Chapter 57 Sterling's Client

Bella decided to hold off on bringing up the Powell Family drama for now. Knowing Sterling, he hated people who made too many demands and would think she was just being greedy.

Bella figured if she brought up the Powell Family now, there were only two ways it could go.

Sterling would get all up in her face and tell her not to mistake his kindness for weakness.

Or, Sterling would coldly tell her that not only would he not help the Powell Family, but even Owen would have to leave, just to teach her a lesson.

Bella sighed and flopped onto the bed. She thought about calling Anna to see if she was awake, but Anna's phone was off.

Days went by, and Bella still couldn't get ahold of Anna, who seemed to have just disappeared.

Bella called Caleb, and this time, he picked up.

"Anna doesn't want to talk to anyone right now, especially you. She said she doesn't want you begging Sterling," Caleb said over the phone.

After hanging up, Bella realized the Powell Family's situation was getting worse, and she had to do something.

So Bella dialed Sterling's number, ready to talk about the Powell Family with him.

Sterling was chatting with some clients at a hotel when his phone rang. Seeing Bella's name on the caller ID, he excused himself.

"Excuse me, I gotta take this call." Sterling stood up with his phone and headed out of the private room.

"A call Sterling takes during a business meeting must be from someone important," joked a client named Ian Carter.

"It's my wife's call," Sterling admitted with a smile as he left the room.

After Sterling left, another client remarked, "I didn't know Sterling was already married at such a young age."

"Haven't you heard? He married a girl he raised for over ten years," someone said, scrolling through news about Sterling and Bella on their phone.

Another client teased, "Raising your own wife, huh? A wife you raise yourself probably won't argue with you, unlike mine. She argues with me every time I get home."

"You guys don't get it. Wives stop you from smoking, drinking, and fooling around for your own good. My wife always tells me it's for my health," a client said, patting his big belly.

Ian laughed. "You must not have listened to your wife, or you wouldn't be in this shape."

The client shrugged. "I didn't want to listen, so I divorced her."

Laughter filled the private room.

Outside, Sterling was on the phone with Bella.

"What's up?" Sterling asked.

Bella picked up on a softer tone in Sterling's voice, guessing he was around others.

"I need to talk to you about something," Bella said.

Sterling raised an eyebrow, already suspecting what she was after.

"Wait until I get home," Sterling said, about to hang up.

Bella quickly interjected, "Wait, it's urgent. Where are you? I'll come to you."

Sterling paused, then gave her an address.

Bella smiled, realizing it was just a 30-minute drive from her place.

"Okay, wait for me there. I'll be right over." Bella quickly got dressed and had Owen drive her to the station.

Sterling went back to the private room.

The conversation was still buzzing about Sterling's marriage.

"You guys seemed to be having fun while I was gone. Were you talking behind my back?" Sterling joked.

Ian laughed. "We were talking about your marriage. Everyone's curious about the woman who could conquer you."

"Yeah, Sterling, do you have a photo of your wife on your phone? Show us, even a wedding photo would do," another client chimed in.

Sterling's smile faltered a bit. Despite being married for years, he had no photos of Bella on his phone, and they hadn't taken wedding photos.

Sterling thought of the wedding dresses Bella designed.

'Bella must look stunning in a wedding dress,' he sighed inwardly, but his face stayed neutral.

"I can't show you guys my wife's photo," Sterling said, leaning back in his chair with a grin.

Ian pointed at Sterling, laughing. "Look at this stingy guy, not even showing us a photo. Afraid we'll steal your wife?"

"Maybe Sterling's bad at taking photos and doesn't want us to see the bad ones," another client joked, causing more laughter.

Sterling shook his head with a smile. "It's not that. The photos I took are on my camera, not my phone. But you can see her soon; she's coming over."

The clients were intrigued.

"Isn't your wife in the neighboring city? Why is she coming here? Afraid you're messing around? Looks like you're scared of your wife too." Ian laughed.

Sterling lit a cigarette, exhaling smoke slowly.

"Except for the divorced ones, which of you isn't afraid of your wife?" Sterling pointed at the clients, including Ian.

Ian shook his head, laughing. "It's not fear; it's love! Right, guys?"

The clients Sterling pointed at shouted in unison, "That's right!"

Laughter filled the room again. As they were about to leave, there was a knock on the door.

The door opened, and Bella walked in, momentarily stunned by the crowd in the room.
