Chapter 116 Scratching Nia
Bella was instantly pissed, snapping, "Aren't you like that?"
Sterling was already wiped out that day, and Bella's grilling only made him madder.
He shot back, "Bella, have I made your life too comfortable lately? What are you getting at now? Think I caused James's car accident? Fine, even if I did, so what? You think the cops can pin it on me? You've been so idle lately that you've started thinking nonsense again!"
Bella was left speechless by Sterling's outburst.
She snorted, "Sterling, if you really didn't do it, then what is this?"
Bella pulled out her phone and played the recording she had received.
Sterling's face darkened as he glared at Bella. "Who sent this to you?"
Bella put her phone away and said, "I don't know, but with this recording, do you think I can't link the car accident to you? I know you have your own way of doing things, but when it comes to James and me, you've never been rational. Can you honestly say you've never thought about it?"
Sterling was fuming. "Bella, what are you saying now? You feel sorry for him and want to see him? Want me to help you find his address and take you there?"
Bella snorted, "No need."
Bella actually wanted to talk things out calmly, not to accuse him like this, but she just couldn't keep her anger in check. They ended up having another big argument over James.
Bella just couldn't wrap her head around why Sterling wouldn't let James go. Sure, she worried about James, but it was purely out of concern as a friend.
Then Anna quickly sent her news about James being hospitalized.
During dinner, Zoey noticed the tension between Bella and Sterling, so she whipped up some delicious food for Bella. Just as Zoey was calling Bella down for dinner, Bella heard Nia scream from the top of the stairs.
Bella immediately ran over and saw Sunny glaring fiercely at Nia, fur all puffed up.
Nia was clutching her arm and glaring at Sunny.
Sterling heard the commotion and came over, asking, "What's going on?"
Seeing Sterling, Nia immediately complained, "Sterling, this damn cat scratched me, look."
Nia extended her arm to Sterling, showing several red scratches.
Bella immediately glared at Sunny and said, "Come here, why did you scratch her?"
Nia instantly got angrier and said, "Bella, how could this damn cat possibly understand you? Now it scratched me. What do you say we do about it?"
Bella, also a bit pissed, picked up Sunny, worried Nia might hurt the cat in a fit of rage.
Bella said, "I apologize for Sunny. I know it's wrong for Sunny to scratch you. But rest assured, Sunny's been vaccinated and dewormed, and is super clean with no germs. If you're worried, I can take you to get a shot, and I'll cover the medical expenses. Is that okay?"
Clearly, Nia wasn't ready to let it go. She said, "How can you guarantee it's clean? This damn cat, do I have to put up with it? It's an animal; can't it stay outside? Do you have to keep it in the house? Don't you know it might carry hidden germs?"
Bella knew she was partly to blame and said softly, "It's really very clean. If you don't believe me, I can take you to get it checked right now."
Nia snapped, "This damn cat absolutely can't stay in the house. You have to get rid of it. And who knows if it has toxoplasmosis? If I get infected, it could cause a miscarriage if I get pregnant. By the way, I heard you had a miscarriage and heavy bleeding before. Wasn't it because of this damn cat?"
She then turned to Sterling and said, "Sterling, she insists on keeping this darn cat, and you don't even do anything about it?"
Bella's face flushed with anger, but she couldn't say much. She coldly replied, "Miss Getty, let me reiterate, if you insist on this, there's nothing I can do. Besides, Sunny is very gentle. Why would it scratch you for no reason? Maybe you provoked Sunny first."
With a stern expression and gripping her scratched arm, Nia declared, "Bella, your cat scratched me, and you're bullying me too. If I'm not welcome here, there's no point in staying."
Nia went upstairs to pack her things and soon came down with her suitcase. Sterling stood by, not saying a word, just staring at Bella.
Then he said, "Can you keep it in the yard from now on?"
Bella just said, "Sunny has always been fine. Why would it suddenly scratch her? Why don't you find out the truth before assuming it's Sunny's fault?"
Sterling really didn't want to discuss the cat's right or wrong. He just softened his tone and said, "Can you keep an eye on Sunny from now on? Let's not make a fuss anymore."
Bella didn't say anything, and Nia, holding her suitcase, said, "Since I'm not welcome, I'll leave, okay?"
Then she started calling Xavier. Before the call connected, Sterling grabbed the phone and hung up.
Sterling said, "Nia, I apologize on behalf of Bella. If you're not happy staying here, I have another villa. Can you stay there? I'll have someone take care of you."
Bella still didn't say anything, but Nia instantly got angry and said, "Sterling, my dad entrusted you to take care of me, not your servants. How can you explain this to my dad?"
Taking a deep breath, she continued, "I got scratched by a cat, and I'm still upset. Why did Bella have to say those things? Bella said she's the mistress of this house and can kick me out whenever she wants. Isn't that just trying to make me leave? Now I'm leaving, isn't that enough? You don't have to stop me."
Hearing this, Sterling rubbed his forehead in frustration and said, "Bella's right; she is the mistress of this house. But you two don't see each other often. Can't you get along for a day?"
Bella and Nia both turned their heads and said nothing. Sterling felt a bit helpless. He said, "Bella, come and apologize to Nia."
Bella didn't say anything and went to the living room with Sunny.
Sterling had no choice but to go over and say, "Sunny scratched Nia, right? Let's be reasonable. You apologize to Nia on Sunny's behalf. Otherwise, do you want me to put Sunny outside?"
This approach seemed to work better. Bella had to swallow her pride and apologize to Nia.
But Nia clearly didn't want to accept Bella's apology and turned back to the dining table.
