Chapter 115 James' Car Accident
Qiana was crying as she spoke.
Through her tears, Qiana said, "I'm doing this for your own good. How much money can you make working so hard all the time? If you find a rich guy, wouldn't all your problems be solved?"
Anna was so mad she wanted to leave and never come back.
With tears in her eyes, Anna said, "Qiana, not everyone is like you. Sure, I'm used to a fancy life, but I can rock high heels and a wine glass, or I can wear slippers and work part-time. But you, don't push your dreams on me. I'm earning my way through hard work, and I'm happy. Qiana, stop setting me up on blind dates. If you want a rich life so bad, why don't you find a man yourself? I won't object, and I bet Dad wouldn't either."
Qiana was so furious she wanted to slap Anna again.
But Anna's eyes were cold. "You want to hit me again? You call me ungrateful, but look at yourself. I'm busting my butt from dawn till dusk to make a living. And you? Since Dad left and our family hit hard times, have you earned a single dollar? All you do is blow my hard-earned money on gambling and other nonsense. Can you think about me for once?"
Qiana was left speechless, just glaring at Anna with fury in her eyes. "I'm just trying to make your life better, to make you less tired. What's wrong with that?"
Anna felt it was pointless to argue. She sighed and said, "Fine, you want me to have a good life, I get it. But what's the deal with that blind date guy? He's older than Dad. You want me to marry him? What are you thinking?"
Qiana felt a bit guilty and muttered, "Isn't he rich?"
Anna was so angry her chest hurt, and tears streamed down her face. "A guy who demands I give him three sons and threatens to find another woman if I can't—is that what you call rich? A guy who gives me only $2,000 a month for living expenses—is that what you call rich?"
Qiana turned her head and said nothing. Anna stormed out of the house and wandered aimlessly along the river.
Walking in the wind, Anna's tears never stopped. She looked at the stars in the sky and really missed Peter.
If Peter were still here, he wouldn't let her suffer like this, right? As she was thinking, she got a bank transfer notification on her phone.
Anna opened it and saw 2 million dollars credited to her account. She was stunned, and then tears instantly fell. At this moment, besides Bella, no one else could have sent her money.
Looking at the 2 million dollars, Anna instantly thought of Caleb, who had also given her 2 million dollars.
Back then, Anna felt that Caleb's breakup fee was an insult and a mockery. But now, the $2 million that Bella gave her felt like warmth.
Anna squatted by the river, crying helplessly, feeling like the whole world had abandoned her, except for Bella, who silently supported her.
Suddenly, Anna heard the screech of brakes. A car stopped in front of her. She saw it was Colin's car.
Anna felt a bit embarrassed. Why did she always run into Colin at her most miserable moments?
"Why are you always crying when I see you?" Colin opened the car door and walked over to Anna.
Colin had just wrapped up a party and was driving by when he spotted someone squatting by the river who looked familiar from a distance. When he came closer, he realized it was indeed Anna. What was going on with her now?
Anna looked up at Colin with red eyes and after a long pause said, "Can you help me up?"
Colin looked puzzled.
"My legs are numb from squatting," Anna said through gritted teeth.
Colin immediately laughed, "Anna, you really do leave a lasting impression every time."
Colin helped Anna stand up.
The next day, Bella was downstairs in the kitchen, trying to learn how to cook with Zoey when she heard about James's accident.
She had decided to cook on a whim, and Zoey couldn't refuse her, so she had to teach her step by step. But Zoey was worried Bella might hurt her hands, so she cut all the ingredients herself and only taught Bella how to cook.
Bella was seriously learning to cook when her phone kept ringing in the living room.
Bella said, "Zoey, can you bring my phone in?"
Bella was washing her hands, then dried them and opened her phone to see a notification that James and his fiancée Amara had called off their engagement yesterday, and James had a car accident on the mountain road.
Bella was stunned when she saw the news. How could James and Amara call off their engagement? Bella knew Amara liked James a lot.
Amara always saw Bella as a rival in love. Given Amara's personality, she wouldn't agree to call off the engagement. More importantly, James had a car accident.
Just as Bella finished reading the news, Anna called, asking, "Did you know James had a car accident?"
Bella said, "I saw it, but Sterling won't let me go out. Can you find out which hospital he's in, how serious it is, and if he's okay?"
Anna said she would check immediately, and Bella felt a constant unease.
Bella lost interest in cooking and went back to her room. Suddenly, she received an email on her phone. She clicked it and found an audio file.
In the file, Sterling's voice was clear and recognizable, "James, you better understand that I was the one who got you engaged to Amara, so you should know your place. And if you dare to play any tricks, the consequences will be unimaginable."
Bella felt like she'd been doused with cold water, her whole body cold. She held her phone, trembling slightly.
Bella thought, 'Could Sterling have been involved in James's car accident? Or was this Sterling's doing? But what reason would Sterling have to do this now?'
Bella and James hadn't seen each other for a long time, and she had no other thoughts about James now. Why did something suddenly happen to James?
Bella looked at the file, feeling a hollow fear.
When Sterling came back that evening, the moment she saw him, Bella walked up without hesitation and asked, "Did you have anything to do with James's car accident?"
Sterling was taken aback, "Car accident?"
Bella said, "Sterling, don't pretend. Don't you know James and Amara called off their engagement and then he had a car accident?"
Sterling really didn't know about this.
But Sterling's face turned cold, "What do you mean? Do you think I caused the accident? Or do you think I'm the kind of person who has no regard for human life?"
