Chapter 227 The Head of the Family

The office fell into a silence so deep that only the faint sound of the air conditioner could be heard.

Blair pointed at Sterling for a long time before squeezing out a sentence, "Sterling, very well. You are incredibly arrogant."

Blair stormed out in a rage, and the others hurried to follow.

Sterling, however, returned to his chair and sat down as if nothing had happened.

Ryan looked at Sterling with concern and then said, "Mr. Windsor, if they really remove you as head of the family, it's going to cause a lot of trouble."

Sterling did not respond.

Ryan sighed, immediately turned around, and chased after Blair, "Mr. Blair Windsor."

Ryan stopped Blair in the hallway, "Mr. Sterling Windsor has been busy with work lately, with a lot on his plate, and he's not in a good mood. That's why he said those things. You know Mr. Sterling Windsor values the Windsor family the most and has always cared for the Windsor family's relatives."

Blair snorted, "Is he only in a bad mood today? I think by putting Derek in jail, he's betraying the family."

Blair's face turned livid with anger, "The Windsor family's century-old foundation doesn't depend on him alone. Since he's so arrogant, let's see how things turn out."

Ryan was helpless and did not explain or try to persuade further, but he felt that something big was definitely going to happen.

Sure enough, soon Bella found out about the argument between Blair and Sterling in the office.

Bella was very scared that they would remove Sterling from his position as the head of the family.

Over the years, without the support of his parents, the Windsor family relatives had become increasingly unscrupulous.

If it weren't for Sterling's abilities and methods, and the fact that the Windsor Group was doing well, Sterling might have already been driven out of the Windsor family.

He wouldn't end up on the streets, but they would certainly seize power from Sterling and marginalize him.

Bella paced back and forth anxiously at home, finally waiting for Sterling to come back at ten o'clock at night.

As soon as Sterling put down his coat, Bella rushed to his side and anxiously asked, "Sterling, why did you have to argue with Blair?"

Sterling paused as he put down his coat, seeing that Bella had found out so quickly. Then he looked at Zoey with a grim expression, "Who has been gossiping here?"

Zoey was also angry, "Mr. Windsor, does anyone need to gossip? The Windsor family relatives came to the house this afternoon while you were away, but Owen sent them away. These people came to trouble you over a scumbag, thinking you won't be the head of the family soon, and they all want to step on us."

Sterling knew they weren't really standing up for Derek; Derek was just an excuse, a pretext to cause him trouble.

Bella was full of worry, "Are they trying to take this opportunity to seize power from you and make you give up your position as the head of the family?"

Sterling pulled Bella to sit on the sofa and gently stroked her hair, "Don't worry. If they have the ability, let them try. Let's see if they can take it and keep it."

These words did not comfort Bella. She knew Sterling's situation was certainly not optimistic.

"Now you hold the power in the Windsor Group and within the Windsor family, but a family is not something you can dominate alone. Your strength alone cannot fight against them. If they find out I can't have children and can't give the Windsor family an heir, you will have no reason to hold onto the position of head of the family."

This was Bella's biggest worry. She was afraid that because of her, Sterling would lose his position as the head of the Windsor family.

She would feel guilty for the rest of her life if that happened.

Sterling's face immediately darkened upon hearing this, and his tone turned cold, "Bella, I told you not to say such things again. Nothing and no one is more important than you. I only want you. Do you understand?"

Sterling finished speaking and went upstairs. Bella knew she couldn't persuade him, so she didn't bring up the child issue again.

Instead, she said behind him, "Do you think you can fight the whole family? Blair could come to the company alone to confront you today. Don't you see?"

Sterling paused on the stairs and said calmly, "What can they do to me? What dare they do?"

Bella immediately raised her voice, "They will hold a family meeting to remove you as the head of the family. They will take back all your power within the family."

Sterling looked at Bella calmly and said, "Do you think I enjoy being the head of the family?"

Bella was stunned, "Sterling, what do you mean?"

Bella suddenly had a terrible thought. Could Sterling be planning to give up his position as the head of the family for her?

She wanted to ask more, but Sterling had already gone upstairs to his study.

Bella felt she understood Sterling less and less. Why didn't he want to be the head of the family? Was it really for her?

Thinking of this made Bella feel heavy-hearted. She couldn't bear the thought.

If Sterling really gave up his position as the head of the family for her, she would feel guilty for the rest of her life.

Sterling returned to his study and swept the documents off the desk in frustration, making a loud noise that startled Bella and Zoey downstairs.

Zoey said, "Mrs. Windsor, don't provoke him anymore. Today, Blair and those old guys were eager to cause trouble for Mr. Windsor. Let's not make him angrier."

Bella knew Sterling was in a bad mood, so she didn't go to him again and suppressed her worries.

In the evening, Sterling didn't come downstairs for dinner. Bella had Zoey prepare the meal, and then she brought it up to his study.

Sterling was sitting on the sofa with a bottle of wine in front of him, already half-drunk.

It seemed he did care about his position as the head of the family, but he hid his true emotions, making it hard for anyone to see what he was thinking.

Bella placed the food on the table and was about to leave.

"Because of this position as the head of the family, I have to put the family's future and honor first. I think as the head of the family, I must set an example for the Windsor family members."

"But, Bella, compared to you, all of this means nothing. If I have to give you up, I'd rather not have this position. They can't compare to you, and they don't deserve to." Sterling's voice was low and tired.

Bella stopped in her tracks when she heard him speak.

Bella cried, "I can't bear such a heavy burden. If you give up your position as the head of the family for me, it will suffocate me. Do you know that?"

Sterling looked up at her, his tone resolute, "If I can't be with you, if I have to divorce you to keep my position as the head of the family, then I'd rather destroy the Windsor family than hand it over to those people."

Seeing the madness in Sterling's eyes, Bella knew he meant it.

Bella couldn't take it anymore. She went up to Sterling and hugged him, crying even harder, "I'm sorry, I'm really sorry."
