Chapter 270

Jonah shot him a death glare, teeth clenched. "You ain't scared I'll spill the beans to Gianna?"

Felix's eyes narrowed, and he snapped back, "Even if you do, she ain't gonna fall for you, and you can't handle the fallout!"

With that, Felix let him go and stormed off.

Jonah watched him until he was out of sight.

Back in his car, Felix's face was like ice, and he sat there for a long time before driving off.

When Jonah mentioned telling Gianna, a wave of panic hit Felix. He felt like he was on the verge of losing her.

He'd been through hell and back with Gianna, and there was no way he was losing her again.

Suddenly, he remembered the medical stuff Gianna had been looking up. Could it be about Jonah?

He called up James and said coldly, "Find out why Jonah was in the hospital and if he met Gianna while I was away!"

James was quick. Felix had just gotten back to Elm Bay when his email pinged.

After reading it, Felix's face turned dark as night.

His gut was right. Gianna was looking up that medical info for Jonah!

If Gianna found out Jonah was hospitalized 'cause he saved her, she'd never forgive herself.

Felix's eyes went cold, and he called James again.

"Get me the best brain surgeons, from here or anywhere. I don't care what it costs! ASAP!" Felix ordered.

James, knowing Jonah had saved Gianna from a fire, quickly replied, "On it!"

After hanging up, Felix got out of the car and walked into the house. He saw Gianna on the couch, watching a movie.

She heard the door but didn't turn around. "Where'd you go?" she asked.

Felix paused, taking off his shoes. "Had some work stuff," he mumbled.

Gianna just pressed her lips together, saying nothing.

Felix sat next to her, about to speak, when her phone lit up on the table. It showed a pic of him with Bella at the hospital, with a headline: [The president of the Clinton Group was spotted at the scene of Bella Redstone's car accident, sparking rumors of a rekindled romance!]

The room went dead silent, and Felix's face turned grim.

"Gianna, let me explain," Felix started.

Gianna looked at him, her face blank. "Explain what? That you went to see Bella? Or that you lied to me?"

Her cold stare made Felix's chest ache. After a moment, he said softly, "I messed up lying to you. I'm sorry. I went to see Bella to clear things up. I won't take her calls or see her again."

Gianna's face didn't change, her voice calm. "Felix, do you even believe yourself?"

"I'm telling the truth," Felix insisted.

Gianna gave a bitter smile. "If it's true, why'd you lie?"

"I was scared you'd be mad," Felix admitted.

"Scared I'd be mad? What about the past six months? Every time you took Bella's calls in front of me, didn't you think I'd care? Every time you went to the hospital to see her, didn't you think I'd be upset? You knew, but you still went. Because to you, paying back the Clinton family's debt to Bella was more important than my feelings, right?"

Felix's face darkened as Gianna grilled him.

He grabbed her shoulders, staring her down. "No, it wasn't just about the debt. I wanted to see if you'd get jealous. If you'd told me you cared, I'd have cut Bella off right away."

Gianna shook him off, her eyes turning icy.

"Cutting her off is something you should've done on your own. Why wait for me to say it?" she snapped.

Felix's voice dropped. "Because I wasn't sure if you still had feelings for me."

Gianna's anger flared, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "If I didn't care you, why I went to Pheladelfia to save you. If I didn't care you, why I stood by you when Ivy slandered you. If I didn't care you, why I silently endured your contact with Bella for six months."

"Gianna, I'm sorry!" Felix pleaded.

Gianna stood up, looking down at him, and said slowly, "If our relationship needs tests like this, we need to seriously consider if we should continue."

Felix panicked, reaching for her hand, but she dodged him.

"The company's busy. I'll stay at the office," she said, heading upstairs to pack.

Seeing her with her suitcase, Felix jumped up and blocked her path.

"Gianna, let's talk. I don't want a cold war."

Gianna's face was stone-cold. "I'm not having a cold war. I just need to cool off."

"You don't have to go to the office to cool off. You can do it here."

"Move," Gianna demanded.

Felix stood his ground. After a moment, Gianna put down her suitcase, impatience flashing in her eyes.

"What do you want?" she asked.

Felix suddenly grabbed her hand.

Gianna frowned, trying to pull away but eventually giving up.

"Gianna, I know I've let you down these past six months, but I'm scared of losing you. Even with you right here, I feel like you're miles away, afraid you'll realize you don't love me and want to break up."

Gianna was silent for a moment, then looked at him. "I've never assumed we'd spend our lives together."

Felix's face fell. "What do you mean?"

"Right now, we like each other, so we're together. If things heat up, maybe we'll remarry. But if one day we don't feel it anymore, I'll leave. I'm not banking on forever."

She wasn't going to set herself up for heartbreak again.

"So you're ready to leave me anytime, which is why you don't care about me meeting Bella?" Felix asked.

Gianna sighed, exasperated. "You got it wrong. It's not that I don't care. I just won't fight about it like before. After everything we've been through, you should know what's right and what's not."

Felix was quiet for a long time, then let go of her hand. "I don't know why, but it feels like we're drifting apart."

Felix felt his heart breaking even more.
