Chapter 383

Jasmine covered her face, her eyes full of hurt. "I didn't. I just said my boyfriend is from the Courtenay Family. I never mentioned it was you."

Wentworth shot her a cold look. "If people find out about us, your good times are over. So, keep it low-key, or you'll be blacklisted!"

His icy stare made Jasmine shiver. She knew he wasn't bluffing.

Wentworth was only warm in bed; otherwise, he was distant and cold. Even after three years together, she still couldn't read him.

Jasmine said, "Wentworth, I know I messed up."

Seeing her tear-streaked face, Wentworth grabbed her chin, his eyes as cold as ice.

"I've pulled my investment from that movie Rebecca's company was making," he said. "I'll have my assistant set up another one for you. Behave, or there are plenty of others who can take your place."

Fear flashed in Jasmine's eyes, and she clutched her skirt tightly. She knew she wasn't Wentworth's only lover. If she hadn't been so compliant, he would've ditched her long ago.

She trembled, looking up with quivering lips. "Wentworth, I get it."

The next second, he claimed her lips and tossed her onto the bed.

Jasmine exclaimed, "Wentworth."

He looked down at her, his eyes filled with raw desire. As he slid her strap off, he said, "Do you know why I've kept you around this long?"

"Why?" Jasmine's breath quickened, and her face flushed.

"Because you're the wildest in bed."

Jasmine's expression shifted, but she forced a smile and wrapped her arms around his neck, offering her lips. "As long as you like it."

Wentworth smirked, "I just love how naughty you are!"

Their breaths mingled, and the shadows on the wall danced together, separating and reuniting over and over.

Near the end of the workday, Constance got a call from Felix.

Felix asked, "My grandmother wants to meet you. Are you up for it?"

Constance was taken aback and hesitated before saying, "No need. In three months, we won't have any ties, so there's no point in meeting your family."

There was silence on the other end, and after a long pause, Felix's deep voice came through. "Okay."

Hanging up, Constance tried to ignore the unease in her heart, taking a deep breath to calm down. As soon as work ended, she packed up and left.

Once in the car, she noticed Felix wasn't there. Feeling a bit unsettled, she asked,  "James, does Mr. Clinton have plans tonight?"

James started the car and nodded. "Yes. Mrs. Natalie Clinton snuck out of the hospital, and Mr. Clinton is taking her back to Dawnridge."

Constance pursed her lips. "Is Natalie not well?"

After a moment's hesitation, James said, "Yes, you and Mrs. Clinton used to be very close. Three years ago, when we thought you died in the fire, Mrs. Clinton was so shocked she fell ill and has been hospitalized ever since."

For some reason, even though Constance told herself not to care, her heart ached. She turned to the window, forcing herself not to dwell on it.

No matter what happened in the past, it was over. Since she decided to move on, she couldn't afford to be soft-hearted.

Seeing Constance stay quiet, James sighed and didn't say another word. They drove in silence until they reached the entrance of the Golden Bay Villas.

Just as Constance was about to get out, James turned to her. "Miss Drake, maybe Mrs. Clinton feels like a stranger to you now, and you don't care about her, but back in the day, every time you went to Harmony Garden to see her, you'd bring her favorite pastries, and she'd have your favorite snacks ready."

Constance frowned, a flash of irritation in her eyes. She cut him off, "James, you said it yourself, that was in the past. We can't go back, can we?"

James nodded. "I know. I just think it's sad."

He paused, his voice tinged with empathy. "Mrs. Clinton snuck out of the hospital just to see you. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's six months ago. I don't even know how she made it to Thundertop."

James took a deep breath before continuing, "This afternoon, Mr. Clinton got a call from the police station. When he went to pick her up, she kept saying she wanted to see Gianna."

He glanced at Constance in the rearview mirror. "To you, she might be a stranger, but to her, you're someone she'd travel a thousand miles to see, even if she's forgotten her own name."

Constance was silent for a long time before she pushed open the car door and walked into the villa without looking back.

James watched her go, his eyes full of helplessness and disappointment.

Meanwhile, at the airport.

Natalie grabbed Felix's hand, her face lit up with excitement. "Connor, where's Gianna? Didn't you say you were taking me to see her?"

In the past six months, Natalie's memory had been getting worse, and she often mistook Felix for Connor. Her moments of clarity were becoming fewer and farther between.

Felix said, "She's on her way. Let's get on the plane and go see her."

Natalie paused, then frowned. "You're lying! I've already been on a plane once. If I get on again, I won't see Gianna. I want to find her now!"

With that, she let go of Felix's hand and started looking around, trying to spot her Gianna.

Felix was about to grab her when she suddenly pointed excitedly. "Gianna! I see her!"

"Grandma." Seeing Natalie quickly walking towards the exit, Felix hurriedly chased after her. "Grandma, that's not Gianna. You're mistaken."

Natalie angrily shook off his hand. "Who are you? I don't even know you. You won't let me see Gianna. You're a bad person!"

Felix frowned and decided to come clean. "Grandma, Gianna is busy today. Let me take you back first, and she'll come to see you in a few days."

"You're lying. I've been in the hospital for so long, and Gianna hasn't come to see me once. It must be you keeping her away! You're a bad person! Stay away from me!"

She turned to leave, and Felix tried to grab her, but she resisted.

Afraid she might fall while struggling, Felix had no choice but to let her go and silently followed behind her.

As they reached the airport entrance, she suddenly stopped.

Worried she might be feeling unwell, Felix quickly walked up to her and saw that her eyes were red.

Felix asked, "Grandma, what's wrong?"

Natalie looked at him, her voice trembling. "Felix, does Gianna not want to see me?"

Felix lowered his eyes, his voice somber. "No, she's just been very busy with work and is on a business trip, so she can't see you right now."

Natalie's eyes welled up with tears. "Don't lie to me. If she wanted to see me, why hasn't she even called me on video?"
