Chapter 116

"Don't worry. I won't let anything happen to him. You go back and you can also ask the uncles for help. Be obdient!"

Seeing Emma leave, Gianna turned and jumped back into the water.

Not long after, she saw Jonah's figure underwater.

Gianna hurriedly swam over to grab him, finally bringing Jonah to the surface. However, she realized they were far from the shore; and her strength wouldn't be enough to swim back with Jonah.

Seeing Emma's house roof not far away and still above water, Gianna didn't hesitate to swim with Jonah towards it.

Upon reaching the roof, Gianna had Jonah lie down and began pressing on his stomach.

Soon, Jonah coughed up some water and slowly woke up.

Seeing Gianna, a look of disbelief flashed in his eyes, thinking she was a hallucination. He unconsciously reached out to touch her face.

Gianna didn't expect him to do that suddenly and hesitated for a moment, unable to avoid it.

It wasn't until he felt the warm on her face that Jonah realized it wasn't a dream, quickly withdrawing his hand, a hint of panic in his eyes.

"Sorry. I thought it was an illusion just now."

Gianna didn't mind. She nodded, "You rest first."

She got up and looked around. Except for Emma's house roof not being submerged, the area within a few hundred meters was mostly flooded.

If she were alone, she could swim back; but with Jonah, she would likely run out of energy halfway.

Jonah stood up, frowned after seeing the situation around him.

"You shouldn't have come back to save me."

Although he was glad Gianna didn't abandon him, in his mind, Gianna's safety was more important.

Gianna turned to look at him, raising an eyebrow. "If it were me drowning, would you leave me behind?"

"No."

"So I won't leave you behind either."

The water quickly rose to the roof, already submerging the ankles of the two.

The downpour continued unabated; and Jonah knew that staying here meant waiting for death.

He looked at Gianna, "Gianna, can you swim back alone?"

Gianna was about to speak when suddenly the ground beneath them gave way.

Emma's house collapsed suddenly due to years of neglect and being soaked in water.
Giana gripped Jonah, stopping them from being separated by the water flow.

"Gianna, let go of me. I'm your burden now."

He tried to push away Gianna's hand, which was holding onto his clothes, but Gianna suddenly snapped, "Don't move!"

Jonah's hand paused, and then he smiled bitterly, "If it continued, both of us will die."

Gianna furrowed her brow and spoke coldly, "Don’t worry. If I really reach my limit, I will give up on you and save myself."

After all, although Gianna considered Jonah a friend, her own life was still the most important to her.

"I don't want to burden you."

Gianna didn't say anything more and slowly swam toward the shore with Jonah in tow.

When they were just a dozen meters away from the shore, a wave suddenly surged, pushing them back seven to eight meters from the shore.

Gianna pursed her lips and continued swimming towards the shore.

Jonah felt anxious, hating himself for not knowing how to swim, thus becoming a burden to Gianna.

Gianna felt her strength gradually draining, her movements slowing down; and with each wave coming at them, after half an hour of swimming, they were still halfway from the shore.

Jonah obviously noticed this, fell silent for a few seconds, and made a decision in his heart.

He reached out, grabbed Gianna's hand that was clutching his clothes, and slowly pried her fingers open.

Gianna's face changed drastically. "Jonah, what are you doing?!"

Jonah smiled faintly and said slowly, "Gianna, that's enough. Thank you."

He had originally wanted to tell her about his feelings to her, but he didn't want to cause her any trouble.

'Forget it, let it be like this.' He thought.

Just as Jonah was about to pull his clothes out of Gianna's hand, a sudden roar of an airplane sounded overhead.

They looked up and saw a helicopter hovering above them.

The next moment, the cabin door opened; and a person in a life jacket slowly descended on a rescue line.

When Felix, wearing a life jacket, saw the two people in the water about four to five meters away, his face turned dark and terrifying.

Seeing Felix, Gianna's eyes flashed with shock and an indescribable tremor.

'Wasn't he supposed to be in Dawnridge?! Did he know about the heavy rain in Maple Valley and come looking for me on purpose?' She thought.

At the thought of this possibility, her heart raced uncontrollably, as if something was breaking through from within.

Felix stopped not far from the two, handed a rescue line to Gianna, and coldly said, "Tie it on yourself!"

Gianna handed the rescue line to Jonah. "You go up first."

Before Jonah could say anything, Felix couldn't bear it any longer and said, "Gianna!"

Gianna looked up at him. "Jonah can't swim."

Felix's cold gaze fell on him, devoid of any warmth.

"Hurry up!"

Jonah wanted to refuse, but Gianna directly tied the rescue line around him.

Felix grabbed the rescue line on Jonah's body and instructed the people above to start pulling it in.

Five minutes later, Jonah was lifted onto the helicopter.

"Thank you."

Felix's expression was cold. "I'm not here for you. Saving you was just incidental."

Slowly descending to a point about a dozen meters above the water, Felix was about to throw the rescue line to Gianna when he suddenly saw something in the distance, his face instantly changing.

Taking out a dagger from his bag, Felix directly cut the rope and plunged straight into the water.

Gianna was stunned, not understanding why Felix did this, but she could clearly feel the water around her flowing faster.

As she turned her head, she saw a huge wave rushing towards her direction.

The next moment, Felix grabbed her wrist tightly, swiftly swimming in the direction of the current.

However, the speed of the huge wave was too fast; and in an instant, the two of them were engulfed by it.

On the helicopter, Jonah saw this scene and his heart couldn't help but tighten, overwhelmed by endless panic and guilt.

"Gianna!"

He turned around to jump out of the helicopter, but was stopped by Sophia.

"Are you crazy?! Jumping down now is just suicide!"

After Sophia had the pilot close the door, the entire cabin of the helicopter fell into silence.

Sophia quickly made a phone call and said, "Felix has been swept away by a huge wave. Send a rescue team immediately to search for him!"

Jonah sat blankly in his chair, looking like a soulless sculpture.

Soon, the news of Gianna and Felix being swept away by the huge wave reached Sunnydale Meadows.

Upon learning this, Zoey and Otis both had extremely grim expressions.

Otis, full of regret, said, "If only I had stopped Gianna when she was leaving, she wouldn't have had this accident!"

Zoey sighed, "She's our boss. Only she can give us orders. Can we interfere with her decisions?"

Seeing Otis remain silent, Zoey said, "I'm going outside to get some fresh air."
As the rain subsided, Zoey found a quiet corner, took out a spare phone, and made a call.

"Boss, Gianna has been swept away by the waves. It's unlikely she'll survive."
