Chapter 286
Gianna took a beat and said, "I'm free. I'll swing by and grab you later."
Amara grinned, "No rush. I haven't even had lunch yet. Wanna join?"
Gianna replied, "Sure thing."
After hanging up, Gianna quickly stashed the porridge in the fridge and cleaned up before heading to the hotel.
When she got there, Amara was already chilling in the lobby.
Seeing Gianna, she put down her book and hustled over.
While she was waiting for Gianna, some dude tried to hit her up for her Facebook, but she brushed him off real quick.
Once in the car, Amara couldn't help but say, "Guys these days, always asking for Facebook. It's all about the looks."
Gianna smirked, "Not just looks, they're checking out your chest too."
Amara laughed, "You've gotten bolder over the years."
Gianna asked, "What do you want for lunch?"
Leaning against the window, Amara smiled, "Anything spicy works for me."
Amara was all about spicy food. Back in med school, she'd load up on chili whenever it was her turn to cook.
Gianna suggested, "I had some killer Mexican food the other day. How about that?"
Amara nodded, "Sounds good, lead the way!"
After lunch, they headed straight to the hospital. After checking out Jonah's test results, Amara's face got real serious.
Amara said, "Gianna, with this condition, the surgery's got only a fifty percent success rate, and it's super risky."
Gianna nodded, "I know, but if we don't do it, there's no chance at all. He'll just be waiting to die."
Amara replied, "Alright, I'll give it my all."
Gianna said, "Amara, thank you!"
Amara was swamped, and Gianna wouldn't have bothered her if Jonah's case wasn't so critical.
Amara chuckled, "It's only been a few years, and now you're all formal? Do we really need to say thank you? Besides, saving lives is what we do."
Gianna smiled, "Yeah, we'll nail this surgery together!"
After they left, Jonah's attending doc came to his room.
The doctor said, "Jonah, your surgery's set for three days from now at 10 a.m. No food or water before the operation."
Jonah nodded, "Got it."
He wasn't holding out much hope for the surgery.
Seeing his indifference, the doc sighed, "Get ready for the surgery. The doc's got a fifty percent success rate. It'll be fine."
Jonah's face didn't change, but he said seriously, "Blake, thanks."
Even with a fifty percent success rate, there was still a fifty percent chance of failure, so Jonah wasn't feeling too optimistic.
Seeing him like this, Blake didn't know how to comfort him. He sighed, told him to rest up, and left.
Ten minutes later, Kyle walked in with Jonah's clean clothes. Seeing Jonah staring out the window, he couldn't help but say, "Want me to message Gianna to come see you?"
Jonah glanced at him, "If you're so free, go manage other stars. I can hire a nurse to take care of me."
Kyle fell silent.
The room went quiet again, and Jonah said nothing more, just kept staring out the window.
Kyle sighed, pulled up a chair, and sat beside him quietly.
After dropping Amara off at the hotel, Gianna headed back to the villa.
She figured Felix wasn't home yet, but when she opened the door, there he was, sitting at the dining table, chowing down on the porridge she made for lunch.
Surprised, Gianna kicked off her shoes and plopped down across from him.
Gianna asked, "Why are you back so early?"
Felix replied, "Wrapped up work early. Your porridge is the bomb."
Thinking about how he bailed without a word at noon, Gianna shot him a look, "If it's so good, why didn't you eat it before heading out?"
Felix explained, "I was swamped. My bad. I'll try to manage my schedule better next time so we can eat together."
Gianna glared at him, knowing he was just talking. When she was busy, she couldn't juggle everything, let alone Felix, the workaholic.
Felix asked, "By the way, where'd you go this afternoon?"
Gianna said, "Went with Amara to check Jonah's test results. The surgery's in a few days."
Felix's grip tightened on the spoon, "Does he know you're doing the surgery?"
"No." Gianna looked at him, annoyed, "Are you mad about that too?"
Felix shook his head, "No, just curious."
Gianna said, "I'm beat. Gonna crash in the bedroom."
Felix nodded, "Alright."
After Gianna left, Felix quickly finished the porridge, washed the dishes, and headed to the study to work.
Three days flew by, and it was time for Jonah's surgery.
Gianna and Amara got to the hospital early. At 10 a.m., the surgery kicked off right on time.
Since they knew each other well, Gianna and Amara worked like a well-oiled machine.
Gianna skillfully made an incision on Jonah's scalp, quickly locating the blood clot.
Gianna said, "Alright, let's clear this blood clot."
She grabbed a suction device and carefully removed the clot.
Gianna continued, "Gauze!"
Gianna said, "Sutures and thread!"
Everything was going smoothly, but halfway through the suturing, Jonah's blood pressure started tanking, and the monitor went nuts!
Amara shouted, "Gianna! His blood pressure's dropping fast! It's about to hit the danger zone!"
Gianna replied, "Keep the blood transfusion going! Give him 0.5 milliliters of norepinephrine!"
Gianna quickly searched for the cause of the drop and soon found a bleeding vessel.
"Hemostats!"
Gianna quickly clamped the bleeding vessel, "Get 2000 milliliters of blood from the blood bank, stat!"
The nurse bolted out, and the rescue continued in an orderly fashion.
Amara was super tense. If Gianna hadn't found the cause in time, Jonah might've died right there on the table.
Seeing Gianna so calm, Amara admired her even more. She'd heard from Garrett that the patient was Gianna's friend. She thought Gianna might freak out in an emergency, but her actions and expressions didn't change at all.
Outside the operating room, seeing the nurse run out, Daniel's face went pale.
Daniel asked, "What's going on? Is there a problem with the surgery?"
The nurse had no time to answer him and quickly called the blood bank to send the blood.
Returning to the operating room door, Daniel coldly asked, "What's the situation inside now?"
