver's seat. One foot was on the failed brake, and both hands were on the steering wheel.
"What happened?" Bella's voice trembled.
Anna cried out, "Owen's head is bleeding. I don't know if he's dead."
Bella realized that Owen must have been injured in the initial collision. She gritted her teeth and said, "Anna, can you hold on?"
Anna swallowed hard and said, "Don't worry, Bella, I can hold on."
Bella said again, "Anna, hold on. I'm calling Sterling now."
"Sterling, we've been in a car accident." Bella tried to keep her voice steady.
In the hospital room, Sterling heard Bella's words and instantly felt tense and panicked.
He controlled his emotions and told Bella not to hang up, saying he would arrange for help immediately.
The car was in the city, so it wouldn't take long for help to arrive. But Anna's driving skills were lacking.
"Anna, drive to a more open area and burn off some fuel," Bella spoke with difficulty.
Bella felt her abdomen hurting more and more, and the feeling was getting stronger. The baby had to hold on.
Anna, now in the driver's seat, stared wide-eyed and focused on the road ahead.
Bella, her voice shaking, encouraged her again, "Three minutes, Anna. Just hold on for three more minutes."
Sterling's men wouldn't take long to arrive and intercept the car.
But Anna didn't dare to speak; she really couldn't guarantee it. Three minutes felt like an eternity to her.
Suddenly, a truck appeared ahead. Anna's pupils dilated, and she sharply turned the steering wheel.
The turn was so abrupt that Bella was pulled by the seat belt again.
Bella glanced down and saw that she was bleeding.
Sterling heard a cry of pain over the phone and shouted, "Bella!"
Bella had the phone to her ear but couldn't muster the energy to say any last words because she heard a terrifying sound.
"Sterling, there might be a bomb in our car."
Sterling, holding the phone, felt as if he had been struck by lightning. Ignoring his injuries and chest pain, he ripped out his IV and rushed out of the hospital room, with Ryan and the bodyguards unable to stop him.
Hearing Anna say, "Bella, are you bleeding?" Sterling felt a wave of darkness wash over him.
Anna continued, "There's an empty, abandoned parking lot ahead. There aren't many cars."
Bella didn't know if the beeping sound was a countdown or something else.
She saw her blood flowing more and more and could only take a gamble. Was this child also destined not to survive?
But maybe in the next second, they would be blown up. Here, they didn't even have a minute, let alone three.
Sterling must have been running fast. His voice came through, trembling, "Have Anna crash the car to stop it. Don't wait for help."
