Chapter 376 Ways to Coax
Colin knew Gia was strong-willed and stubborn, and he understood why she came to see Anna. But he never imagined it would hurt Anna this much.
Anna looked up, her eyes cold as she shot him a sarcastic smile. "You just figured that out? I almost regret it. She offered me a ton of money, and I didn't take it. You're not worth that much."
Colin sighed and said, "Don't say that. I've given you way more than my mom ever did. Trust me, I'll talk to her. I promise, from now on, she won't bother you anymore, okay?"
As he spoke, Colin cautiously moved his feet, careful not to get too close, nervous that he might get hit.
Seeing this, Anna sighed softly, a barely noticeable softness in her eyes. She took a steaming box of rice from Serafina and placed it on the empty seat at the table, silently inviting him. "Come on, sit down and eat."
Serafina ate quietly, not daring to speak. She was known as the "big eater" in the restaurant, usually eating two boxes of rice when others only needed one. Everyone knew this, but no one pointed it out. She didn't want her appetite to be the center of attention.
Colin obediently sat in the seat Anna indicated, still feeling a bit uneasy.
As soon as he sat down, Anna naturally reached out to serve him some food.
Colin instantly tensed up, instinctively shifting his body and crossing his arms over his chest in a defensive stance. His sudden reaction left everyone stunned, not understanding why he acted that way.
Anna was baffled by his unexpected move, her gentle smile freezing into confusion. "What are you doing? It's not like I hit you all the time." She said, half amused, half exasperated.
"You know how strong you are. If you act like this, people will think I'm some kind of abuser." She shook her head, her eyes a mix of reproach and amusement, teasing Colin for overreacting.
Colin grinned, his eyes filled with playful affection. "Even if I could hit, I'd never lay a hand on you. If you did hit me, I'd be a gentleman and not fight back."
"But honestly, you do get physical with me sometimes. Last night, you kicked me off the bed when I wasn't paying attention." He stretched out the last words, feigning a hurt expression.
Bella, hearing this, choked on her water, coughing loudly and blushing. She finally caught her breath, laughing and scolding, "You two are too much! This isn't arguing; it's showing off your relationship! Enough, Anna, don't come to the restaurant this afternoon. You two need to sort this out. We single folks can't handle your sweetness; our hearts can't take it."
Bella threw a knowing, amused glance at the other staff, who nodded in agreement, not wanting to see more of their lovey-dovey antics.
After lunch, Colin, like a kid, used all his charm to persuade Anna to leave with him. He had the perfect plan to cheer her up: buying a ton of her favorite snacks and taking them back to the hotel.
He knew Anna was always in a good mood when eating, and with his smooth talking, he could easily make her forget her grievances.
Laughing and chatting, they picked out a bunch of snacks and returned to the hotel, their arms full.
As soon as they stepped out of the elevator, Colin's demeanor changed. He tiptoed and whispered, "Quietly, my mom's in the room across from us. She came early this morning, worried about us. She's probably resting now, so let's not wake her."
He made a shushing gesture, and Anna, hearing this, angrily shook off Colin's hand, her face full of resentment and her eyes slightly red. Her voice choked with emotion, "I shouldn't have come. I should've stayed away. I'm leaving!"
She turned to leave, clearly not wanting to stay.
Colin, though anxious, knew arguing in the hallway would only make things worse. He quickly covered Anna's mouth and pulled her into the room, closing the door with a sigh of relief.
Inside, Colin's expression softened, his tone gentle. "Alright, we're in our space now. You can do whatever you want. I'm all ears." He stepped back, showing he was ready to listen.
Anna, still fuming, kicked off her shoes and plopped onto the couch, tearing into the snack packages.
She ate and complained, "Your mom's visit to the restaurant was humiliating! She doesn't like me, and you know it. You didn't prepare her, and you tricked me into this. It's all your fault! All this hurt is because of you!"
Her voice was filled with frustration and hurt, her bright eyes glistening with tears. She chewed her food, glancing at Colin, waiting for his response.
Colin nodded repeatedly, his voice full of apology and determination. "You're right, it's my fault. I didn't prepare properly and let you get hurt. My mom isn't usually like this; she's really easy to get along with. There must've been a misunderstanding or she couldn't control her emotions. I promise, I'll talk to her and make sure this never happens again. I'll fix everything."
