Chapter 344
Constance just sat there, not saying a word.
When Eliza laid it out like that, Constance had to admit, maybe she did push it a bit too far.
Seeing Constance's silence, Eliza didn't hold back, "This time, you're going, no ifs, ands, or buts. I've set you up with the youngest son of the Chambers family. He just got back from studying abroad last month and even started his own company while he was there. He's a big deal in Thundertop."
Constance raised an eyebrow, the Chambers family, huh?
She asked, "Isn't there a daughter named Jennifer in the Chambers family?"
"Yeah, I was planning to introduce you to her at the next party. Do you know her?"
Constance replied, "Saw her last night, but we don't really know each other."
Constance had been thinking about how to mess with Jennifer, and now the perfect chance had dropped into her lap.
She smiled slightly, a plan forming in her head.
Eliza added, "I remember she's got a good personality. I was thinking of introducing her to Brandon."
Constance's face twisted awkwardly, and she quickly said, "Mom, please don't. Brandon's not into her type."
Eliza shot her a look and grumbled, "He's thirty-three already. Does it even matter what he likes? If he had a type, why hasn't he brought anyone home all these years?"
Constance shrugged, "Maybe he just hasn't met the right one yet."
"By the time he meets the right one, your father and I might be six feet under."
Constance quickly grabbed her mom's arm, laughing, "Mom, you and Dad are still young! You'll be around for another thirty, fifty years and definitely see Brandon find someone he likes!"
Eliza shook her head, a bit helpless, "Alright, enough stalling. Go change and put on some makeup for the date. Do it right this time. If you mess around again, I won't forgive you!"
Constance replied, "Okay, Mom. Don't worry. I'll get ready and make sure the guy sees my best and falls head over heels!"
Eliza teased, "Just talk properly, and you'll be fine."
"Got it, I'm heading upstairs."
Watching Constance walk away, Eliza sighed.
She thought, 'Five sons and one daughter, and none of them give me a break! No, I can't get mad; it'll give me wrinkles.'
Eliza quickly pulled out her compact mirror and sighed in relief after checking her reflection.
Constance went back to her room and immediately called her best friend, Rebecca Wood.
She asked, "You free this afternoon? Come with me on a date!"
Rebecca replied, "I'm always free for you, but haven't you always hated these family-arranged dates? Why so serious this time?"
Constance grinned. "I'll fill you in this afternoon. Gotta change and put on some makeup first."
At 2 PM, Constance swung by the Wood Group to pick up Rebecca.
As soon as Rebecca got in the car, she exaggeratedly said, "Whoa, you're really going all out. Is this date with your long-time crush or something?"
Constance started the car and filled Rebecca in on what happened last night.
After hearing the story, Rebecca was fuming, ready to hunt Jennifer down and give her a piece of her mind.
Rebecca fumed, "That witch, how dare she pull that crap on you. She's asking for trouble!"
Constance replied, "Not just asking for trouble, she probably thinks she's untouchable. Today, I'm going on a date with her brother. I'm gonna win him over and make her life hell!"
"Alright, I'm with you!"
The two rolled up to the date spot, looking like they were ready for a showdown.
Sitting across from Eric Chambers, Constance smiled and said, "Hey, I was a bit nervous coming alone, so I brought my best friend. Hope you don't mind."
The second Constance walked in, Eric's eyes were glued to her.
He'd seen plenty of pretty faces, but Constance? She was on a whole different level, making his heart skip a beat.
Eric grinned, "No worries. Beautiful women always roll together. Miss Drake, you and your friend are both stunning, hard to look away from."
Constance fiddled with her earring, her smile widening.
She asked, "So, which one of us is harder to look away from?"
Tough question.
Eric paused, then smirked, "Miss Drake, you've got this subtle beauty, like a budding flower, calm and elegant. Miss Wood is like a fiery rose, bold and striking, a beauty with an edge."
Constance didn't push it further and just raised an eyebrow. "I heard you started a company while studying abroad. Business folks sure know how to talk."
Eric chuckled. "Just got lucky."
Constance was warming up to Eric. Compared to Jennifer's nastiness, Eric seemed pretty chill.
Eric was smooth with his words, making the meal surprisingly enjoyable.
As they left, they swapped Facebook contacts and agreed to hang out again.
After saying goodbye to Eric and hopping in the car, Rebecca whispered, "Constance, Eric's no simple guy."
Building a Fortune 500 company in no time, even with the Chambers family's help, meant he was no joke.
Constance nodded. "Yeah, I know."
Eric was deep and calculating. He'd make a good friend, but as a lover? She'd never know what was real with him.
Rebecca warned, "If you want to mess with Jennifer, find another way. Using Eric might backfire."
After a moment of silence, Constance slowly said, "Got it. I'll think it over."
Back home, Eliza was watching a show. Seeing Constance, she immediately put down her iPad and asked, "How was the date today?"
"Just okay. Not really into him."
Eliza looked surprised. "Really? Brenda just called. She said Eric was very pleased with you and wants to get to know you better."
Constance frowned. "I don't think we're a good match. He's too calculating. Being with someone like that would be exhausting."
Seeing she genuinely didn't like him, Eliza said, "Alright, I'll find a way to turn Brenda down."
"Okay."
"If you don't like Eric, I've got plenty of other options. Pick one, and we'll continue tomorrow." Seeing her reluctance, Eliza added, "Don't forget what you promised me before you came back."
Reluctantly, Constance sat next to Eliza and started scrolling through photos on her phone, casually pointing to one that looked decent.
Eliza laughed. "As expected of my daughter, you picked the most handsome one. This is Jonah, the heir of the Getty family. He used to be a star and even won Best Actor!"
Constance nodded half-heartedly. "Alright, him then. He's the most pleasing to my eye."
"Great, I'll set it up. You'll meet him tomorrow!"
Constance sighed, "Can't you let me rest? I just got back from abroad, and I start work in a few days! Mom, look, I've lost weight from exhaustion. Don't you feel sorry for me?"
"I originally planned for you to meet six people a day. Now you're only meeting one a day, so be happy."
Constance was speechless. She shouldn't have said anything.
At the Getty Mansion, in the study.
Daniel said, "Jonah, I've arranged for you to meet the daughter of the Drake family. You need to seize this opportunity."
In recent years, under Jonah's management, the Getty family had become the top of the eight major families, and Jonah had gone from an actor to a business legend.
Jonah was reading a document and impatiently said, "I'm not planning to date."
Daniel snapped, "You're not planning to date? Are you still hung up on Gianna? Wake up. She's been dead for three years!"
