Chapter 390
Constance pursed her lips and said, "Really?"
Holly nodded. "Yeah, the photos went up last night. The Clinton Group hasn't said a word about it. People online are starting to think it's legit, and Felix and Bella are planning to go public."
Constance sighed, "Got it. You can go now."
Noticing Constance looked a bit off, Holly whispered, "You okay? You don't look so good."
Constance waved it off. "I'm fine, just didn't sleep well last night."
Holly nodded. "Alright, I'll get back to work. Let me know if you need anything."
"Sure."
After Holly left, Constance tried to focus on a file, but she was too worked up to concentrate.
Even though she and Felix were set to divorce in three months, what Felix and Bella were doing now really ticked her off. She thought, 'If they're in such a rush, why did he agree to the three-month deal with me?'
Ten minutes later, Constance tossed the file aside and called Felix. When the call connected, James's deep voice answered, "Miss Drake, what can I do for you?"
Constance frowned. "Put Felix on."
James replied, "Mr. Clinton is busy and can't take your call. You can tell me if you need anything."
Constance sneered, "Busy with what? Hanging out with Bella and their daughter?"
James sounded confused. "What do you mean?"
Constance didn't bother to explain and hung up.
In the hospital corridor, James looked puzzled.
Before Felix fell into a coma last night, he had told James not to mention his injury to Constance. Now, Constance's words made James feel something was off. He was still trying to figure it out when his phone rang.
"James, Thomas has escaped!"
James's expression turned cold. "He's been locked up by Mr. Clinton for years and just escaped recently. He couldn't have built his own forces so quickly. Someone must be helping him. Look into it!"
"Got it!"
After hanging up, James headed to the doctor's office.
The doctor saw him and said, "James, Mr. Clinton's injuries are severe. He won't wake up for at least three days."
"Understood," James replied.
When he got back to the hospital room, he saw Bella standing by the window with Delilah, looking tearful. A flash of disgust crossed his face.
He walked up quickly and said coldly, "Miss Redstone, you need to leave now!"
Bella's eyes were red, and her voice was shaky. "James, Felix got hurt because of me. I want to stay and take care of him."
James sneered, "No need. I doubt Mr. Clinton would want to see you when he wakes up."
If Bella hadn't pushed Delilah to run away last night, Felix wouldn't have gone out to find her and wouldn't have been ambushed by Thomas and seriously injured.
Bella looked at him, her eyes full of determination. "James, I know you hate me, but I never thought Thomas would still be alive and do something so crazy."
When Thomas had left last night, he had said something to her that now sent chills down her spine. She had been trembling with fear then, and recalling his words now, she felt a cold dread wash over her.
He had said, "Bella, I will come back, and when I do, I will take my child away!"
If he knew what she had done to Delilah, he would never let her go!
James warned, breaking into Bella's thoughts, "Miss Redstone, if you don't leave, I'll have hospital security escort you out. And on what grounds are you staying by Mr. Clinton's side? Don't forget, he's your brother-in-law!"
Bella bit her lip. "James, you don't need to humiliate me like that. I love Felix, always have, always will. I'm staying by his side."
Before James could respond, a mocking voice cut in from behind, "If you want to be Mrs. Clinton so badly, why don't I talk to Felix when he wakes up and have him marry you?"
James turned around, shocked to see Constance. "Miss Drake, what are you doing here?"
Constance cut him off, "Why didn't you tell me Felix was hurt?" If Timothy hadn't called her, she might still be in the dark.
James replied, "Mr. Clinton didn't want you to worry."
Constance raised an eyebrow, her eyes cold. "Worry? Hardly. I just came to confirm something."
James was puzzled. "What is it?"
Constance asked, "I heard he got hurt protecting Bella and her daughter. Is that true?"
James frowned. "Who's spreading such rumors?"
Constance smirked, "Is it a rumor? I saw the surveillance video."
The video showed Delilah holding Bella and Felix's hands, all three looking like a happy family. Then, a group of people jumped out of the bushes, attacking Bella. Felix shielded her and got stabbed multiple times. If James hadn't shown up with backup, Felix might not have made it.
James asked, "What surveillance video?"
Constance mocked, "James, don't you go online? Delilah is Mr. Clinton's biological daughter. The news about Mr. Clinton protecting his woman and daughter has been trending for hours."
Bella lowered her eyes, hiding her cold calculation. She had paid someone to make that news trend and posted the surveillance video online. Her goal was to solidify the idea that Delilah was Felix's daughter while Felix was in a coma.
By the time Felix woke up, even if he clarified online, few people would believe it.
James's face darkened, and he quickly opened Facebook. Seeing the trending news about Felix and Bella, he was furious and immediately called the company's PR manager. "What are you guys doing? How could you let this stay trending for so long? Get it clarified now!"
"We're working on it, but someone is pushing this from behind!"
James ordered, "Get the trending news removed ASAP. If you don't handle this before Mr. Clinton wakes up, you're fired."
After hanging up, James was still fuming. He finally understood what Constance meant in her earlier call.
James explained, "Miss Drake, let me explain. Last night, Delilah, Mr. Clinton's niece went missing. The nanny called him, and he went to find her. He met Bella on the way, and after they found Delilah, he was taking them back."
Constance's eyes showed no interest, and her expression didn't change. "James, I didn't come here for explanations. Just tell Mr. Clinton this: if he's so eager to be with Bella, I don't mind making room for them sooner."
James frowned, his gaze turning cold. "Miss Drake, Mr. Clinton only has you in his heart. He was miserable when you weren't around."
Constance said, "Whether he was miserable or not has nothing to do with me. I have other things to do, so I'm leaving now."
With that, Constance turned and left.
Watching her go, a trace of dissatisfaction flashed in James's eyes. He thought, 'Constance is too heartless now. She didn't even check on Felix's condition.'
