Chapter 117

The man standing by the window raised an eyebrow as he answered the phone, saying, "I didn't expect Iris to die in this way. It's meaningless. Alright, come back."

"Okay."

Gianna had originally thought that she and Felix would surely die after being swept away by the massive waves, but unexpectedly, they were saved by a tree on the shore.

When Gianna and Felix were washed ashore by the huge wave, there happened to be a tree nearby. Gianna grabbed onto it tightly until the wave passed, finally able to breathe a sigh of relief.

If it wasn't for the heavy rain causing the water to rise to the branches of the tree, they would have been swept further away.

After resting for a while, the two slowly swam towards the shore.

Upon reaching the shore, Felix walked ahead with a cold face, as if Gianna didn't exist.

Gianna followed behind Felix, watching his back, feeling a mix of indescribable emotions.

It was like gratitude, yet also a sense of relief.

If it weren't for Felix, both she and Jonah would likely have lost their lives today.

Gianna quickly walked up to him, earnestly saying, "Mr. Clinton, thank you!"

A simple “thank you” seemed too inadequate, but besides gratitude, Gianna didn't know how else to repay Felix.

Felix looked at her with a cold expression, his eyes brewing with great anger.

"Gianna, are you stupid?! Do you like him so much that you risked your life for Jonah?!"

Gianna was taken aback for a moment, then pursed her lips and said, "I didn't risk my life for him. I didn't expect the wave to be that big at the time."

Felix let out a cold laugh, each word dripping with icy disdain.

"You didn't even consider your own abilities when saving someone! If I hadn't arrived in time this time, you would have been dead!"

Faced with Felix's anger, Gianna remained silent, not saying a word.

Felix gave her a cold look. "Why keep quiet? Have you lost your voice?!"

Gianna looked up at Felix and said, "I indeed didn't expect it to be that dangerous at first. If it happens again, you don't have to worry about me. Whether I live or die will be my own fate."

Felix, filled with anger, sneered, his voice as cold as snow.

"Don't worry, if there's a next time, I'd be a fool if I ever intervened. I won't bother with you again!"

Seeing the anger in Felix's eyes, Gianna pursed her lips and lowered her head, choosing not to speak.

When the huge wave hit just now, Gianna was panicked. She wasn't afraid of death, but she was afraid of Felix to lose his life because of her.

Gianna didn't want to owe Felix; but every time danger arose, he seemed to appear and save her time and time again.

After climbing for a while, they finally saw a house halfway up the slope.

The house was inhabited by an elderly couple. Gianna briefly explained their ordeal and asked if they could stay for the night. After a brief discussion, the elderly couple agreed.

Upon entering the house, it didn't take long for the senior lady to bring out two sets of relatively new clothes for them.

"Miss, these are clothes from me and my husband. If you don't mind, go ahead and change into them first. Otherwise, wearing wet clothes might catch a cold later."

The clothes on the elderly couple were somewhat worn out, but the clothes given to Felix and Gianna were clean and tidy, indicating that they were clothes the two of them rarely wore on ordinary days.

Gianna felt a bit touched and took the clothes, saying, "Thank you, madam."
"No need to thank me. You can go to the bedroom to change first; and then I'll let your husband change later."

Realizing that they misunderstood the relationship between herself and Felix, Gianna was about to explain when Felix spoke up.

"Go change your clothes first."

After the two changed into the clothes, the older lady had already prepared two cups of coffee.

"Have some coffee first. We'll have dinner later."

After dinner, the two elderly people quickly went to bed.

There were only two rooms in their house. Assuming Felix and Gianna were a married couple, naturally they arranged them in one room.

Back in the room, seeing the embarrassment in Gianna's eyes, Felix indifferently said, "You take the bed; I'll sleep on the chair tonight."

Upon hearing this, Gianna immediately felt guilty and said, "No need. The bed is big enough. We can just put a pillow in the middle."

They had slept together before, so Gianna wasn't too concerned about it in the current unusual situation..

Seeing no hint of shyness in Gianna's expression, Felix's eyes turned cold, and he remained silent.

After spreading out the blanket, Gianna called for Felix to go to sleep.

Both of them usually worked late, so it was the first time they went sleeping so early.

After lying down for more than an hour, Gianna still couldn't fall asleep. She couldn't help but ask, "Mr. Clinton, are you asleep?"

"No. What's the matter?"

After hesitating for a few seconds, Gianna whispered, "I'm sorry about today. I wasn't just saying that in anger. I really don't want to owe you more and more. I'm afraid I won't be able to repay you."

There was a moment of silence, then Felix's icy voice sounded in Gianna's ear.

"If you can't repay, then don't. My intention was never to make you feel guilty toward me. Do you truly not understand, or are you pretending not to?"

Felix's words left Gianna feeling unsettled.

Gianna knew that Felix wasn't the type to meddle in others' affairs; and everything he had done for her recently pointed to a possibility.

But that possibility was something Gianna couldn't bring herself to believe.

During their three years of secret marriage, Gianna had been disappointed too many times and didn't dare to hold any hope for Felix.

"Mr. Clinton, do you like me?"

"Otherwise, what reason do you think would make me leave my work and come here?"

The hand at Gianna's side involuntarily tightened; and she felt a sense of unreality.

She admitted that she was somewhat moved and had a momentary desire to be with Felix again.

However, the painful experiences from before quickly made Gianna regain her composure. The unresolved conflicts between her and Felix would only bring more pain if they got back together.

"But you used to like Bella."

"You said 'before.'"

The two fell into silence again; and after a long while, Gianna spoke slowly, "Let me think about it. My heart is in turmoil right now. I'll give you an answer once I figure it out."

"Alright."

At least Gianna's attitude towards Felix was no longer as resistant as before.

Gianna knew very well that she shouldn't be soft-hearted on Felix; but the moment he decisively cut the rope today, the shock she felt inside was indescribable.

Even now, Gianna couldn't calm her heart.

Early in the next morning, Felix's subordinates came to see them off.

Before leaving, Felix asked his subordinates to prepare a million dollars to the elderly couple, but they refused.

Felix didn't insist and simply instructed Sophia to have someone come and renovate their house.

After bidding farewell to the elderly couple, Gianna and Felix boarded the helicopter back to Dawnridge.

Returning to Dawnridge, as Gianna stepped into the Villa, Laura immediately embraced her.

"Gianna, do you know how scared I was? I thought I would never see you again!"

Hearing the slight tremor in Laura's voice, Gianna patted her back reassuringly. "But here I am, back safe and sound."

"Don't push your luck! If Felix hadn't rushed over, who knows what could have happened. I saw the news reporting that you and Felix were swept away by a huge wave; and your phone was unreachable. I cried several times!"

"Alright, I'll be more careful next time. I'll go take a shower first."

After showering, Gianna went straight to MY FASHION.

On her way back, she called Faith and Laura to let them know she was safe, and also found that Zoey and Otis had returned the night before.

As soon as she returned to the office, Faith came to find her.

"I'll take you out for dinner tonight to calm your nerves. Next time you encounter a situation like this, don't try to be heroic. Just stay as far away as possible."

Gianna smiled and nodded, "Got it."

Seeing that she didn't seem to take it to heart, Faith couldn't help but shake her head.

"By the way, Felix almost risked his life to save you this time. The news has spread to the Clinton family. They might come looking for you, so you’d better be prepared."
