Chapter 94 Released Concern
The woman was a total knockout, definitely the kind Sterling would go for.
"That's Sable Lawson, the new secretary. No need to get all jealous." Sterling had planned to head out, but when the receptionist mentioned Bella was looking for him, he quickly let Sable in, putting on a little show for Bella.
Seeing Bella standing at the door, not coming in, he knew his plan was working.
Even though Bella talked about divorcing him, she probably still had feelings for him.
Her face was all angry after hearing his words.
"Who's jealous? Just sign this; I've got stuff to do," Bella snapped.
"Leave it; I'll check it out later," Sterling said indifferently.
"Let's have dinner together later," he ordered, leaving no room for argument.
Bella had heard that tone her whole life and hated it, but she never had the guts to fight back.
But now she did.
"No thanks, I've already got plans with Anna. No time for dinner with you." She hadn't actually made plans yet but was about to.
But Sterling being Sterling, once he made up his mind, no one could change it. He looked right at Bella.
"Want me to call Anna's boss right now?" His tone had a hidden threat, and Bella got it immediately.
Bella could only glare at Sterling and grit out, "Where are we eating?"
It wasn't that she wanted to give in; she just didn't want to drag Anna into this mess.
Sterling seemed pretty pleased with her giving in. He smiled a bit, got up, grabbed the keys from the table, and said, "Let's go."
Then he led her downstairs.
But when they got to the car, Bella realized she wasn't the only one going to dinner.
Sable was coming too.
Bella didn't get why Sterling was bringing the secretary. She looked at him, questioning with her eyes.
Sterling didn't say anything, just motioned for Bella to get in the car.
Luckily, Sable wasn't much of a talker. Bella figured it didn't matter.
When they got to the restaurant, Sterling had already reserved a table.
When the waiter led them to a private room, Bella was stunned. The dishes were already served, and they were all her favorites.
But what was with the full room of people?
Bella looked at Sterling, puzzled.
The people in the private room all greeted Sterling and Bella when they saw them.
Bella could only smile back politely.
It seemed like he was just taking her to a gathering.
Bella didn't know what Sterling was up to. He acted weird the whole meal.
He kept serving her food in front of everyone, and Bella couldn't ask him what he was up to, so she just ate quietly.
Now Bella got why Sterling brought her to the gathering. He just wanted to keep up the image of a loving husband in front of everyone.
However, Bella didn't call him out on it.
The meal dragged on for almost two hours, and the whole time, Sterling kept taking care of her, serving her food and soup. She could only listen to their business talk while eating the food Sterling served.
But Sable kept piling food onto Sterling's plate. Even though Bella didn't say anything, it was hard to miss—it looked like a wife doting on her husband.
Unexpectedly, Bella spotted someone she knew at the gathering—her boss, Clara.
Micah couldn't make it tonight, so he sent Clara, who ended up sitting to Bella's left.
Clara was one of the few people who knew about Bella and Sterling's relationship.
Watching Sable keep serving food to Sterling, Clara leaned in and whispered to Bella, "What's with her? Anyone who didn't know better would think she's Sterling's wife. Bella, why don't you go and assert your dominance?"
Bella just gave a faint smile, shook her head, and stayed quiet. She had no interest in asserting any dominance.
Besides, she didn't care how many women Sterling had on the side. One Debra was already more than enough to handle.
Bella wasn't about to compete with those women for Sterling, and she definitely wasn't in the mood for it now.
By the time the gathering wrapped up, it was dark outside, and it had started pouring rain.
Sable, who had drunk quite a bit, looked at Sterling and said, "Mr. Windsor, can you take me home?"
Bella found it amusing; Sable must really be drunk, considering how much she had shielded Sterling from drinking tonight.
Who did Sable think Sterling was? And how could she have the nerve to ask him to take her home?
Bella was still wondering if Sable had some other angle when she heard Sterling coldly say, "I'm going home with my wife. Let the driver take you."
His response stunned Bella.
Tonight, Sterling was acting weird—being considerate during dinner and calling her his wife.
Was he still trying to keep up the loving husband act?
Bella quietly watched his profile, lost in thought.
When Ryan brought the car around, Sterling took off his coat and draped it over Bella's shoulders, then led her to the car.
Ryan ran over and handed an umbrella to Sterling.
Bella didn't refuse.
Once in the car, she took off Sterling's coat and said, "Sterling, there's no one here now. You can stop pretending."
Sterling was a bit annoyed.
He wanted to press Bella's head against the car window and shake some sense into her, wondering what she thought about all day.
Did she think his kindness always had ulterior motives?
Sterling was too angry to speak, and Bella stayed silent as they drove home.
Sometimes he wanted to be better to Bella. But her attitude always infuriated him.
Tonight he just wanted to take her out for dinner to relax.
Lately, they had been constantly arguing, and he had noticed Bella's fatigue and irritability, so he thought of taking her out to unwind tonight.
But Bella misunderstood him, making him extremely angry.
Since she lost the baby, she had moved to the guest room. But tonight, Sterling insisted she move back to the master bedroom. Although she resisted, she couldn't argue with him.
Because if she dared to argue, Sterling would definitely use Anna or Sunny to threaten her again.
