Chapter 88 Revenge
When Bella came downstairs, it was already dark outside.
Zoey was busy whipping up dinner, and Sterling was nowhere to be seen.
"Where's Sterling?" Bella asked, her voice flat.
Zoey glanced at Bella with concern as she came down. Bella had noticeably lost weight over the past few days. "Mrs. Windsor, your body is still recovering. You shouldn't get too worked up. Don't argue with Mr. Windsor; it's your health that will take the hit."
Bella knew Zoey meant well, but she was set on causing a scene. She was determined to get a divorce and leave Sterling.
Before she could ask more, Sterling walked in. She immediately approached him.
"Sterling, I want a divorce. You promised me that you would let me go once we had a child. Now that the child is gone. Can you let me go now?" Bella looked him straight in the eye, no politeness in her tone.
Sterling didn't expect her to bring up divorce again, and his anger flared. "Bella, have I been too good to you? Now you dare talk to me like this. Did you tell me about the child? Did I know you were pregnant? I didn't even have the basic right to know, and now you come to talk to me. Don't you think it's too late?"
He glared at her and snorted, "Didn't you say the child wasn't mine? Then you didn't keep your promise. Divorce? I don't want to hear that from you again."
With that, Sterling brushed past her and went into the room.
Bella broke down, crying again behind him.
She knew Sterling wouldn't believe anything she said. Now that she claimed the child wasn't his, he actually believed it. It was laughable.
Bella also knew she couldn't leave just yet. With Sterling's personality, if she tried to escape, he'd definitely catch her, and the consequences would be severe.
After considering all the possibilities, she realized how powerless she was. She couldn't overturn Lucas's case, and she couldn't avenge her child's death.
She collapsed onto the living room sofa, letting her tears fall.
Since she couldn't leave, no one else should have it easy either.
Bella wiped her tears, making a firm decision, and stormed upstairs.
She barged into Sterling's study, finding him still in the mood to read.
She thought she'd still be afraid of him like before, but she wasn't anymore. She had the courage to face him directly and resist, even if she couldn't leave.
"Sterling, the thing you care about most is the Windsor Group, right? Then from today on, let the Windsor Group's PR department be ready to clean up the mess!" Bella spat out her harsh words and turned to leave.
Sterling shook his head with a laugh. He found her naivety somewhat endearing.
Who would warn others before doing something bad?
Bella didn't even have the basic sense of self-protection. How could he trust her to leave alone?
Bella was like a nightingale he had kept for a long time. She had been caged for so long that she had long forgotten how to fly.
Bella, of course, didn't know what Sterling was thinking. After returning to her room, she called Anna.
Anna had just gotten home from work when Bella's words shocked her so much she jumped up from the sofa. "What? Did I hear that right, Bella? You want to go to a bar to find a gigolo?"
Anna knew losing the child was a huge blow to Bella, but this was too much.
Hearing Bella's confirmation, Anna immediately tried to talk her out of it. "Bella, you can have another child, but life isn't something you can just replace. Aren't you scared of Sterling?"
Bella didn't want Sterling controlling her every move, so she wanted to make him suffer. She had nothing to use against him except herself.
So she figured she'd use herself to get back at him.
Seeing Bella was serious, Anna didn't dare take it lightly. Anna's family had already gone bankrupt, so she had nothing to lose, but she was still a bit hesitant.
"Bella, I've got nothing left, so I can go to the bar with you and not fear Sterling's revenge. But have you thought this through? If you really find a gigolo, aren't you afraid Sterling will kill them?" Anna voiced her hesitation, and Bella fell silent.
Bella stared at the ceiling, lost in thought. She could take risks herself, but she couldn't gamble with other people's lives.
She collapsed onto the bed, her plan failing before it even started.
Several days passed, and Bella still couldn't think of a way to get back at Sterling. She felt frustrated and down, so she took a leave of absence from work.
But then, out of the blue, the police called the house, saying Owen had been arrested for attempted murder with a gun.
Owen and Zoey were the only ones in this house who made Bella feel genuine warmth, like family. She couldn't just ignore Owen.
When she arrived at the police station, she found Debra and Sterling there as well.
Debra looked pale and scared, and Sterling didn't look much better.
As soon as Debra saw Bella, she rushed over and slapped her.
Bella was stunned but immediately slapped back. "Are you out of your mind? Stop acting crazy everywhere."
Debra pointed at her and screamed, "Bella, I told you I didn't harm your child. Why don't you believe me? Why did you send someone to kill me? Do you hate me that much?"
She seemed to have gone mad, whether genuinely scared or just acting, but Bella didn't care.
She only knew that Owen wasn't the impulsive type. She looked at Sterling. "Where's Owen? I want to bail him out."
Sterling's eyes were cold as he spoke indifferently. "How can you?"
Bella thought Sterling wasn't going to help Owen, and her face changed immediately.
"Sterling, Owen is also your family. Do you really believe he would try to kill her?" she pointed at Debra and questioned sharply.
Debra now hid behind Sterling, clutching his arm tightly.
Bella found it both glaring and disgusting.
"I only believe in evidence. Did you instruct Owen?" Sterling knew Owen had always been very fond of Bella, and he remembered what Owen had said last time, "If you don't avenge her, I will."
This made it hard for Sterling to believe the authenticity of this incident. Of course, he still believed deep down that Owen wasn't impulsive.
Bella laughed, tears streaming down her face, but her voice was cold and emotionless. "Sterling, you're a devil. Yes, I instructed Owen. I'll send it to the reporters right now, let all the media know that Mrs. Windsor of the Windsor Group hired a hitman."
As she spoke, she took out her phone and really sent an email to the reporters.
Sterling's eyes darkened, and he snatched her phone, smashing it to the ground.
Bella felt her heart shatter along with it.
