Chapter 417

Bella shuddered violently, forcing her aching body to get up and limp upstairs.

As she reached the corner of the upstairs hallway, she saw the small figure standing there.

"Delilah, what are you doing here?" Bella asked.

Thinking that she might have seen her being beaten by Thomas, Bella's face turned extremely grim.

"Delilah, you didn't see anything, right?"

Delilah, holding a doll in her hands, looked at her with an unchanged expression.

"Mom, I don't like this dad. I want Uncle Felix to be my dad!"

Even though Thomas treated her well, seeing Thomas hit Bella made her very scared.

She was very afraid of Thomas, always feeling that one day he would hit her just like he hit Bella.

Felix never even scolded her before, and he never hit anyone.

Bella was stunned for a moment, then frowned and said, "Delilah, I don't want to hear you say that again. We will live with your dad from now on."

Delilah couldn't help but cry when she heard this. "No, I don't like this dad. This dad is scary. I want Uncle Felix!"

Seeing her voice getting louder, Bella quickly covered her mouth and carried her into her room.

After closing the door, Bella finally relaxed a bit, her gaze at Delilah turning icy cold. "Delilah, I'm warning you, don't ever mention Felix again. If your dad hits you, I won't be able to save you!"

She wasn't really worried about Delilah, as she often took her anger out on her when she was upset.

She just didn't want Thomas to blame her for this, as she had already chosen Thomas and had nothing to do with Felix anymore.

"I don't care! I want Uncle Felix! I don't want to be with you! I hate you!"

As soon as she finished speaking, Bella slapped her and said angrily, "If you dare to talk nonsense again, I won't let you off."

Delilah cried bitterly but still sobbed. "I hate you. I only like Uncle Felix."

Bella raised her hand and threatened in a low voice, "If you dare to cry again, I'll lock you in the dark attic like before, and the big rats will come and bite you."

Delilah was so scared that she didn't dare to cry anymore, though two tears still lingered in her eyes.

She used to like her mom a lot, but later her mom became increasingly mean, often hitting her where no one could see.

At that time, Delilah thought she would never like her mom again.

But sometimes her mom was so gentle that she thought she would be happy forever.

"Mom, don't lock me in the attic. I'll be good."

Bella's anger from being beaten by Thomas dissipated a lot, and a cold smile slowly appeared on her lips. She thought, 'Thomas, you dare to hit me, I'll hit your daughter!'

"Alright, go back to your room and sleep. If your dad sees you awake, he'll be unhappy and might hit Mom again."

Delilah wiped her tears with her small hand and left Bella's room.

Bella found the first aid kit to treat her wounds, almost fainting from the pain several times. Her hatred for Felix and Constance grew stronger. If it weren't for Constance, she wouldn't have been beaten so badly tonight.

They were twins, so why did she have to live in fear while Constance not only survived the fire three years ago but also became the adopted daughter of the Drake family!

The more she thought about the unfairness, the more Bella's hatred and jealousy grew! She thought, 'Constance! I will never let you live in peace!'

The next morning, as soon as Constance arrived at the company, Grant called her into the office.

"Constance, we've found out who was behind the reporters surrounding you at the company entrance and the rumors spreading around," Grant said.

Constance was silent for a few seconds, then said in a low voice, "If I'm not mistaken, it was Jennifer, right?"

Grant's eyes flashed with surprise, and he nodded. "Yes, regarding Jennifer's punishment, I've discussed it with the vice president and decided to fire her. If you have any objections, you can raise them now."

Thinking about Jennifer's feelings for Grant, having her leave the company should be the biggest punishment for her.

Constance shook her head. "No, I'm already very happy that the company is firing her."

"Alright, if there's nothing else, you can go back to work."

"Okay."

Soon, Jennifer was also called into the office by Grant.

Upon hearing that she was being fired, Jennifer was visibly in disbelief, followed by anger. "Grant, what gives you and the vice president the right to fire me? I'm going to see the general manager. I want to see if the general manager will agree to fire me!"

Seeing her unreasonable behavior, Grant felt only annoyance.

She was clearly in the wrong, yet she never reflected on herself.

"Jennifer, can you stop making a scene? The company isn't your home where you can do whatever you want. Even if you go to the general manager, the result will still be your dismissal."

"I just spoke a few truths, and you can't tolerate me? Didn't Constance covet the Drake family's wealth? She used to be a Redstone, but after becoming the Drake family's adopted daughter, she even changed her name. You don't fire someone with such poor morals but fire me for telling the truth?"

Grant's expression turned cold. "You spread those rumors not to tell the truth but for your selfish reasons, and you know it!"

Jennifer sneered, "Yes, I did it for my selfish reasons. But do you know? I lost my innocence because of Constance. When I was humiliated by that man, it was even broadcasted online. Do you know how I've been living these days? Shouldn't I seek revenge?"

"If you hadn't tried to scheme against Constance in the first place, you wouldn't have suffered the consequences. Even now, you don't reflect on yourself and only blame others. Jennifer, you're really too much."

Jennifer unconsciously took two steps back, looking at Grant with eyes full of despair and pain. "Grant, don't forget, if it weren't for my help back then, you would still be working on some construction site!"

Grant calmly met her malicious gaze and said word by word, "Yes, you did help me, and I'm grateful. I'm willing to repay you in other ways, but to endorse your malicious actions and stand by your side, I'm sorry, I can't do that!"

"It's not that you can't; it's just because I'm not the person in your heart, right?"

Grant's expression froze for a moment, then he took a deep breath and said, "I don't want to discuss this with you. Pack your things and complete your resignation before the end of the day."

"Don't worry, I won't refuse to leave. But I tell you, one day, I'll make you regret everything you've done to me today!"
