Chapter 179 Failed Resignation
Anna was momentarily speechless. She had originally come to resign, but Colin's persuasive words left her unsure of what to do.
Colin, sensing her hesitation, didn't push further and simply said, "My proposal benefits both of us. If you go work for Micah, how will you ever repay the $2 million you owe me? Even if you save every penny, won't you need money to live? Think carefully about my offer. Now, please leave."
Anna walked out of Colin's office in a daze. She had thought the decision would be easy, but now she was conflicted.
Just as she was about to reject Colin's proposal again, Qiana unexpectedly arrived at the company.
Anna's mind went blank for a few seconds. When Qiana burst into the office, Anna, still in turmoil, stood up and said, "Mom, what are you doing here?"
Qiana, ignoring everything, said, "Anna, are you planning to resign? How will you support the family if you quit? Do you want us to starve?"
Anna quickly pulled Qiana into the stairwell.
"Mom, who told you that? Yes, I want to resign, but I can work with Bella at Micah's company and still make money."
Qiana immediately shook off Anna's hand and said angrily, "Can Micah compare to Colin? Colin is the heir to the Rivera family. And what about Bella? A wealthy friend is not as reliable as a wealthy man. I'm telling you, you can't resign. If you dare to quit, I'll make a scene at your company right now."
Anna was speechless. She felt like her whole life was cursed by Qiana. Frustrated, she said, "Mom, do you not want me to resign, or do you not want me to give up on Colin?"
Qiana, eyes wide with anger, shouted at Anna, "What's wrong with that? If you and Colin end up together, you won't have to struggle for the rest of your life. I'm telling you, you can't quit this job today."
Qiana suddenly started crying and said, "I'm doing this for your own good. Do you think I'm oppressing you? If your father were here, he wouldn't let me suffer like this."
Seeing Qiana cry and mention Peter, Anna felt helpless. She softened her tone and said, "Mom, don't cry. Listen to me. This is complicated and can't be explained in a few words."
But Qiana wouldn't listen. She wiped her tears and said, "I'm going to see Colin right now. He hasn't given us an explanation for the last incident. You can't leave the company, especially not Colin."
Anna, out of patience, got angry and said, "Mom, you just want me to find a rich man, right? Why don't you, while you're still not old and have some looks, find a rich man yourself?"
Hearing this, Qiana slapped Anna across the face, making her step back.
Qiana, chest heaving with anger, face flushed, pointed at Anna and cursed, "You ungrateful child! Is this how a daughter should speak? Do you think I'm doing this for myself? I'm doing it for you. Move aside."
Ignoring Anna's attempts to stop her, Qiana marched straight to Colin's office in her high heels.
Anna, ignoring the pain on her face, chased after Qiana, feeling utterly humiliated.
Standing at Colin's office door, Qiana composed herself and put on a proper smile, as if the once proud "Mrs. Powell" had returned. She knocked on the door.
Colin said, "Come in."
It wasn't Colin's first time meeting Qiana, but he pretended to be surprised by her visit. He said, "May I ask why you're here?"
Qiana got straight to the point, "I'm Anna's mother. I'm here to tell you that Anna's resignation doesn't count. She won't be leaving the company."
Anna arrived just then and tried to pull Qiana away, but Qiana shook her off and continued, "Mr. Rivera, you haven't given Anna an explanation for the last incident. Are you trying to force her out of the company?"
Seeing the handprint on Anna's face, Colin didn't need to ask what had happened. His expression turned cold as he said, "I never said I wanted to force Anna out. In fact, I offered her four times the salary to stay, but she insisted on resigning."
Hearing about the quadruple salary, Qiana glared at Anna, "The resignation doesn't count. She won't be leaving. That's final."
With Qiana's interference, Anna couldn't resign.
Colin, pretending to be calm, smiled and said, "Alright, everything we discussed before still stands. You'll get four times the salary and a house, so you won't have to worry about rent and can focus on your work."
Hearing this, Qiana's impression of Colin improved dramatically, as if he were already her son-in-law.
Thanks to Qiana's meddling, Anna couldn't leave Colin's company.
Watching Anna leave the office dejectedly, Colin's lips curled into a faint smile. It seemed his plan to leak Anna's resignation to Qiana had worked. Qiana had indeed come to stop Anna.
Colin wanted to keep Anna, and he didn't care what means he used as long as he succeeded.
Anna left the office and immediately called Bella, dejectedly telling her that she couldn't leave Colin's company.
This was actually within Bella's expectations. Knowing Colin's personality, she knew he wouldn't let Anna go. She wasn't too concerned and just advised Anna to handle things carefully.
Meanwhile, the Hughes family hadn't found an opportunity to target Bella.
However, in a few days, it would be Colin's mother's birthday party, which might be their chance. With the chaos of the event, they would likely find an opportunity to act.
Gia's birthday party was a grand event in high society. Sterling and Bella had received Colin's invitation a week in advance.
For his mother's birthday, Colin had sent invitations to major business partners and people from political and business circles.
Of course, the Foster family and the Hughes family were also invited.
Gia was unaware of the complicated relationship between the Foster family, the Hughes family, and Bella. She had sent invitations to the elders of both families, so by the time Colin found out, it was too late to stop the invitations from being sent.
