Chapter 299 Pitiful and Hateful
Debra thought she and Caleb were partners, but she had been playing with fire all along. She decided to tell Sterling everything because she remembered what Caleb had said before letting her go.
'I can let you go, but I'll contact you when I need you. Don't think you can escape me. If I can't find you, your gang-rape video will be posted online. Think carefully. If you hadn't messed up my plan, Sterling would be worse than dead by now. I've never seen a woman as stupid as you.'
Debra realized Caleb was targeting Sterling, and despite everything, Sterling was still a man she had feelings for. She decided to warn him.
But she didn't want to face Sterling looking like this, the man who had once been her only support and salvation.
So, Debra abandoned the idea of meeting Sterling in person and decided to call him instead.
With trembling fingers, she dialed his familiar number, her heart filled with both hope and fear, unsure of what response and fate awaited her.
After several attempts, the "calling" message on her phone screen finally turned into "unable to connect," and Debra's heart sank to the bottom.
In despair, Debra threw her phone to the ground, shattering it into pieces, mirroring her broken spirit.
Sterling, the man who had once treated her with such kindness, had now completely blocked her, as if she had never existed in his world.
Looking around, this small, dirty, and cheap apartment was her current residence, a stark contrast to the luxurious Foster Villa she once called home.
Here, there were no servants, no lavish decorations, not even a hint of warmth.
She realized she was no longer the high-and-mighty heiress of the Foster family. Now, she had nothing, not even basic dignity and freedom.
Her father, Dash, once a successful businessman, had now become a burden.
Dash couldn't stand this environment and always urged her to pester Mira, the woman who was her mother in name but whom she hated the most. Most of the time, they lived in Mira's mansion, leading a life dependent on her.
Thinking of Mira filled Debra with complex emotions. She hated Mira for divorcing Dash, for destroying her once-happy family, and for making her life so miserable.
But at the same time, she had to rely on Mira because, as Mira's biological daughter, everything Mira owned should theoretically belong to her too.
Just as Debra wiped away her tears and mustered the courage to go find Mira, a Rolls-Royce Lightning Speed convertible suddenly appeared in her view, blocking her path.
Despite her fall from grace, Debra still had an eye for luxury. Anyone who could afford such a car was no ordinary person.
Before she could approach the car, the window rolled down slowly.
To her surprise, the driver was Colin, the young and ruthless business prodigy.
Colin's appearance made Debra both surprised and nervous. She didn't know why he was here or what he wanted from her. But her intuition told her that this encounter might be a turning point in her fate.
"Colin," Debra said, her voice tinged with surprise, while she secretly speculated about his sudden visit.
Apart from Sterling, Colin was undoubtedly an ideal man in the eyes of many women—handsome and wealthy, hard to resist.
Colin, expressionless, gestured for her to get in the car.
Debra felt a surge of joy and eagerly opened the door, sitting in the passenger seat. "Colin, long time no see. Is there something you need my help with?"
Debra tried to mask her anxiety with a cheerful tone.
However, Colin didn't respond to her enthusiasm. His gaze was calm and penetrating, as if he could see through her. "Tell me everything that happened after Caleb found you, without leaving out a single detail."
Colin's tone carried an undeniable authority.
Debra's expression froze. She suddenly realized that the Colin before her was no longer the one who indulged her whims. He had taken Bella and Anna's side, becoming her adversary.
Yes, ever since Sterling dumped her, she had been kicked out of their circle, becoming an outsider.
A wave of resentment and anger surged within her. She changed her attitude, her tone turning cold. "What if I don't?"
Why should she obediently comply? Why should Bella and Anna be in the spotlight while she lost everything?
Colin's gaze grew sharper. He looked at Debra deeply, his voice low and powerful. "Do you think you still have the right to refuse? Whether you talk or not, the outcome will be the same."
Colin's tone carried an unmistakable threat.
Debra's heart tightened. She knew Colin's methods and influence, and she had no way to resist him. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her emotions.
Debra wanted to use this as leverage, hoping that after telling Colin everything, he would offer her a different life, perhaps a chance to change her fate.
But before Debra could speak, Colin pressed a button, locking the car doors, plunging the interior into a stifling silence.
Colin spoke coldly, his voice filled with an undeniable threat. "Not talking? Then let's have a good chat. I happen to have photos of you entertaining clients at nightclubs. Imagine the reaction if news spread that the once-privileged Foster heiress had become a nightclub prostitute. Wouldn't that be interesting?"
Debra's face turned pale at his words. She bit her lip hard, her fingers trembling with tension.
Under Colin's coercion, she finally gave in, her voice tinged with despair and resentment. "Yes, I admit it. I was jealous of Bella. I envied her for having Sterling's love and her family's power, which led to my family's bankruptcy and took most of my mom's divorce settlement. I always wanted to get back at her, but I had no money or connections."
"Then Caleb found me. He promised me money and a chance for revenge. He gave me a photo of Bella and told me to find someone to kidnap her, humiliate her, and give him the video. I didn't know his true motive. I only knew our goals aligned. I later found out he was targeting Sterling. If I had known earlier, I wouldn't have agreed."
