Chapter 386
Delilah Clinton was Bella's kid, and she had this quirky vibe. Even though Felix couldn't stand Thomas, he was pretty decent to Delilah.
Felix's face stayed stone-cold as he looked at Bella and said, "Bella, your kid's sick. Why are you coming to me? I'm not a doctor."
Bella's face tightened, and you could see the anger flash in her eyes. She thought, 'Before Constance came back, Felix would drop everything to check on Delilah if she was even a little sick. But now, he's acting all cold.'
"Felix, she's crying to see you. I can't calm her down. Can you go see her?" Bella pleaded.
Felix's eyes turned icy as he faced Bella's pleading look. "We should keep our distance from now on. I don't want Constance to get the wrong idea."
Back then, because he hadn't completely cut ties with Bella, Constance had been let down over and over, which eventually drove them apart. Now that he had a shot to fix things, he wasn't about to let Bella mess it up.
Bella's face looked awful, and tears started to well up. "Felix, I know you love Gianna. I'm not trying to compete with her. I just want you to see Delilah."
Just as she finished, Constance raised an eyebrow and said, "If you really don't want to compete, you should stay away from Felix instead of using your kid's illness as an excuse to get close to him."
Bella bit her lip, hating Constance with every fiber of her being. "Gianna, I really didn't."
Constance cut her off, annoyed, "I don't care if you did or didn't. You know the truth. If you want to mess around with Mr. Clinton, that's your business. But next time, come when I'm not around. Seeing your face makes me sick."
Tears streamed down Bella's face as she looked at Constance in disbelief, like she was the victim here.
Constance couldn't be bothered to argue anymore. She turned and walked away without another word.
The villa went quiet. After a few minutes, Bella cautiously looked at Felix. "Felix, I really don't want to compete with Gianna for you. I'm glad she's back. But Delilah keeps crying to see you and won't take her medicine otherwise. That's why I came. Even if you don't like me, the kid is innocent."
A hint of sarcasm flashed in Felix's eyes. "In the past three years, how many times have you used Delilah as an excuse to get close to me?"
Before, he thought Constance was dead, so he let some of Bella's actions slide. But now, if she still wanted to mess things up between him and Constance, he wasn't going to let it slide!
Bella took a deep breath, wiped her tears, and said, "Felix, if you don't believe me, there's nothing more I can say. I won't bother you again."
With that, Bella turned and left.
As she walked out of the villa, Bella glanced back at the door, a look of pure hatred in her eyes. She thought, 'Felix, you're gonna pay for being so heartless today!'
Half an hour later, Bella arrived at Thundertop Liberty General Hospital. She hadn't lied to Felix about Delilah being sick, but it wasn't like Delilah wouldn't take her medicine unless she saw Felix.
After parking in the basement, Bella had just turned off the engine when she saw two familiar figures walk past her car.
She was stunned for a moment, then looked closely. She thought, 'Mom and Dad!? What are they doing at Thundertop? And why didn't they tell me they were coming here? What are they hiding from me?'
Bella was buzzing with questions. Spotting Julian and Lauren hopping into a white BMW, she quickly buckled up and tailed them.
After trailing them for over an hour, the BMW finally pulled up in front of a villa. Julian got out and helped Lauren out of the car, and they both headed inside.
Bella bit her lip and dialed Lauren's number. "Mom, where are you right now?"
There was a brief pause before Lauren's cautious voice came through, "I'm out shopping. Why?"
Bella's grip on her phone tightened. She said calmly, "I called home earlier, but the maid said you weren't there. I thought you went out."
"No, I'm just out for a bit. Is there something you need?" Lauren replied, her voice tinged with a bit of unease.
Bella replied, "Can't I just call to say I miss you?"
"Belle, I have something to do here. I'll call you tonight."
Before Bella could respond, Lauren quickly hung up.
Bella tossed her phone onto the passenger seat, her eyes darkening. Julian and Lauren were definitely hiding something from her. After mulling it over, she immediately contacted a private detective to keep tabs on Julian and Lauren.
By the time she got back to the hospital, it was already past ten in the morning.
When Delilah saw Bella, a look of fear flashed across her face, and she glanced expectantly behind Bella. Not seeing Felix, her expression turned to disappointment, and she lowered her head.
With Felix not around, Bella didn't bother to put on a show. She walked to the bedside, sat down, and said irritably, "You're so useless, always getting sick. Now even Felix hates you and won't come to see you anymore. Next time you get sick, I'll throw you away!"
Delilah's body trembled, and tears welled up in her eyes, but she didn't dare to cry out, looking pitiful. "Mom, I'm sorry."
Bella snapped, "All you know is to say sorry. Do you know a bad woman took Felix away from us? If you don't find a way to make Felix like you, everything we have will be taken by that bad woman!"
"I don't want the bad woman. I want to see Felix!"
Bella cursed, "All you do is cry. How did I give birth to such a useless person like you!"
Bella was fuming. Hearing Delilah's crying made her even more annoyed. She slapped Delilah, but cleverly, not on the face, but on Delilah's butt.
"Mom, don't hit me. I'll be good from now on. I promise," Delilah sobbed.
Seeing the fear in Delilah's eyes, Bella felt a twisted sense of satisfaction. She pinched Delilah's ear, her face full of cold smiles. "If you don't want me to hit you, you need to make Felix happy. Only then will our lives be better, understand?"
Delilah promised, "I understand. I'll try my best to make Felix happy."
Hearing this, Bella finally showed a satisfied smile. She let go of her and said, "Alright, wipe your tears. I'll take you to Felix's company later. When you see him, you tell him you insisted on crying to see him, so I brought you over. Got it?"
Delilah said, "But I feel sick. Can we wait until I feel better?"
"We're going now! Don't make me angry!"
Seeing Bella's cold face, Delilah was scared. She shakily climbed out of bed, but because she was so dizzy, she fell and hit her head, immediately getting a big bump. "It hurts."
Seeing the bump on her head, Bella first frowned, then couldn't help but smile. "Don't cry! Save your tears for when you see Felix!"
