Chapter 291
As soon as he finished talking, fireworks blew up outside the window, lighting up the whole night sky over Dawnridge.
This was Felix's big surprise for Gianna, and the fireworks spelled out in the sky: [Gianna, marry me!]
There was even a red heart at the end.
Felix's smile froze when he saw Gianna's blank stare. He finally got why he'd been feeling off all afternoon.
He'd thought Gianna might turn him down, but he didn't expect her to look at him like he was a total stranger.
Suddenly, panic hit him hard.
"Gianna," he reached out to grab her, but she stepped back.
Gianna looked at him calmly and said, "Felix, let's break up."
Felix just stood there, stunned.
It took him a minute to process, "Why?"
Gianna replied, "Because I don't like you anymore. It's over."
She turned and walked away, not even glancing back.
Just as she reached the restaurant door, Felix caught up and grabbed her wrist. "Gianna, what did I do wrong? Why do you suddenly want to break up?"
Gianna met his angry gaze with indifference, shook off his hand, and said coldly, "Why? I also want to ask why you hid the fact that Jonah saved me?"
Felix's eyes turned icy. "You're breaking up with me just because of that?"
Gianna stared at him, "Isn't that reason enough?"
She'd given him too many chances, but he never appreciated them.
Now, she was done and didn't want to keep this going.
"I won't agree," Felix said.
"Whether you agree or not doesn't matter to me," Gianna replied.
She turned to leave, but Felix blocked her way.
"Gianna, I can explain. I was afraid you'd fall for him because he saved you, so I hid it."
Gianna sneered, her eyes cold, "You delayed his surgery for your selfish reasons. Do you know he almost died during the operation yesterday?"
Felix fell silent, a cold aura around him. "This won't happen again!"
Gianna shook her head, "I've heard that too many times. Every time I forgave you, I got more disappointed. I don't want to continue this. Let's end it on good terms."
Felix's eyes turned bloodshot. He grabbed her waist and stared at her, each word forced out, "End on good terms? After everything we've been through, you think I can just let you go?"
Gianna looked at him indifferently, pushed him away, and said coldly, "That's your problem. Don't pester me; it only makes me despise you more!"
Felix shouted, "Even if you despise me, I won't let go!"
Seeing the obsession in his eyes, Gianna felt a flash of impatience.
"This relationship is a mess because of you. I told you I hate lies the most, but you never stopped lying!"
A relationship full of lies could never last.
"No matter what, I won't let go," Felix insisted.
Gianna chuckled mockingly, "Felix, you can't keep me."
Leaving the Sky Garden Restaurant, Gianna took a cab straight back to Elm Bay.
She grabbed a can of beer from the fridge, walked barefoot to the sofa, sat cross-legged, and took a sip, but her mood was still sour.
From around seven in the evening to past eleven, Gianna didn't know how many cans of beer she'd downed, but she didn't feel drunk at all. Instead, the more she drank, the clearer her mind became.
Their past played in her mind like a slow-mo movie, and the pain in her heart spread to her limbs, but she couldn't stop it.
Suddenly, her phone buzzed.
Faith had sent a photo, showing an ad screen at a bus stop in Dawnridge with a single line of text: [Gianna, will you marry me?]
Faith: [Gianna, Felix has rented all the ad screens in Dawnridge to propose to you. Everyone's asking if you said yes!]
Looking at the photo, Gianna's vision blurred.
One tear.
Two tears.
Tears kept falling on the screen. Gianna tried to wipe them away, but the more she wiped, the more they came.
Finally, she tossed her phone aside and let the tears flow.
Gianna didn't show up at MY FASHION for three days and didn't leave the Elm Bay villa for three days.
On the fourth morning, when Gianna opened the villa door, she saw Felix standing there.
He hadn't shaved, his eyes were dark, and he looked like a mess.
Felix said slowly, "Gianna, I've been thinking these past few days. I was wrong about Jonah. I don't want to break up with you."
Gianna ignored him, started her car, and left. Felix didn't stop her, just watched her car disappear from his sight.
Seeing his figure shrink and finally vanish in the rearview mirror, Gianna felt a surge of irritation.
She was sure she really wanted to break up this time, but her feelings for Felix were real and couldn't just vanish overnight.
But no matter how painful it was, she didn't want to keep going like this.
When she arrived at MY FASHION, Faith quickly came over.
Faith asked, "Gianna, why haven't you been to work these past few days? Did you have a fight with Felix?"
Gianna nodded and said indifferently, "Don't mention him in front of me again."
Faith frowned, "What happened? Didn't he propose to you? Did he cheat on you?"
Gianna pressed her lips together, "No, we just aren't right for each other, so we broke up."
Seeing her bad mood, Faith didn't ask further, "Are you free tonight after work? I'll take you out for a drink!"
Gianna refused, "No, I'm going to see Jonah tonight."
Faith said, "I'll go with you. I've been too busy these days to visit him."
"Okay." Gianna replied.
After work, Gianna took Faith's car to the hospital.
Jonah was awake and had heard from Kyle that Gianna knew he had saved her and had seen Felix's proposal. But he didn't know whether Gianna had accepted or not.
Given that Gianna liked Felix so much, she probably had accepted.
When Gianna and Faith walked into the ward, Jonah looked surprised and incredulous.
Faith put the fruit on the bedside table and smiled, "Jonah, we heard you had surgery, so Gianna and I came to see you."
Jonah quickly adjusted his expression and smiled, "Thank you."
From Faith's demeanor, it seemed she didn't know Gianna had performed the surgery.
When he first found out, he was shocked, but he quickly calmed down. In his eyes, she had always been excellent, and there were many things he didn't know about her.
Faith said, "There's no need to thank us. I wanted to visit you earlier, but I am busy working. Knowing Gianna was coming tonight, I decided to join her."
Jonah smiled slightly, "If you're too busy with work, you don't have to come specially."
Gianna and Faith sat by the bed. Gianna asked, "How's your recovery?"
Jonah looked at her naturally and smiled, "Much better. Are you and Felix getting married?"
