Chapter 399
Just as Benjamin was puzzled, Thomas had already handed a glass of wine to Felix.
Thomas said, "Mr. Clinton, you wouldn't refuse me this favor, would you?"
Felix's cold gaze fell on the wine glass in Thomas's hand, and he said expressionlessly, "Sorry, I never drink wine."
Thomas's lips curled into a smile as he slowly said, "There's a first time for everything."
Felix didn't speak, but his expression visibly grew colder.
The silence between the two men spread, and the atmosphere became particularly awkward.
Thomas's hand was still holding the wine glass, but his gaze had become very displeased. "Mr. Clinton, you're unwilling to show me some respect?"
Felix's expression was indifferent. "Respect is not given by others; it is earned by oneself."
Benjamin, standing nearby, was already deeply regretting coming over to chat with Thomas.
He smiled. "If you two are going to argue over a glass of wine, then it's my fault. How about this, I'll take three shots to make it up to both of you!"
Saying this, Benjamin went to get three glasses of wine.
Just as he was about to drink, Thomas stopped him. "Mr. Gonzalez, this isn't your fault. Since Mr. Clinton is unwilling to show me some respect, I can't force it. But in the future, Vertex Holdings Group and the Clinton Group might not be able to cooperate."
The threat in his tone was obvious to anyone, and Benjamin awkwardly smiled, feeling that tonight he was bound to offend Felix.
Felix smiled. "If the president of Vertex Holdings Group is someone who likes to force others, then I think there's no need for us to cooperate."
Thomas's gaze turned cold. He thought, 'Clearly, Felix is no match for me, yet he dares to speak so boldly in front of me. I won't let him off!'
Just as the atmosphere between the two grew tense, a sudden scream came from the side, "My necklace is missing!"
The woman's voice was sharp, echoing throughout the hall, instantly attracting everyone's attention.
In the center of the banquet hall, a woman in a pink dress was looking around nervously. "My necklace is the one my husband gave me. It's not valuable, but it has a special meaning to me. If anyone finds it, please return it to me. I will be very grateful."
Recognizing the woman as George View's wife, Cassidy Graham, the crowd began to whisper.
George had died in a car accident a year ago, leaving behind Cassidy and their unborn child.
Fortunately, the View family was kind and treated Cassidy and her child well, allowing her to continue attending various events.
"Someone actually stole Cassidy's necklace. That's outrageous!"
"When George had the car accident, Cassidy almost died with him. It was only because she fainted at the funeral and found out she was pregnant that she barely survived."
"I've heard about that necklace. It was a token of love from George to Cassidy. Now that it's lost, Cassidy must be very anxious!"
Everyone began to help Cassidy look for the necklace.
At this moment, a socialite suddenly pointed at Constance and said, "I saw her sneaking off to the bathroom just now."
As soon as she said this, everyone's eyes instantly focused on Constance.
Contempt, ridicule, disdain, all kinds of emotions were present.
Bella stepped forward, looking sad. "Miss Drake, if you really took Cassidy's necklace, please return it now. The necklace isn't valuable, but it has a special meaning to her."
Constance sneered, "Your words imply that you are certain I stole the necklace, don't they?"
Bella frowned and pursed her lips. "That's not what I meant. I'm just worried for Cassidy."
At this moment, the woman next to Bella spoke up, "Everyone was helping Cassidy look for the necklace, except you, who sneaked off to the bathroom. Who else could it be?"
Constance's expression was cold. "Is it illegal to go to the bathroom?"
"Going to the bathroom isn't illegal, but stealing is."
"Yeah, she might have used the bathroom as an excuse to hide the necklace there."
"I never thought Miss Drake would be such a person."
"I don't think Miss Drake would steal the necklace. The Drake family is so wealthy; why would she steal a necklace?"
"You don't understand. Some people are just psychologically twisted. No matter how rich they are, they still enjoy the thrill of stealing."
Everyone looked at Constance with contempt, as if they had already determined she was the thief.
Constance raised an eyebrow and smiled. "If you think I stole it, then show me the evidence."
As soon as she finished speaking, Fiona Dixon suddenly stepped forward and pointed at Constance's bag. "Constance, I saw you secretly put Cassidy's necklace in your bag. Just search your bag, and we'll know if you stole it!"
Constance knew Fiona. Earlier, when she went to the bathroom, Fiona had bumped into her while she was washing her hands.
Fiona had even apologized at the time. Now that Constance thought about it, that must have been when Fiona secretly put the necklace in her bag.
Seeing Constance remain silent, Bella's lips curled into a cold smile. "Miss Drake, if you want to prove your innocence, please open your bag and let us see. If the necklace isn't there, I will apologize to you publicly. I didn't want to resort to this, but Cassidy's necklace is very meaningful. If it's lost, she will be very sad."
"Yeah, if you didn't steal it, just open your bag and let us see. It won't hurt."
"Constance might be feeling guilty now. Look, her fingers holding the bag are turning white."
"I bet she stole it."
Everyone was talking at once, looking at Constance with disdain. They couldn't believe that the wealthy Drake family had a daughter who liked to steal.
Samuel, standing nearby, couldn't stand it any longer and was about to step forward when a tall figure suddenly walked straight towards Constance.
Felix walked up to Constance, shielding her behind him, and coldly looked at those who had mocked her. "Do you have any evidence that she stole it? If not, why should you search her bag?"
Bella looked at Felix and said indifferently, "Mr. Clinton, if we had evidence, we would have called the police by now, not asked to see Miss Drake's bag."
Felix said, "All you're saying is baseless. That woman said she saw Constance steal Cassidy's necklace, but from the beginning of the night, Constance hasn't been near Cassidy. How could she have stolen it?"
Standing behind him, Constance looked at his back, a flash of shock in her eyes.
Constance thought, 'Has he been watching me all along? Otherwise, how could he know I haven't been near Cassidy?'
Bella's face changed, but she still said, "Just because she wasn't near Cassidy doesn't prove she didn't take the necklace. It could have fallen to the ground, and she picked it up and didn't want to return it!"
Felix sneered, "Didn't Fiona just say she saw Constance steal Cassidy's necklace? Why don't you get your stories straight before causing trouble?"
