Chapter 401 Mr. Windsor Is Really Ruthless
However, faking an illness to gain Bella's sympathy seemed a bit underhanded.
"Isn't this a bad idea?" Sterling hesitated. "If she finds out I lied, she'll be even angrier."
Colin just laughed it off. "It's just a way to get close to Bella. Once things cool down between you two, you can explain everything. Besides, if you wanted to use force, you would have done it already. Since you don't want to go that route, follow my plan."
Sterling was silent for a moment, weighing the pros and cons. He knew that while Colin could be unreliable at times, his advice might actually work in this case. After all, Sterling had tried so many ways to get close to Bella without success. Maybe it was time to try Colin's "pity" strategy.
"Alright, I'll give it a shot," Sterling finally nodded, deciding to go with Colin's suggestion.
Sterling hung up the phone, feeling a bit uneasy. He wasn't sure if this strategy would work, or how Bella would react to hearing about his "illness." But he had no other options left and had to try.
Sterling began to think about how to appear "miserable enough" to get Bella to open the door and let him into her life.
His eyes inadvertently fell on the narrow staircase nearby, and a wild idea suddenly flashed through his mind.
Sterling stood up and walked towards the stairs without hesitation, not feeling a trace of fear. He reached the top of the stairs, took a deep breath, and jumped.
To his surprise, he landed safely on the ground, completely unscathed.
In that moment, Sterling realized how foolish he was being. He cursed under his breath and pulled out his phone to call Milo. "Come back."
Milo, though puzzled, quickly turned the car around and headed back.
Sterling stood alone downstairs, feeling a mix of emotions and frustration. He had always been so confident, yet now he was doing something so ridiculous.
Sterling sighed deeply, knowing he had no better plan.
Soon, Milo arrived in a deserted alley. He held a small hammer from his toolbox, looking nervously at Sterling. "Mr. Windsor, are you sure about this?" His voice trembled.
Sterling's tone was impatient. "Can you just do it? If you do it right, I'll give you a hundred thousand dollars." His eyes showed a determination, as if he was performing a self-proving act.
Milo, intimidated by Sterling's demeanor, swallowed hard and closed his eyes. Summoning his courage, he swung the hammer at Sterling's left shoulder. But due to his fear and hesitation, the blow was light, causing only a slight pain.
Seeing Milo's trembling hands and nervous expression, Sterling realized he couldn't rely on him to complete this "task." He grabbed the hammer himself.
Sterling took a deep breath, his eyes flashing with resolve, and struck his own forehead without hesitation.
Warm blood immediately gushed from his forehead, trickling down his face. Milo was stunned, his voice filled with fear and panic. "Mr. Windsor, you're bleeding!"
Sterling seemed unfazed by the pain. He wiped the blood from his forehead and looked at Milo. "Being my driver is too much for you. Find another job tomorrow and collect your pay from the finance department." His words were firm and final, like an unchangeable order.
Milo's face turned pale, his eyes reddening with desperation and anger. "You can't fire me! My whole family depends on this job!" His voice was pleading, but Sterling remained unmoved.
At that moment, Milo picked up the hammer from the ground and, in a fit of desperation, struck Sterling's back several times.
"Mr. Windsor, is this enough?" Milo asked, panting heavily.
Sterling, struggling to breathe after the blows, leaned against a nearby planter, his face pale. He managed to gasp out, "You... can... go now..." His voice was weak and hoarse, clearly in significant pain.
Milo, feeling a mix of guilt and unease, bit his lip and left without another word.
Sterling watched Milo's retreating figure, filled with a sense of helplessness. He felt like today's actions were a farce, wondering if he was the fool or if Milo was.
Sterling leaned against the wall, struggling to steady himself at the elevator. He took a deep breath, trying to calm his pain-ridden breathing.
His forehead, initially just a minor scrape, now felt like his entire upper body was torn apart from Milo's blows, making walking extremely difficult.
Despite this, he didn't give up and made his way to Bella's door. He knocked again, his voice weak from pain but still determined.
Soon, Bella's cautious voice came from inside. "Who is it?" Her tone was tense and wary, clearly surprised and uneasy about the unexpected knock.
Sterling took a deep breath, trying to make his voice sound steadier and stronger. "It's me, Sterling." His words carried an undeniable firmness.
Bella was silent for a moment, seemingly contemplating whether to open the door.
